I'm incredibly disappointed in you guys. You griped for more choices, and then went with an earlier one anyway. Personally, I think A's awesome. Build for cards like Lurking Predators and have a field day with some more powerful spells like cruel ultimatum
A is just way too powerful, no matter the cost. put that on Echo Mage and cast ANY direct damage spell. Game. Or Timberwatch Elf or Wellwisher. I could build hundreds of decks around this card and they'd all be way too powerful.
D is interesting only in how it bounces between amazing and worthless. Cards like Bone Splinters and Abjure instantly become game-breaking with this card, but pretty much every other card that this would effect would become worthless, since the effect is based entirely on the additional cost, as Oculus said.
He is older than the multiverse itself. He has lived an infinite number of life times, each of an infinite number of years. He was here when the multiverse was born, and he will be here when it dies.
I agree that D's a pretty good fit, I just personally hate Zilean, the original character that art belongs to, with a burning passion. His art feels a bit overdone for this type of card, too.
Genzoman at Deviantart's rendition of Cronus, the Greek Titan of time. A bit too muscly for my tastes but the only thing I could find I thought might fit... Maybe a bit too obvious, though. Crop however you think best.
But Elspeth didn't need to use emblems either; there's nothing wrong with using them as a shortcut for 'rest of the game' abilities, especially on a planeswalker.
right, and having it as an emblem makes it a lot easier to understand, as well, if someone was confused by the original wording.
Jhoira of the Ghitu is far too much like D for me... her effect has absolutely nothing to do with her character in the story. And besides, they're actually pretty different. Jhoira's ability allows you, her controller, to suspend an expensive card for a very low cost if you so choose. D forces your opponent to wait a few turns before their cards come into play at the same cost. From the moment you pop that ult, your opponent basically casts no spells for three turns, giving you three turns in which the only thing your opponent can do is attack. Also, it ELIMINATES instant control cards, which I think is VERY POWERFUL for an ult, neh?
I still don't see the use of emblems. Stigma Lasher does fine without it.
Stigma Lasher's a pretty rare thing and it's also pretty simple. Having an emblem makes planeswalker ults easier to understand, because there was a lot of confusion, starting with elspeth, about whether or not the effect continued if the planeswalker left the field. Also, Venser's ult is stackable as an emblem, and it would be pretty difficult to make that readable as stackable without the use of an emblem.
ransack A) was printed before fateseal and scry were keyworded, and B) has text differences from scry and fateseal. scry is only yourself, and fateseal is only your opponent.
mindsculptor is either player, same as ransack, so he doesn't do either scry or fateseal either.
wizards is usually very careful to avoid printing a card with a keyword ability in a set without that keyword.
and yeah technically a spell can't be replaced by a replacement effect, but if you really want to get technical D could counter the spell and then suspend it.

oh wow i didn't know that...
i disagree, though. if he already exists, who are we to write his story?
