I'm a little bummed it's not an instant, but then it might be busted.

How does it being an instant help you most of the time? You'd need Teferi emblem to do anything with the planeswalkers.

I don't have to invest 6 mana on my turn if it's an instant.

Weren't you the one that derailed this thread by rattling off all of their fallacies instead of discussing the topic over on the first page?

My post was actually on topic, but some peopel were so offended by the term 'dumbed down' that they lynched me - mostly with posts ignoring my points but focusing on my supposed condescending nature and extrapolating my opinons however they saw fit. That's how the thread got derailed. Next time try reading it.

Apparently it's okay to call somebody pompous, a douchebag, or to liken them to an idiot; but to suggest a company might be dumbing down a product is strictly taboo Rolleyes

No, you started derailing the thread the moment you started inciting negative responses back from your opponents with comments such as "Did I strike a nerve? I sure hope you don't teach logic!"

With that comment above, you go on to state: "I'm not being condescending - I'm stating a fact and my objection". This leads me into a couple questions for you:

-Is the phrase "Did I strike a nerve?" purely meant to portray and hammer your opinion? Does it really help in the delivery of your statement? This statement in general seems to be rhetorical, you really don't care to see a response of yes or no here, nor do you expect it. It does little in moving the discussion forward. The statement is completely unnecessary and irrelevant if not with the purpose of invoking a negative emotion.

-If tacking a line of condescension at the end of your rebuttal/statement (see above) is only for emphasis on your delivery, why is it considered a form of ad-hominem for others? Just like the end result of said ad-hominem attacks resulting in derailment at worst/lack of development in discussion at best, condescending one-liners added to the end of your statements accomplish the same.

Furthermore, isn't the insinuation that I think it's acceptable for others to call you (people in general) names, and that I have a problem with you labeling the changes as "dumbing them down" a strawman in itself? I haven't even given my opinion on the topic either way.

What do you think a person should do wehn somebody they are arguing with is committing fallacies? Just pretend their arguments are sound? If you'd just avoid making these kind of arguments (like you say, anyone can use google to learn about fallacies), I woudn't have to call you out on them to keep the conversdation moving forward.

My playgroup doesn't seem to mind it, but requests that if you do play with gold bordered cards that your cases aren't see-through, as the cards have a different backing.

In that situation, I'd say "Hey, player 3, don't kill my Trygon Predator and I'll use it to wipe out Player 1's mana rocks"

See where opportunism gets you then.

It would put the state of the game in the same place, only instead of player 1 sitting pretty, player 3 would be, as he can save his removal spell AND allow player 2 to keep destroying player 1's board.

  • posted a message on Causing Rage Scoops: Good or Bad
Yesterday I just played a game of EDH with 2 good friends and another guy from the local card shop (who I don't hang out with consistently). That guy was playing Rafiq as an enchantress style deck. There was also green Kamahl, r/g Wort, and I was playing Lazav.

I had cast bribery on him a few turns back for Aura Thief, but had no way to kill it myself. Fast forward to now, it's Rafiq's turn. He casts an Omniscience (now tapped out). He then goes to cast Mesa Enchantress, which Wort responds with Beast Within on Omniscience. He also controls Mana Reflection, Thassa, God of the Sea, and Thought Reflection. I respond to Beast Within by casting Memory Plunder on a Twincast in Rafiq's yard, copying the Beast Within and killing off the Aura Thief, taking his enchantments.

On Rafiq's next turn, he casts an Open the Vaults after casting Mesa Enchantress. I have an Animate Dead and a Rune-Scarred Demon in my own yard, and as I'm searching for a card, I'm listening to the three of them all talking about different things, but eventually hear Rafiq say "Cast x, draw a card with enchantress.."

I told him I wanted to respond to the cast, and he replied with "It's a cast trigger, not an ETB trigger" and kept going! I asked him to stop since I in fact was planning to grab Snapcaster Mage, flash back Memory Plunder, and cast Kamahl's Krosan Grip on Omniscience. He'd probably drawn about 6 or 7 cards, and shuffled his hand of 15 cards or so, losing memory of which ones he actually drew. He got mad and scooped, saying that I was just trying to start an argument because I couldn't handle the fact that he was winning. Sigh..

In my opinion, Turn//Burn is stronger than Far//Away, and I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be with giving up Warleader's Helix vs aggro, or Thundermaw Hellkite in general.

Edit: Sorry, I am not too familiar with how to link Split Cards.

Easy. I'd tell the truth. I have absolutely no means of possibly carrying out those ludicrous threats.

Alright, and as a side note, I wasn't offended myself, however a friend of mine who wanted to add to this topic was.

To add to this topic again, I just played a game of edh not too long ago where I was killed by a lethal Soulblast. I didn't even know what that card was..haha

Do you like having lungs? Cause you won't have them when I find you.

What would you do if someone actually felt threatened by this and got the police involved? It may or may not have been considered already.

On topic: I really enjoy Undead Alchemist in Grimgrin, Corpse Born. It clutters the board with zombies extremely fast, which can be sacrificed to Grimgrin to make him pretty huge.

I find those pointing to Rachet bomb to end BW are forgetting Stony Silence is in Standard.

I sure hope my BW token opponents board in Stony Silence against me. Doesn't pressure me, costs them a card, AND shuts down their Shrine of Loyal Legions? K.

A creature with 2/1 toughness and flash isn't very good. How many Ambush Vipers are we seeing and he has deathtouch? Nihil Spellbomb does just this kind of neutering to Snapcaster Mage. With Blue themed delver decks, white weenie decks, and all manner of blue based control decks making up a significant portion of the meta, I've taken to running 2-3 of these guys maindeck. It is also a nice backup plan for Moorland Haunt if you don't happen to have a Ghost Quarter handy. It is quite funny to turn 1 spellbomb and then watch your opponent squirm for the next six turns because he has two snapcasters in hand and doesn't want to play them.

While its true that based on the diversity of the meta there is no guarantee you'll run into a snapcaster, its the closest to a sure thing you've got. Besides, even if you don't, you've simply got a 2 mana cantrip whose cost can be split and activated at instant speed.

I hope someone playing Tempered Steel rolls you. On another note, Surgical Extraction is just a better card against Snapcaster Mage, since your opponent isn't going to know it's sitting there in front of you. It's better tempo for you.

unfortunately, WRR do have an answer. It's called Beast Within or from the sideboard, Combust

I'm not so sure you want to give an aggro deck a 3/3 as compensation. Also, Combust is pretty narrow against Tempered Steel.

    What the hell?
You guys are upset that you don't get Pokemon badges to prove that you were in a top 8? If anything, that's a good thing, Wizards is killing off the rich get richer type of attitude to Magic, which is awesome.

Because Pokemon badges (Top 8 Pins) are what fuel said "rich get richer" attitude. To be honest, I lost all motivation to try and top 8 at pro tours when they made this announcement.

  • posted a message on EDH Pet Peeves
    My pet peeves are:

people in this thread who make a statement similar to: "X is not real magic" "Stop doing Y so we can play real magic"..etc.. I guess the reason this bugs me is that it sets up this ideology that to be playing a real game of magic, we have to be doing things your way. I can get behind the people who get upset with infinite combos, or "degenerate" synergies but know that you have the option to dismiss the culprit or yourself from the group.

In that same light, one of my largest pet peeves is people making overgeneralized statements about this format. Example: "Nobody wants to sit down and compete with your Zur deck or your Uril deck." In fact, some players including myself like more of a challenge, and I for one think that when players actually have goals within a game beyond "If you don't just sit there and do nothing, you are not trying to have fun and are too competetive.", the games are more interesting.

Rushing. It irritates me that I can calmly/politely sit and wait for my opponents to take their turns, while analyzing the board positions of each individual..yet when my turn comes around, someone is yelling next to me when I am searching my library for a card or thinking for a brief 3-7 seconds about my play, saying that my turns take forever, or what not. I don't allow them to rush me, but it does irritate me and most of the time tempts me to target them Smile
