Jeez man. Played a bant deck game one. He plays knight, voice, 2 mana dorks, 2 selfless spirits. I pull off the win. Go to side, think "I'll keep dark blast in. He had 4 x/1s there... probably has birds too. Seems good.

Keep a hand of lands, darkblast, brutality game 2. Turn 1, dork. I darkblast. Turn two, another dork. Tapped land, darkblast dredged. He plays voice. I think "Ha, this will be funny." Brutality all 3 modes, darkblast voice token. Turn 4... darkblast a selfless spirit. Turn 5. Darkblast a bird. BTW, dredging 3 isnt very fast, but I manage to FINNALLY dredge into 1 amagamate, 1 bloodghast, and on turn 6 darkblast, a dakmor. Cool, Dredge a dakmor on turn 7, play dakmor, get ghast and amagamate.

He plays a bird and a selfless spirit. Seems good, darkblast spirit on your turn, dredge darkblast, darkblast bird, swing. "GG darkblast is super broken, what an unfair deck... Needs a ban"

Darkblast... has to be like... one of our least broken cards. It kills... Dorks... and thats about it really... kills like... one thing a turn... and dredges... 3. Don't play like... 16 X/1s?

Sigh. On a side note. This is why dark blast is boss. Mana dorks, infect, affinity, theres a ton of good x/1 drops right now. Is very cool to just have a single tool boxed card in the main that wrecks them. I am genunely worried about a ban. I dont think dredge is good enough to be banned mind you. I think we are exactly at tier 1 power level, nothing more nothing less, but the salt levels run high. I dont think spirit guide breaks the deck. I think it gives you a broken deck sometimes, and an aweful one at other times... but I remember when it became fad to do it in amulet, and helped that get a turn 2 reputation, that eventually helped get it the ban, even though by the time the ban rolled around everyone agreed the spirit guide version was less consistent.

    The darkblasting is hilarious XD

On a more serious note, I think the possibility of a ban is still very far away. What made bloom so problematic is that when they went off it was finished and that in some cases it also being so early. Dredge by no means just wins when the engine is online. Another issue with Bloom was that people didn't have decent silver bullets in all colours against stopping the deck as a whole, whereas dredge is very similar to affinity in that regard (most people just need a form of graveyard hate and they will have a way of interacting meaningfully with you). If they do finally opt for a ban I think they would go for a conservative choice and rid us of mom hug as there is legitimately no reason to ban any of the other core cards of the shell. I know that troll was banned, but it is not what was breaking dredge pre-mom hug.

    Hello!

So I brought in a Griselbrand at my end step with Through the Breach. My opponent starts his turn and does little. My opponent's end step gets announced. The Griselbrand then goes to graveyard.

My question is at what point in that phase can I still cast Goryo's Vengeance in order to bring that same Griselbrand back? How does priority work in that end step too along with adding in the Goryo's Vengeance I want to cast?

So I went 3-1-1 with this list at my lgs the other day. I just have a couple of questions:

    1. Would you all agree for the most part that Sleight of Hand is our weakest card in the deck? I often sided it out first.
    2. Has anyone tested either gitaxian probe or Insolent Neonate replacing Sleight of Hand in the main deck? Or something like Inquisition of Kozilek?
    3. Is there any way for us to consider Cathartic Reunion in the deck?
    4. I have been considering Vendilion Clique in the sideboard too as a good way to get around negate/dispel effects while also providing another threat for the deck by which to win. Any thoughts?

Hello guys, so I am thinking of giving this a try at my lgs:

It is pretty much the stock standard grisselbrand grixis list. I am expecting another grisselshoalbrand deck, toolbox, jund, rdw and a couple of others. Can someone just give me some pointers on sideboarding? I for instance don't know how I'd sideboard in against the shoal version. I'd like to go 4 void and 4 thoughtseize, but should I consider the white leylines too because he might reasonably bring in thoughtseize and stops the one win condition?

    Hello,

This might be a silly question, but I would actually like to know what a retailer typically paid for a box of mm2 in the States and Europe. I want to do a couple of calculations within my own country to look at what is happening prize support wise and mark up wise.

    Any help would be great!

    Hello,

I would like to hear how players have upped their win rate against Grishoalbrand.

I have tried a couple of my favourite tier 1 modern decks and I am still finding lacklustre results against the deck (even when I have sufficient graveyard hate or hand disruption).

What decks would you say does it fold to the hardest? What are the most sufficient ways in killing the deck?

Then a couple of other questions:

    1. If you can slaughter games the deck, what would you actually pick? (please provide your reasoning too)
    2. Surgical extraction, is it worth it?
    3. Do you have experience on when the grixis version faces the normal shoal version? What is your experience in this match up?

  • posted a message on Prized Amalgam interactions
    Hello,

I just want to know what happens in the following situation(s):

Play Faithless Looting - for the first draw you dredge back a golgari grave-troll and then you open a narcomoeba while on the second card you dredge back another golgari grave-troll and reveal a Prized Amalgam. Both get returned, correct?

Now I also want to know what happens if you have the same scenario as above but you only got the second golgari grave-troll in the graveyard after you dredged the one back. Does anything differ? How is this declared (choosing the dredge card)? Do you sort it all per draw or is their sequencing involved? Similarly with the top situation.

Last question. Is there any way to activate a sorcery before a landfall trigger resolves from a bloodghast? Or does that stack only allow for instant speed interactions even though it is in your main phase?

I just want to be the first to say that I really appreciate the depth of info! Thank you!
It will be going to good use and hopefully I can contribute to the forum too.

Quick question, why no copperline gorge?

  • posted a message on [Primer] Affinity

    Hello guys!

I've only recently had the ability to rebuild my Affinity and finally did it. This is the list I think of running at my LGS. I am still a bit undecided about a couple of slots but for the most part I am happy. I am still considering the if I should add more master of etherium or not (Is there any consensus about the split? I .

What I really need help with is a bit of sideboarding advice. I'd like to know how you'd sideboard with the list above against b/w tokens, jund, jeskai, infect, and through the breach combos (in many ways I've chosen the sideboard because of those decks).

    Any help would be awesome!

Can anyone provide me a bit with a match up guide for Jeskai Harbinger? I like to think match ups like tron and boggles are the worse, but I am uncertain.

    Hello!

I'm thinking of dabbling in RDW again. I want to run a pretty stock standard boros or naya rdw list at my local event (I'm still undecided about nacatl).

I want some help on 1) which cards to include in my sideboard (tailored for my local meta) and 2)some advice on how to sideboard with those cards (there is a grixis through the breach, b/w tokens, nahiri control, merfolk, and jund to be expected).

    Hello!

I think it is finally time for me to give the suicide zoo a proper go. I was curious about match up difficulties and such. I am quite sure that RDW is the most difficult, but what about match ups like through the breach, b/w tokens, jund, nahiri control etc?

6.6% of your deck are less efficient than normal. That doesn't mean your deck is performing at 93.4% - those cards still do something, just not enough.
There's no such thing as "cumulative ineffectiveness". It's possible he didn't draw a single Nacatl all day - if he never drew it, the card had no effect.

You can't add percentages and assume that at some point it would've failed, and he won so it must not have.
Did he drop a game ever throughout the tournament? Or did he 2-0 every match? Did he lose any matches?

Of course a ratio value can accumulate. It is possible that he never draw a single Nacatl, BUT IT IS ONE OF THE MOST UNLIKELY HYPOTHESES WE SIT WITH. The 6.6% I show here is just the 4 together, NOT THE ACCUMULATION. Please for the love of...read properly. I did not say this is the accumulated value, I said it will accumulate since you have more instances of event x occurring in n amount of times.

Furthermore, now that you're representing all these uncertainties. That gives you even less authority to make any claims about the potential value of the Nacatl since all of these conditions will have to be met by your own absurd (and just downright bias) standards in assessing the value of a card or making in worthwhile claim.

I would say, as has been mentioned, that the decks are winning in spite of running Nacatl.
I don't think it helps our gameplan at all.

Against fair decks it's often a blocker (because no haste to take advantage of them swinging out)
Against combo decks it's 3 damage over 2 turns which is slow.

Nacatl is like a Rift Bolt that you sometimes choose not to cast from Suspend.

Okay, but you need to expand on that claim. It is 6.6 % of the deck that is ineffective and now I am playing it out over say 12-15 rounds. It also means that the ineffective component is exposed multiple times over the course of a full event which would suggest that you have a cumulative ineffectiveness that should just gut you out of the event. Yet, the opposite is true. You realise how this is overly simplistic to say this?

It's not useless. It's just (very) suboptimal. It can do things. Other cards do things better.
So no, your statements aren't correct. The decks running Nacatl aren't running at 100% efficiency, but good piloting and the rest of the deck being good got them there.
You do realize that 4 cards being sub par isn't going to mean you automatically lose, right? They're just sub par and it'll be harder to win overall.

And I was wrong - Nacatl is worse than a Rift Bolt you don't cast off suspend. Because you have to fetch 2 shocks to make it worth anything at all, meaning 4-6 damage before you even look at what your opponent is doing.

You read my response pretty poorly. I am not saying the rest of the deck is efficient. I did not claim anything in that extent. I just worked on the agreed upon inefficient 4 spots that translate roughly to 6.6%. I also did not say you will lose immediately. I said you have to look at a cumulative ineffectiveness that will finally take its toll on you after N number of rounds (and in the case I said 12-15 rounds).
