Had a few hours of free time and tried to make a planeswalker setup for Invocations, along with doing a second walker with my custom masterpiece frame as well.

if you have the time, you could try to make a custom background texture on the invocation template so the sharpness difference with the fonts and mana symbols be less noticeable.
And you write bloas instead of bolas in the type bar Smile
The samut template is great Smile

It seems that the background frame is not high enough in resolution. It is very difficult to make I believe.

You are correct. As it is I have not been able to find a hi-res scan to work with. I'm trying to recreate as much as I can with out losing the original elements which is not easy. If I can find a good scan to work with I might be able to get something sharper looking, but until then I gotta work with what I got.

Try to think out of the box. Re-draw the whole thing as you need and make your own adjustment on it. Create your own Amonkhet Template. Why bother being restricted by the original design and idea totally?

And there is no proper Amonkhet Font out there. The font made by MSE is not that good either.

@Petercal: Nice! I like this one. Maybe too many Bolas horns at the bottom? XD Upper part of the frame could use some Horus-like wings and head maybe?

I cut out so much of the Invocation ornamentation that I need to keep some obvious cues to remind people this is still an Invocation. Bolas horns will do that (That & I have no idea what to fill the otherwise blank space with). Smile

Speaking of visual cues, I made one last revision to incorporate the color-striped stones on the sides.

Now it is pretty obvious this is a minimalist Invocation. Hopefully this better captures the spirit of the Invocation design without all the clutter.

@Petercal: I might be a bit late to the feedback train, but I really do like your V1 take. It really reminds me of what people had in their minds when the word "Invocations" was announced and how people speculated that it would be some sort of scroll frame. I also think that the flavor of a scroll being used to cast an instant or a sorcery is much better than what wizards settled (although I know im not the only one with this opinion).

That being said your V5 is very clean and evokes the feel of a premium card (which I think is the purpose of the masterpiece series altogether). It sticks to your minimalist frame principles and keeps the art center stage while giving the slight effect of a protruded slab (this might be just me). I only wish we had access to a sharper edged - less painted looking invocation border as it looks only slightly out of place in your clean modern frame. A fantastic effort and definitely going in the right direction in my opinion.

Thank you very much for your kind compliments. I fixed up the minimalist Invocation (v6) as you can see above. What's pertinent to the points you raise is that I added a very subtle shadow gradient on the right and left edges of the art to make the color-striped stones stand out. This better matches the top & bottom gold protrusions (I purposefully chose them to make the card "pop" out without using other eye candy). Also, I think it better approximates the feel (idea, anyways) of the official Invocation without all the clutter.

As for the scroll idea, I'm making it my "sorcery" card frame (like Expedition for land, Invention for artifact, Theros for enchanment). Here's my first try:

Things I'm currently tinkering with are:
    1) left & right edge of art should be jagged to suggest parchment connecting top & bottom rolls
    2) glowing arcane font characters (gold letters with glow color to match color of spell) on left and right edges (can anyone give me tips on how to do this?)

    Any other ideas/suggestions?

I think v6 is the best. Obviously the Invocation ornamentation and the color-striped stones on the sides are very important elements to make it a Amonkhet Invocation like Minimalist Template. Hope you can complete it for all the color-striped frame. Really like the v6 one. Thanks for sharing.

I made some Amonkhet proxies for my cube for those interested.

    Other Non-Amonkhet Proxies:

Oh, truly nice and thanks for your kind sharing, especially for those new duallands. What I would like to say is perhaps you may have to make adjustment on the credit line of all your templates stored as the year is 2017 by now :p . I've done this also to all my templates recently Shocked

Dunno about the hieroglyphic alphabet (header) in the Invocation twins, but it appears the rules text is Shango Gothic Bold.

Thank for your kindly reply. Oh by the way, I don't know why but recently when I click on the link to this thread, sometimes it re-direct me to something else (a page called the Magic Deck Builder is coming soon ). Don't know what happen. Does anyone has any idea what is going on to this thread please? Really hope that this page can carry on and it is really funny to make mtg digital renders here. (I can't get into the Proxy Community out there and I don't know why. I have no way to contact the administrator there either. Can't anyone here come to help and may be at least give me a link to contact the administrator of the Proxy Community please? Really want to join them and have fun there also ^__^ )

I think everyone in here who has a bit of graphic design knowledge can agree the Invocation template is a tad too pushed to the limit. I was wondering what the "usual suspects" can come up with in terms of a more elegant solution. I already saw some decent templates in the Rumor Mill section, but I'd really want to see how Petercal and Kentu can deal with this one Grin

The Invocation Template is really really ugly. But the fonts for it is interesting, especially those used in the Title Bars of the card. Does anyone know what the font name is and where to find it please?

@HolyProxyBatman: Interesting idea on the ultimate, referencing an outside card. I don't know how feasible such a printed planeswalker may be in boosters, where there's no guarantee you get the emblem with the planeswalker together. For a precon product like a planeswalker deck or commander, I think it could work well.

P.S. What's the odd box around the holo foil area?

    This is a very old template that released long long time ago. The odd white box area in the frame is a mistake for sure. I forget who donate it but I pointed this problem out long long time ago.^_^;

On the other hand, it is still no MasterPiece Frame template released so far is a really really really upseting phenomenon.:frown::frown::frown:

So I'm trying to build a "Nyx Masterpiece" full-art frame inspired by the KLD masterpieces. Here's appx. the second draft. I'd love your critiques on it. Especially, what do you think we can do about the textbox? I think it needs a texture instead of just a slight gradient but I'm not sure what kind of texture would be appropriate.

This texture is really really nice. Would you be so kind as to share this "Nyx Masterpiece Frame" template please?

    Hm good questions!

    1) The upper texture is a recolored version of this, I think: http://www.deviantart.com/art/Texture-71-Gold-62136835
1.5) The lower texture is generic wood texture that I can't find anymore!
    2) The layer style I used is:
    3) I'm still working on converting it to Photoshop format! It's a bit of a struggle.

Thanks a lot. Wait for your good news then. ^__^

So recently Isharton on r/magictcg shared some Black Lotus fanart. I made a quick and dirty full-art masterpiece of it.

Great Sharing !!!! Thanks a lot. But may I then ask :

1/What textures are you using for the title bars and also the frame of the MasterPiece( it seems that you have use two different texture to make the frame layers here. One beneath is a wooden like texture and the other one above is just not sure to me......Would you point them out please? or even better , share that texture with me please?

2/What are the settings you use to create the 3D like outlook effect of those frames ( for e.g. bevel settings, shadow settings ,etc )? I just can't figure them out......

3/Any chance you would share your Custom Template formerly shown in this thread please? (I think you know what I mean ^__^ )

finally, just forgive me for my poor english writing please as it is not my mother tongue.

    Thank You Very Much!!!
Happy New Year for you all fellow members here!!!!!
    Happy Digital Rendering!!!!!
