I think it could work in some sort of Grixis midrange deck. The thing is, sure Archive Trap makes it an instant kill if the Bloodchief Ascension has counters on it, but like another poster said your goal should either be to mill them or to drain them not both.

You would need some sort of card that just mills as a side effect, or like a charm that has a mill mode. Incendiary Command could work if they had enough cards in there hand. Such a shame that it's not standard anymore. It really looks like Burning Inquiry is the best card for the job, but then if you're doing that you're probably better of running a Megrim deck.

If your meta is heavy in Green/White then it might be worth it to mainboard it.

If you are in Grixis however Terminate and Doomblade are better options. In fact the only reason I can think of that you would need a Deathmark for is Sphinx of the Steel Wind.

Tomorrow? I'll be playing with Naya aggro most likely. Only until I get the cards to make my Grixis Bloodchief Ascension deck.

Plated Geopede and Steppe Lynx are just amazing early on. Later stuff like Ob Nixilis, The Fallen and Rampaging Baloths are just absolutely devastating. I personally I'm going to have to give the edge to Baloths since you're not putting all your eggs into one basket with him.

Somebody pulled a Mox Ruby at my pre-release today. It was the only reported "Treasure" of the day.

I don't know why everyone is complaining. No this card isn't amazing but at common this is an interesting card that could actually see play. Not every card in the set can be absolutely mind boggling.

Sometimes people just ask for too much. So what if Blue is looking a little weak lately, it can't ALWAYS be the strongest color.

Blood Feast does seem a little sub-par as a sorcery. If it were an instant that only required you to have 1 vampire out then it would be playable but as is it wont see play outside of casual vamp decks.

I hate so much the idea of restricting myself to one color but mono black vamps are looking SO good right now.

That's not how the card works. Exiling the spell is just a fancy way of allowing it to counter cards that can't be countered like Banefire and Great Sable Stag. It doesn't let you reverse time and it doesn't effect board position.

Is this really that hard to understand?

That said this is a very interesting deck. I could definitely see it being played in the older formats as a cheaper answer to storm. In standard it's really not a mainboard card. I'd say throw 2 or 3 in the sideboard for those pesky cascade decks and those weird green traps that just pound your face in for running regular counterspells. This would only ever see mainboard play if blue was just absolutely desperate for counterspells(which looking at the spoiler thus far might not be a far leap).

Bloodbraid hitting a borderpost does not look fun to me at all.

You could try Naya Charm. It is such a multi tool. Trust me you'll love it.

    Filigree Fracture against Esper decks.

A friend of mine runs a Naya Aggro that uses Birds of Paradise to pump out a turn 2 Woolly Thoctar and then follows it up with a turn 3 Cliffrunner Behemoth it sounds pretty effective maybe give it a try?

Oh and also Wild Nacatl is good.

Alot of those cards sound really good i'll definitely have to try out the elemental blast and burnout, maybe throw rebuff the wicked and dawn charm in there for good measure. Thanks again guys you're lifesavers.

Me and my friends have been having this ongoing arguement about which of these two shards is stronger. For the sake of anonymity I wont vote until much later. The arguement includes cards from 2010 and spoiled cards from zendikar but if you wanna make desicions based on cards in block only thats fine.

I've been playing a lot of EDH lately with my Argus Kos deck and I've realized that appropriately placed counterspells just rape my deck and being in Red/White I don't really have any of my own.

This got me thinking more about the color pie. I know blue is the established color for counterspells nowadays but back in the old days the color pie wasn't always so definied. I mean we had cards like Serendib Efreet so it wouldn't be a long shot to think that we had counterspells in other colors back in the day.

Oh and the reason I put this in the EDH board was because I was looking for counterspells that could work in EDH while Dash Hopes might have been good in standard(I don't actually know since I didn't play standard at that time) it's not particularly good in EDH.
