Pretty sure this thread is dead, however I felt intent on sharing.

Friday, and Saturday, 5 rounds each day, 4-0-1 each day.

My matches consisted of RUG/Bant Flash nearly all night friday, on Saturday it was Jund, Grixis, Reanimator, Jund, BantFlash.

I'll be making a few slight adjustments as needed. The mana base is flawless, imho. I think I was off a color a turn longer than I would have liked, and I was flooded once. There are some wacky card choices so I will throw a few reasons out there. Any other questions just ask.

Yes AEtherling is as good as you want it to be. It's the best 7 cost creature I've ever played.
O-rings are ran because of Renounce the guilds in the board. I was trying to avoid losing to Geist, or Aristocrat. Was generally a good card all night, although, I might reduce to one main.
Only one snap, as I had a hard time wanting to run more. It's not really the permission control I'm used to, but it keeps a decently clean board state most of the time.
The sparkmage was for what I thought would be tokens in the massive amount of rites decks I would be playing, but seems I only matched vs one, however, it makes for some decent combat tricks with resto / pillars.
I really don't think advent has a home in this deck, however, I mean, it always just seemed like I wanted something else. Seems too good not to want to run it.
Deathrites > Purify the grave. It just has multiple purposes and functions well against control.
Tamiyo was for rites as well -.- which I didn't see hardly, however, I did resolve one on turn 5, after he turn 4'ed an angel. Worked very well. x)

I'm not quite sure if I will be continuing playing magic seeing as how I am semi retired, but if I do, I will update here.

Technically this list isn't Grixis. Don't you think it's stretching it a bit far to try to support the flashback on Ancient Grudge? What are you that scared of to further butcher your mana base?

    Quote from twistednic
"random RG land/ Shimmering Grotto for Ancient Grudge in the board" thing and so far the mana hasn't been an issue yet. I am yet to play a match where I side in Ancient Grudge, but I figured if the manabase didn't hurt then what's the problem.

And to think that I received flak for first suggesting the idea in this thread.... Lol...

I find it cute. Regardless, I still pilot a permission build of grixis, and Im still in love with it. Ill post standings from Tnm and Fnm this week along with a new decklist and some testing results against U/b control and Wolfrun. Thanks as always..

I'm working with a list similar to tapped.out's on the previous page (which is 59 cards if I counted it correctly..?). I like Devil's Play over Red Sun for the fact that it can be dumped early on to Alchemy and flashbacked later. I'm also going to run 2 blood halls. I would really love to fit Olivia in, but I just can't figure out what to cut. >_<

Patrick Chapin is playing a strange Grixis Control list at Worlds. Seems to be doing well with it, though I don't like some of his card choices at all.
Here is a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9R8FLpMTyIc&feature=feedu

As he says, his list seems more of B/R midrange deck that splashes blue for Leak/Snapcaster/Alchemy.

It shouldnt be... I might have forgot a card or miscounted.... Yeah I play 3 color permission compared to chapins b/r midrange.

Titans for almost all the answers? Haha.

Primeval titan is the best creature.

IIIIIIIIIII..... disagree.... Snapcaster mage offers way more advantage than primeval titan. It would never resolve with all the counte magic in that blue deck.

Yes Im going to shrug it off as bad drawing... hitting the slagstorms late is what really did me in in that bant pod match up... ( Which I should of won.... like I did 18 of 20 times we tested..) Theres another tournament on tuesday. Ill report as usual. I find myself digging through sets to find unique cards to play... Its hard to find something that isnt just god awful. (Dissipation Field, Sup valakut?)

I originally played a burning vengeance list where desperate ravings was house, however its not the filter or the 1 net card that Im looking for... desperate ravings has that opportunity to remove the answers, a counter heavy deck like mine cant risk chances like that... loosing a slagstorm or a black sun zenith... is pretty crucial.. and I dont know if I feel like digging two deep for the solution then loosing is is key... however in the Burning vengeance deck... I was okay with it... because my win conditions were out of the grave regardless.

@ Twisted, yes I ran the exact same list Ill repost it for looks over.

I think this is hilarious... The level one judge we have at the shop keeps making cracks about how Sorin's vengeance is going to be a 8 dollar card because of good pilots like us playing them. Ahaha.

    Fnm Report.

    4 Rounds. 23ish players.

Sick and tired I make my way to the comic shop. I was very very tempted to stay home however I said I would tournament report and I try to make good on my word.

    Round one. Monoblack Infect.
    Lost die roll.
Game one: Hand played out beautifully. Kept a counter heavy hand missing a black source, but hitting a geistflame doing double time on a inkmoth and a plaguestinger. He scoops when I play the first SV, revealing the snapcaster while Im at 2 poison.

Sideboarding -Some giestflames/slagstorms/negates : + disperse, dissipate Ancient grudges.

Game 2 : I dont even really want to call this a game. He never saw 3 land. I felt bad.

    (2-0-0)(1-0-0)

Round 2. Mono black infect... (Awkward.)
    Lost die roll.

Game one : I think loosing the die roll hurt me the worst here. That and my hand was good... But i didnt have a basic. ;/ He leads with a despise... stripping a snapcaster... not like it hurt... But I guess it set him up for the turn three lilly that got to ultimate. I literally didnt see a lick of anything that could help me. I lost to inkmoths, with trigon's of rage.

Sideboarding: Basically the same as game one, but I kept the negates in and moved out the devils play and the chandra... I boarded in both AG, and I had one main.

Game two : The fight was a lot better now that I was on the play I suppose. Perhaps the hand was just better. A long drawn out game with me nearly decking my self... I countered 3 surgical extractions... :/ Very fierce.

Game three : I missed a land drop early on, Turn 4 or something. There were a few issues I had with this game. No pilot errors, except insufficient randomization... I needed to shuffle better. I was tired. ect. Another long drawn out fight. Disperse was clutch in this match. I learned to love that card tonight. I lose in the end however. Not by poison either. He might as well been playing lashwrithe beats. He saw 3 of them. Lol.

    (3-2-0)(1-1-0)

    Round Three : Bant pod.
    Lose the die roll. (Lol)

Game one : I kept a solid hand but drew dead near turn 7... I stopped threat after threat but lost when I was digging for a slag storm to a Precursor golem and a phyrexian metamorph.... I had a few cards in hand.... but nothing that can stop 18 flat. ;/

Sideboarding: I bring in doomblade, More artifact hate, and basically all of my spot removal I have, + Surgical extraction, getting rid of chandra, devils play, and the giestflame since hes slow rolling me without birds.

Game two: Hand was solid. Deck preformed just as it should have....Solving issue after issue and winning by a sorins vengeance.

Game three: I kept a hand with no blue source but a shimmering grotto. On turn 4 I drew my DC, but it came into play tapped... I felt like the entire game I was digging for additional blue sources and a slag storm.... I played around with it as much as I could and drew as deep as I could go but by the time I hit my first slagstorm he had Titan + Image out... and it was a loosing game. I Slagstorm... killing the Mirran crusader and 2 tokens. Then attempt to tribute to hunger... with 2 mana open... which was quickly met by a mana leak... In which I'm at 3... GG. I didnt have the leak in my hand. was praying at that point.

    (4-4-0)(1-2-0)(D)

I leave at that point. Every deck gets a bad draw now and then. I suppose that my home star runner of the day was disperse.... Lord do I love that card. I'm going to attempt to find room for it in the main as it does amazing great things with snapcaster. (The guy I lost too with Pod is staying the night, Ill attempt to get 20 games in, best 2-3, with board for efficent testing against this list and what our matchup is against this deck.

    Thanks. Ill report later....

    (he's reading as im typing...
    xxx: twenty....?
    Me: You'll be alright. Lol.)

How has Olivia Voldaren been working for you. I looked at here when I first constructed but then I convinced my self that I didn't need here. Tomorrow is Fmn, we're expecting 25+ Ill post what top was and how I preformed if I do decide to pilot this.

With green the deck gets more expensive and consistent. I suppose its just a matter on how much you're willing to spend. Add green for the fog effect and throw in snapcasters to get it back when you need it. Theres a thread around here somewhere for a deck like this.

  • posted a message on [[Official]] Turbo Fog
I agree with that deck not seeming like a fog deck. Theres only one fog effect, + worm coil? I agree with snapcasters, but beaters like worm could, the mana it takes to consume for that could be better wellspent.

I agree with John above.... You cant slash green and keep koth in... Koth and ramp out ridiculous amounts of mana, for great things... but if you start taking away the red sources hes suddenly not all as good. Shouldnt flying just get past tree? Why not fly over it with inkmoth?

Krooks, I likes your list and all but I suppose I dont see an engine... You need some sort of draw. Perhaps blood gift? or Altar's Reap? Entomber exarch might server well in these list. Also... Night terrors, singleton or not... Is a little high costed for its purpose.

I still don't see how dedicating 4 slots, to the same cause is the right way to go about this. Why not just up to three ratchet bombs if you're scared of it that much... Or perhaps a buried ruin in the main. I don't see how a 5 cost sorcery speed spell for such a minor effect is worth it... Sure curse allows titans to be dismembered but like I said, if their resolving that kind of thing against you arent you headed down the wrong path anyway?

What is the hardest match up for this kind of combo deck?

Yeah I would argue the control matchup as well. Since you're running white, Timely reinforcements puts a stop to most agro... the only problem you're going to have is being out controlled. I run a grixis list that I boast dominates most types of control decks right now, I run a nine counter suit...

With additional negates and freezes in the board... I would base it counter heavy unless you have a meta of nothing but agro.

Here's the list I think should be suitable.

Edit :: Heres that sample list I was thinking of...

Incinerate or other burn spells would work. It might be better than shock. You have the effects of an agro deck. Curse of stalked prey puts +1/+1 counters on all your dudes. Thrumming bird adds additional counters to all your guys and shrine of burning rage since you play a lot of burn spells making it easy for a fast win. Hope I helped in some way.
