    Arcane Denial

If I use this card to counter my opponent's spell, on his next upkeep he can draw up to 2 cards. Then on his draw step, he draws another card right?

My friend and I was arguing this the other day. He says you draw up to 2 cards in total. But I said that it's 3 cards in total. You get up to 2 during upkeep phase and then 1 more for your draw phase.

    Which is the correct way?

So lets say a 2/2 Knight of the Reliquaryis out and Destructive Force is cast.

The 5 lands will be put into the grave pumping KotR by +5/+5. At the same time it is marked with 5 damage which, at the time is lethal. Destructive Force resolves and the game state is checked. Will KotR be 7/7 and live through destructive force? Or will force kill KotR before the +5/+5 is applied? From my understanding power/toughness modifiers are applied first before anything. So KotR should live right?

    No love for Lavaball Trap?

I thought about lavaball. I have 2 of them I think. But I don't wanna kill my mana dorks. They really help me get stuff out. Got a T4 Hellkite Charger nice and quick.

So tonight at FNM I went 2-2. Only reason I lost 2 was b/c of misplays.

    Game 1 : B/R aggro w/ Fling 1-2
1st round was slow. I got mana flooded and he killed me with some 4/3 1BR unearth creature and hexmage. And fling ftw.

Sideboard: -1 Hellkite, -2 Acidic Slime, +3 Cunning Sparkmage

2nd round I was able to consistently kill his lavaclaws and dragonskull summits with ruinblaster, tec edge, acidic slime. Got him down to 1 swamp T6 or T7. And he just couldn't cast anything from his hand b/c of lodestone. Swung for the win.

3rd round was going nicely. Acidic slimes were enough of a threat to warrant terminates and lodestones got bolted. I got in for some early dmg with ruinblaster. But this is where I played wrong. He got 2 hexmages and I topdecked a golem. Played the golem. Next turn I swung with it and keeping Nest Invader + eldrazi spawn for chumping. I didn't realize until it was too late he was gonna multiblock killing the golem and costing me the game.

    Sideboard: Nothing

    Game 2: UW Control 0-2
1st round I got mana flooded again. Tried keeping him down but jace 2.0 resolved and me without any bolts or rolling terrain. Fateseal locked me down and he soon got sun titan to bring back the lands. it was game.

2nd round With tec edge, ruinblaster I was able to lock him completely out of white for about 5 turns. Killed a jace 2.0 with hellkite. But it eventually got pathed. With 2 nest invaders on my end and a bolt in hand. He had only 1 wall of omen at 2 life. I bolted and swung for lethal, but he had a redirect of ALL cards, killed a nest invader and I drew no more threats as the another jace 2.0 locked me out with fateseal. I should have swung with the nest invaders and bolted main phase 2. But I was an idiot..

Game 3: UR Pyromancer Ascension 2-0

1st round was pretty slow and dangerous. I was always nervous, but thankfully by ramping and playing around mana leak I was able to resolve Acidic Slimes to his Pyromancer Ascensions, which he didn't pull out until T4 or T5. Without an ascension and desperately See beyond, Time Warp, Ponder, Preordaining for answers, he came up short. With ruinblaster and golem he eventually scooped at 2 life and no answers. Ruinblaster and tec edge didn't help much here b/c he didn't have non-basics besides Halimar Depths. I should of sided in more burn.

    Sideboard: Nothing

2nd round: I kept an opening hand with birds, 2 acidic slimes, and a couple LD. Ramped up while popping his lands with Rolling Terrains. Lodestone golems also were bolted swiftly. My opponent eventually got 2 pryomancer ascensions out with 1 counter on each. I suspected mana leak in his hand and ramping up to 8, I was able to resolved an Acidic Slime while he mana leaked killing an ascension. Next turn I did the same with my 2nd slime killing the 2nd ascension. Hellkite soon came out ftw.

Game 4: Rouge Bant Defender Mass Polymorph with Avenger of Zendikar 2-0

1st round: It was a very slow game as he had Guard Gomoza and I wasn't pulling creatures outside of 1 ruinblaster and birds/battlement. Eventually I was able to bolt the Gamoza, play a Hellkite and go in for 5. Next turn I was able to swing again, activating Hellkite's ability to go for 10 total. Without any defense against flying, he scooped.

    Sideboard: Nothing

2nd round: This game went AMAZING. I was able to shut him down to only 3 plains killing every island, halimar depth, colonnade, and forest that came in. He got severely color screwed with ruinblasters swinging every turn and Hellkite eventually came out ftw. His hand was filled with blue and green. A jace 1.0, cancel, overgrown battlement, and some other cards I don't remember. I loved it.

    Overall
I don't need the Everflowing Chalice as I found 2 more bolts to be a lot more useful. I do think I need to drop 1-2 tec edges for more forest as I did get color screwed out of green while playtesting afterwards.

I think I need 4 Mold Shamblers sideboard against planeswalkers. Or maybe swap Acidic Slime out entirely for them. What do you guys think?

I also think that there should be a better mana producer besides Overgrown Battlement, but I don't have cobras. Also, mana consistency was an issue. Sometimes I got mana flooded and sometimes I got mana screwed. I think it's my shuffling. Not sure.

Also I an unable to kill anything with more than 3 toughness pre-board and 4 toughness post-board. This is a real issue. I was just lucky I didn't face any mono green with baloths or something like that. But there aren't any good "Destroy creature" cards in RG, is there?

My sideboard also didn't do much. But then again I didn't run into any fast aggro decks. So I'm not sure how it'll do there.

I think WotC did a misprint with Arc Runner and forgot to include Trample LOL. I don't know what their R&D was thinking. Seriously. I'll put in the acidic slimes and run it at FNM today. See how it goes.

Thank you so much for the advice Shinato :] I'll report back how it goes today.

Yeah Obstinates are definitely a no-go. They're being used. It looks like the only replacement for Arc Runners are Acidic Slimes. Don't know how many of those there are. I wouldn't mind Hell's Thunder since its a pretty good card, but RDW is making them expensive and they are rotating.

Yeah the more I look at it, all I see is either run the Arc Runner or swap them out for Acidic Slime. Put the 2 collars sideboard unless there's something else. I kinda want a wipe so my creatures can get in. Earthquake, Pyroclasm, Volcanic Fallout, etc but that would kill my mana dorks too...

Terastodon is nice, but he seems expensive. I see no hope for my deck anywhere past T5 or T6. I'd either get out-controlled or overrun. What do you think about trading the expanses for Tectonic Edges?

Well, take what you can get, but Ravine will certainly help over Expanse since you aren't really making use of any landfall effects here.

I don't think it'll screw up the curve very badly considering, you have 4 nonbasic land killers and 4 basic land killers. Along with Lodestone Golem, which is good disruption. I'd say you're going to need 4 more landkillers to really call it 'land destruction'. Arc Runner is more ineffective than anything else since it's too easy to get chumpblocked and you really don't have the removal to clear the way for it; if you're looking for a good 3cc hasty creature, look to Hell's Thunder or something, as it at the very least has evasion and unearth. Think of it this way... due to Runner's tendency to get blocked, it's like paying 2R to deal 5 damage to your opponent IF you're lucky, but more often 2R to deal 5 damage to a blocker of the opponent's choice, and you don't want them making those kinds of choices. It's almost depressing how bad Arc Runner is, that yes, I would even replace him with a higher cc-slot creature. I understand how you want a hasty guy in Vengevine's place but the key to Vengevine isn't exactly his haste--he does come out swinging but sticks around. For awhile. Even after he dies, which is what makes him awesome, as opposed to being sac'd at end of turn. If you must have a 4cc beater, try Obstinate Baloth as he will also improve your matchup versus RDW and some discard.

The two spots in your sideboard might also be good for Basilisk Collar to combo with your Sparkmages, since LD is not really a fast deck (as in no turn 4 kills) so much as it is a disruptive one.

Yeah, I'll dump the fetches for 2 more mountains and 2 more forests. As to the Arc Runner situation what do you think about Rampaging Baloth? My friend is using the Obstinate Baloths in our pool. And I don't feel comfortable with Leatherback Baltoh being GGG.

I thought about putting collar in there, I was just worried about consistency and actually pulling them. If I were to use them I would need to side out 6 cards for the 4 sparkmages and 2 collars. Would I side out Ruinblasters and...Lodestone?

Some people are saying that I should go grixis, toss in discard with blightning, add demolish. Or just plain add black in there for discard. I think it would hurt my mana even more since I don't have the good fetchlands or Dragonskull Summit. What do you guys think?

Could try Acidic Slime; it takes out a land/artifact/enchantment and makes a relatively competent blocker. I'm not a big fan of Arc Runner due to the lack of trample and obviously the fact that you pretty much need an empty field for him to do any kind of damage to the opponent, which generally involves casting a big Earthquake or something of the like beforehand.

Hellkite Charger is also kind of out-of-place here, but I hear he combos well with Bear Umbra for infinite attack phases, if you're into that kinda thing.

If possible, also remove the Refuges or the Expanse playset, since you're not really using landfall, for Raging Ravine which in itself can make a good attacker.

Do you think that acidic slime would mess up the curve? The only really expensive card I have in there are the hellkites. The Arc Runners are supposed to be Vengevines like I said, but I don't own any so those have to make due.

The reason why I chose the Hellkite charger is b/c of haste. It's one of the few hard hitting creatures with haste, plus the evasion is nice.

Yeah I'm not digging the budget fetches and duals, but at the same time I don't wanna get color screwed. Haven't playtested much with it yet so I'm not sure how my mana base is. Birds are supposed to be Lotus Cobra, but then again that costs a lot lol.

Ideally, I would have Lotus Cobra over Birds, but I don't have those.

And also I would have Vengevine over Arc Runner, but I don't have those either.

I'd also have 3 Misty Rainforest and 3 Scalding Tarn over the 4 Terramorphic Expanses and 2 basics, but don't have them again LOL.

What do you guys think about this? I'm already loaded for control, but I feel like I'd get trounced by aggro decks which are better and popular in this format. I'm also shaky about the sideboard. I have so much burn in there to try and hold aggro down, but honestly I have no idea what to side out or when I'd use 13 cards worth of burn.

    Any criticism, suggestions, ideas, etc?

If creature A has deathtouch and is multi-blocked, can I assign damage in such a way that it just pokes each blocking creature for 1? Or do I have to assign lethal before moving onto the next creature?

What if the creature A has death touch and trample?

Yeah but whats throwing me of is that fog says I can prevent it. Is there a rule section/number or something that gives the me exact wording as to why?

    Fog
    Unstable Footing

So lets say I fog and in response opponent uses unstable footing. footing resolves not letting me prevent damage, but then fog resolves which prevents damage. Would I have fog or not? I think I would since this sounds like an issue of timestamp and that my fog is more recent.

However, if the opponent didn't do it in response, could I cast a 2nd fog to cancel out the footing?

    Fauna Shaman

If shaman were to be destroyed in response to activating the ability the ability is NOT countered/fizzle/illegal right? Because upon paying the cost (which doesn't use the stack) the ability is independent from its source right?

I would replace the 4 planeswalkers with jace 2.0 but don't have them. What do you guys think about this deck? Any ideas for sideboard? I'm thinking creatures for sideboard so when they board out removal I board creatures like 2 Sphinx of Jwar Isle and I'm not sure what else.

    sigil of the empty throne
    ardent plea

Do I get a 4/4 when I cascade into this? I imagine that they either see each other come into play. Either that or the sigil of the empty throne will be on top of the stack above plea due to cascade.
