Hmm I will look into those 2. Are those generals easy to build around relatively cheaply? Thanks for the suggestions.
I see that there are premade EDH decks that Wizards sells. Are any of them worth getting to "kickstart" my EDH collection? Are any of them a good way to cheaply pick up a decent pool of cards?
As the title says, I am looking to get into the EDH format. I have been out of Magic for the past year or so, having played standard and modern FNM's for awhile before that. I am looking to get back into the game and have been reading up on EDH. Sounds like a pretty fun format and right up my alley.
I currently don't have access to a huge pool of cards. I sold most of my playsets of modern stuff last time I quit, though I did keep "1 of's" in my trade binder of cards I like to collect, so I do have a bit of stuff. As such, I don't have a ton of stuff I could trade to get into EDH at the moment, nor do I have a huge budget for purchasing cards. Though honestly I wouldn't want to commit a ton of money yet until I know if I like the format (and can find a group to play with).
So anyways, I am looking for a recommendation of a general / deck that would be good to get into EDH with.
White and Blue are my favorite colors, and control or aggro-control are my favorite styles of play. I am looking to build a deck for $100 or so (if it is possible to do that with white/blue) to begin with. I really like Angels, they have been one of my favorite creature types in Magic since I've been playing, so if there are viable EDH decks that run those that'd be cool (by viable I don't mean crazy uber competitive, but I also don't want to lose every game either as that gets old too ). As an alternative, I also like Elves (if white/blue wasn't possible, I'd probably play green).
So with that background, what kind of General / deck recommendations would folks have?
Sorry if this is not the right place, I didn't know if I could ask about an unreleased set in the General forums, but how do you get a hold of the FTV: Legends set? Will they be sold in mass market stores, or how do you purchase one?
Alright thanks, I am looking at a lot of these Angels and Dragons, and am kind of making a list of the ones that I like.
However, it is looking like all of my creatures so far are going to be expensive angels and dragons =D, what are some good cheap creatures (utility or not) that would work well with this setup? I already know Weathered Wayfarer would be nice, but what else to help me with the low end of my curve?
Very cool, what about good card draw engines for the red, white, black colors that I am playing? Off the top of my head I know black has stuff like sign in blood...
Thanks Biomechanika, that looks like a good starting point.
What about mana acceleration? I realize my colors limit that some what, but a lot of the angels/demons/dragons are really expensive, so what are good ways to accel to that mana or "cheat" them into play?
So I am brand new to EDH. My plan currently is to buy the Heavenly Inferno preconstructed commander deck (as I like Angels and Dragons), and then slowly modify it over time.
I wanted to make a forum post to ask you more experienced EDH players: starting with the Heavenly Inferno Precon as my deck, what modifications would you guys make to it? What are some good cards to add/replace in that deck? What are some good angels and dragons that work well in EDH?
I have been kind of looking at some of the EDH staple cards, and some of them I already have like the Divining Tops seem to go well in every EDH deck...
Not that I am saying the OP is lying or anything like that, but is there any confirmation that this happened (e.g. Maro being at this event and saying Jace rotates) beyond what the OP has said?
Yeah the links were just examples/ideas of what I like. It would be nice to have it done a little bit more professionally.
I am not too worried about high level play, as I probably won't go to tournaments except every once in awhile. I mostly just play at FNM, so I don't imagine it being a huge problem there. Also if you guys have an artists you'd recommend, that would be useful information as well!
I am looking for an artist to alter some of my favorite MTG cards. I am mostly looking for an extended border alteration, as I would like (if possible) for the cards to still be tournament playable, at the very least at a FNM level. From what research I've done, it seems so long as the name, the art, and the text/cost of the card are all visible and not changed too badly, it will be playable (though ultimately it is up to the judge's discretion).
At any rate, I am looking for extended art on the following cards (not necessarily all at once):
Stoneforge Mystic
Hero of Bladehold
Knight Exemplar
Gideon Jura
Sword of Body and Mind
That list is the order of most wanted to least in terms of altering. I already own the cards, so I would just need to pay for the altering.
Right now I have about $75 in my budget I can devote to altering cards. I realize it isn't a ton, but if I like the work I will probably contact you more to alter more cards in the future.
If you are interested, please PM me and give me examples of some of your artwork, what you charge, estimates on time it would take, things like that. I am hoping that since I already own the cards themselves, $75 is enough to get me a couple of these altered at least.
Saying "destroying Jace with BWI is better than leaving Jace on the field, therefore it is a good answer" is also a flawed and very bad argument.
Yes BWI'ing Jace is better than leaving him on the field, that does not make a good answer though. Neither situation is good or optimal. Just because it is the "Best" answer between your options of leaving Jace alive, or destroying him, does not mean that it is a "good" answer. I don't think people are understanding this distinction...
Either way I guess we will see that BWI is not good enough when Caw continues to dominate after NPH's release...
@Carthage - Thanks for the detailed info!

Yeah I realized after I posted that that my general can cheat them into play =X, but as was pointed out, that won't always work!
Anyways do you guys think this is a sound way to start in EDH? Buy a precon and modify it on my own from there?

I meant to post this in the "EDH Discussion" forum, so I guess I will be remaking it and doing that, mods can lock this one!

Not sure if I am allowed to do this (please tell me if I am not and I will remove the links), but here are some examples of extended cards I really like:

- I like the SFM with the 2 Swords drawn in, really like this style
