If you were there and saw, you'd know what I'm talking about. All I'm saying.

Normally I dismiss stories like this as exaggeration, but now I know who your talking about, then I'm fully willing to believe you. I'm not from Brisbane but I've heard A LOT of shady stuff about that guy.
I think your options now are to either spread your story on all the Aussie mtg forums, or do nothing (his reputation is already pretty bad).
There's no such thing as a single format warping card in limited, because you can't control how often they appear. I mean, in constructed something like JTMS invalidated tons of strategies and powerful creatures, but in limited are you really going to completely change the way you build your deck because of the existence of a certain common/uncommon? Sure maybe you'd change 1 or 2 cards, but even then, that's still not format warping.
I think the closest thing we'll ever get to a "format warper" is centaur token in triple rtr.
No. Vexing Devil has one single triggered ability. Your opponent makes the choice while the ability is resolving. Players may only cast spells when they have priority, and no one gets priority during an ability resolving.
So you can only cast it BEFORE your opponent makes his choice. Once he announces his taking 4 damage, it'll be too late
Wow, I never thought of that. During the states I was able to ult Jace 4.0 a couple of times and looked at my opponent library but never in my life I thought about spreading it out and figure out what cards he was still holding. Very interesting indeed!
I would recommend against trying to do it. They were lenient with him because it was top 4 of a pro tour, but if you watch the video, there was a crowd judges standing around him. Even if you did it at the same pace at him, I'm fairly certain you'd get a warning if you tried to do it at a ptq.
In limited, NO. For vanilla creatures between 2-4 mana, you want them to have at least power = cost (and preferabbly toughness as well). However, most of the time you'd still play them as filler. You're never excited about playing them, and they're usually the first cards you cut if your 4-drop slot is too crowded.
Of course, it varies between formats. In DKA-INN draft, I don't mind playing russet wolves since there as so many aggressive 2 power creatures (although there are also a lot of pump spells..). In ROE draft, lazac lizard was unplayable since it got outclassed so quickly. In m14, canyon minotaur is very mediocre.
Also, the playability of vanilla bears depends on the format. In ZEN draft every bear was not only playable, it was even a high pick. In m14, they are borderline unplayable due to the number of x/3's. In INN, they were good. In rtr, they were pretty bad. You can't make blanket statements about them.
Yeh and Brindle Boar sucks too. It is amazing how bad creatures have gotton isnt it
Thats what we do isn't it? If every card of a selected type isn't snapcaster mage power level then we cry about it?
lol that is the most ridiculous argument i've ever seen. i mean, cherry picking by randomly naming unplayable cards as an example?
The best counterspells in standard are all strictly worse than previous counters from 10 years ago. The playable creatures in standard make past creatures look like a joke. This is not an opinion, I wasn't even whining about it in my previous post, I was merely stating a fact

It would be like Flayer of the Hatebound. Directly referring to another keyword is a no-no.

Yeah, that's the whole idea. Allowing cards to interact with them would ruin their uniqueness

In all seriousness, they'll climb even higher in a few months when modern ptq season starts
I guess it COULD see play standard.. It's pretty bad though
