Ok, GenCon is coming up and I have been trying to figure out what to play. I've been looking at UWR Delver and BUG Delver. But I have been playing Death & Taxes. In addition to those, I can put together any Deathblade deck, White Stax, Dragon Stompy, ANT, Belcher, Miracles, RUG Delver, No Bant, Eva Green, Dead Guy Ale. With a bit of work I could even put together Merfolk, Affinity or Omnitell. There are a few other decks that I can't put together with the time and money available at this moment (buying a house right now) I have been leaning towards UWR Delver, I think it fits my play style and maybe I need to look more at Starcitys Indy open a little bit more. But open to ideas.

    Stax wrecks combo.

Personally I feel the reasons why prison decks don't get represented all that well is because there are more and more new players who find combo easier to play. Prison decks don't have a lot in the form of library manipulation so they can be very inconsistent. Especially when 1 counterspell can slow or shut your whole game plan down. The prices of good prison cards tend to be expensive as well. The other issue is that these decks take a lot of experience to pilot correctly and require a lot of mulling down to the correct hands. There is a lot of reasoning behind prison decks losing popularity. However they are great against combo. Turn 1 chalice at 1 or trinisphere is usually enough to get there on it's own.

I agree with this. I play stax, it is a solid deck. But newer players go for the faster flashier decks. Once the locks start to fall in place, it doesn't matter what they have in play, DRS or SFM it just takes experience to pilot the deck.

We mostly play Legacy, and at the store we play at, if you actually pay your way into the tournament you get a pack. My GF opened a pack and it had a voice in it. Not big standard players, she didn't realize it was a money card. I found it a few months later and put it in my trade binder and have been having a difficult time getting rid of it.

It really does seem like it is time for this deck to make a comeback. I am thinking of putting it back together and give it a whirle.

George Carlin said it best, hobbies cost money and interest are free. Magic is a hobby. It is just a fact of life, you can spend as much or as little as you want and can afford to. We have a wedding to pay for and the side effect of that is less money for Magic. Thakfully ther is Legacy, no need to add a lot of money to the decks.

Legacy isn't meant for newer players.

The truth is, if you play competitive standard for 2 years, most easily spend $3000+ which would build you the most expensive Legacy deck and you wouldn't have to deal with rotation every year or risk the ban-hammer of modern.

When you play Magic long enough, eventually you find yourself in Legacy. There are more demands on our life as we get older and its nice to know there is a format I can park myself in and come back to when things get hectic without fear of being completely obsolete when returning.

Get this straight. Legacy is better than Vintage. Vintage just didn't die because of card demand and most decks starting with the same 25 cards. It died because it was a busted format.

Legacy has access to a great history of magic cards, without the bustedness of the power 9. People love Legacy.

Last week on Wednesday, my local store, "The Friendly Troll" drew 32 players , The store put up a box of modern masters and 32 packs of dragon maze.

QFT. My soon to be wife mostly play Legacy because of the cost. And as life intrudes more into my gaming, I don't have the time or the money to keep adjusting to standard. We now look at each set for how it will play in Legacy. I have thought about Modern, but it hasn't gained any traction here. We have 8 to 24 player Legacy fire just about every Saturday.

Boring? I love it. They talk in depth about things and actually know what they are talking about

I didn't mean boring in the topics of discussion or information, I meant in presentation.

The Podcast is interesting, but at some points it does lean a little bit boaring. I can just assume that this is just a learning curve. I will agree that there was a little bit of an elitist sound, but again, that could be the curve. I do think you have some dialing in to do. But I will continue to listen and see what happens.

For the sake of the industry, thank goodness for this change. No longer do I feel compelled to join in with the angry mob. Finally, we can also compare xbox one with the PS4 based on exclusives and the price. The PS4 still wins it for me due to price and the absence of the kinect, but I'll have to admit that MS has a much better shot at winning me over now.

    QFT.

The on-line and no used games were deal breakers for me. The Kinect is a big negative, but not a deal breaker, but it is one for my wife to be. She has said no, unless MS makes a version that can run without the Kinect.

Consloe gaming, to me, feels like it is moving in the wrong direction, becoming more PC. The best think was always having your buddies in the room shareing Pizza and yelling at each other. Not over the internet were we are just faceless avatars and voices over a speaker. Or I am just getting old:(

    Quote from LandBoySteve
Ironically, it's easier for the older players to get into Legacy, on a playing level, because they essentially grew up with Legacy. I grew up playing Mana Drain (banned now) and even something as innocuous as Counterspell which isn't even Modern legal. I bought a Candelabra when it was $20 back in 1995. I got my duals when they were 12 bucks a pop. Magic WAS Legacy even before it officially BECAME Legacy.

Essentially, we're just stuck in a time capsule where occasionally, WotC throws us a bone from a new set. But this is the same game we played when no one would have dreamed that Mana Leak would have been called too powerful for Standard. When Stronghold came out we looked at this card and said "What a piece of crap." At least I did.

Point is, Legacy is a whole different mindset from the rest of Magic because it is essentially the history of Magic sans the P9 and a few other cards.

And to be honest, if Vintage was alive and thriving, THAT is the format I'd be playing because THAT is the epitome of what this game is.

But Legacy is a very close second and I'm more than pleased with it.

I just hope is sticks around for a long, long time.

I agree with this. This past weekend, my girlfriend was playing someone and told them that we mostly play Legacy. The next to her said, wow, that is expensive and I resoonded that it was cheaper for me then Standard.

I glad we have a weekly Legacy tournament. We usually draft for FNM and Legacy on Saturdays.

I really do think this set will have some crap cards in it, at least half. It will not all be solid gold. You need to keep that in mind so you won't be disappointed.

I'm guessing that i'm not the only one here who spent this weekend hitting PR's...did anyone else note this card to be outrageously rare?

We had 180+ at our midnight madness PR, and about 50 at store PR on Sunday. Between the two I saw exactly 2 of this insane red. Mythics were everywhere--I played against Tamiyo in decks both days and mythic angels were everywhere. I drew 2 Descent into Madness and Avacyn myself. But vexing devils were not to be found. Anyone else note a scew, or were we just in a dry pocket?

This card rocks. I pulled one in my sealed and a foil in prize packs. He pretty much is one red, deal four damage to target player. I think he is a good topdeck and good in your opening hand.

Audition and the Grudge jacked me up. Lost a few nights sleep over those. But I scare easily. I didn't get scared watching the exorcist, but the Night of the Living Dead got me as well.

Disney has designed itself to be for an entire family. they have a great buisness model. Parents bring kids there, kids grow and go to thrill parks with bigger and badder rides, kids have kids of their own and become parents, reapeat.

I myself cannot do the big coasters. Ceader Point is the premier coaster park in the country, but I couldn't do much there. So go and enjoy, we go at least once a month. I have milked my annual pass like you wouldn't beleive. We go for every special occasion. Go in October for the Food & Wine festival, it is expensive but great with great weather and low crowds.
