With Nahiri going around as four ofs in a lot of lists dreadbore is probably a really smart move. It fits in really nicely over creature only spot removal which can get blanked against the uwr control lists running Nahiri since the only creature they are running besides Ulamog is snapcaster, meaning that removal will probably be dead in the match up anyway.

As far as side boarding goes I never found the effectiveness behind running one of cards like izzet staticaster that can be blowouts when there is so small of a chance of finding it without tutors or coco-like cards that can dig and play cards with tutor like effectiveness. But I do see these lists doing well often. Can anyone tell me the logic and strategy of running a mostly singleton sideboard of diverse threats rather than multiple copies of cards that are much needed versus the harder matchups?

Does anybody have or can make a budget grixis control list? How would grixis control work with an initial $100 budget, and how much of it will survive rotation? I think that's what I want to play when I start playing again. Without the jaces is it playable and does it fall into my budget?

I haven't played magick since the original sendi kart rotated and have since sold off my collection of many modern staples that have in the last year and a half gone up in price dramatically (something I regret now) but I want to try getting back into standard by buying a competitive deck. I'm I bit too experienced in magick to feel satisfied at a tournament with a modified intro pack, so I was looking to buy singles to build a tier one or two deck. I enjoyed playing standard June when it was around and also u/w control variants. Interactivity and skill was always fun for me. What could I make for $100. If the deck is more expensive but playable at a cheaper build I'm willing to modify it as I go.

Lightning Bolt is a MUST HAVE for this deck. You are you using burn (burn is cards that deal direct damage to creatures and players) as a way to kill stuff and win the game, and Lightning Bolt is the BEST burn spell ever printed. For one mana you can shoot down almost any creature dropped duing the fist four turns and it can easily deal enough damage just to win right then and there. Replace them with the Annihilating Fires you have in there, because they are just better versions of them.

When ~ enters the battlefield you reveal a blue and black card from your hand.
T: add U or B to your mana pool

Could easily make color fixing geat in multi-color sets. I was also thinking of making it that you can reveal any number of cards and you must reveal a blue card and a black card or a blue/black cards but I wasn't sure how to word that. Any suggestions on how to word that and what you guys think the power level on this is?

Funny how no atheist have never apologized for the barbarism of Communism

Why should I apologize for something somebody did when I have no relation to them? Atheism is a lack of a belief not another belief system. Because this is a MTG forum I'll use the Ravnica Guilds as the example factions. You choose which guild you join but it is not necessary to be part of a guild and to support it's teachings. Now say the Golgari are responsible for horrible atrocities, it wouldn't be hard to hold at least some accountability to every member, because they chose to be part of that guild. Now if somebody without a guild does something horrible, it in no way means everybody without a guild should be held responsible for that person's action.

  • posted a message on Ideal Magic
I've always had problems with magic and power levels. So much of the fun is based on good card design and deck variance. It's never fun to have an awesomely fun to play archetype in a format where it just can't be competitive. Delver of Secrets, Jace, The Mind Sculptor, the Mirrodin swords, all warp the format and make it impossible to build new and creative decks while still being competitive enough to actually enjoy them. My idea here is to create a format from preexisting cards to make a format that is as balanced and leaves as much room as possible for new and exciting decks. Goblin Guide will pretty much always be better than Raging Goblin, but it throws off the flow of the game and lacks the simple and flavorful design that Raging Goblin has.

The ultimate goal is to make a format that plays well and keeps the flavor and fun of magic at it's highest, while keeping the frustration of imbalance at an absolute minumum.

Of course there is never one perfect format for everybody but this idea can be used to create different formats in this vein with different themes and focuses. You can design one around bringing out the best in multicolored cards, or one that is ideal for tribal decks.

So I was wondering what your thoughts are as the players. What cards are essential? How many cards is a good amount (standard is usualy around 1100)?

I was also speculating changing the maximum amount of a given card to 3 so as to force more variance in decks. Are there any oter slight rule changes that would help this goal?

    So, what do you think?

  • posted a message on [RTR] Return of the Guildmages
I really hope for new guildmages. The old ones really put out just what each guild was about. And as a side note, the old guildmages set the bar for what the average power level was at the time they came out, and gave each guild an uncommon creature that even without its abilities was decent at the time. Ravnica was a set with a lot of cycles, and that was great because it helped balance each guild, and I hope they keep lot's of cycles as a part of the new set.

  • posted a message on Can you please help me build a Blue Artifact deck?
THe memnites and Ornithopters aren't really too helpful in your current deck. They are made to come out turn 1 on decks that want EXTREMELY cheap artifacts and swarms of creatures early on. If you want to play artifacts aggresively http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=308778 is the deck you should be looking at. If you want to play out a normal length game and stil use your counterspells, then you need to make the deck more controlling.

Either way Thoughtcast is a great card for your deck. 1 mana to draw 2? Yes, 4 of them.

Akroma's Memorial feels a lot like Eldrazi Monument. I wasn't familiar with the Eldrazi Monument decks at the time. What did they do if they didn't draw Eldrazi Monument?

Seems like blue Grand Architect could make a similar sort of shell, if they can make some backup plans.

The monument was never a necessary card. You built an aggro shell and the Monuement worked in the same way as overun (but much better). As long as the Architect deck can build up a somewhat sizeable force consistently (3+ guys) than Akroma's Memorial will turn them into a killer army.

    Quote from Hallucination
So when someone tells me "without God their couldn't be morality", i tell them i don't agree. They'll often ask me "Well, then where does your morality come from", and i usually reply with "I do what i believe is right, and i base it off of what i would and wouldn't want someone to do to me". You would think the conversation would be ever by then, but everyone i talk to keeps heckling me and asking me the same questions with different words and expecting a different answer. So... is their something wrong with my answer, something that's left out leaving a hole of some sort in my theory of where my morality comes from? Anyone else deal with this problem often?

Ask them a hypothetical. Suggest they put themselves in your place. "If you weren't a religious person, would you then find it ok to steal or kil or anything else like that?" And ask them if when they were young, before they could have any notion of differentiating god from santa clause or any real understanding of religious texts, did you not understand right from wrong?

  • posted a message on Worst genre/subgenre of music ever
No genre is any better than another. I'm involved in the punk rock community around here, and im not shy to admit that it is my favorite genre of music. But the lines that define genres are blurry. I'm a devoute fan of The World/Inferno Friendship Society, with at its heart is a band made up of punks, but they feature a huge variety of instruments and blend genres like klezmar, jazz, theatre music, country, soul, and everything else they can. But a lot of punks reject them because they don't follow the tried and true methods of punk rock.

People should worry less about the genre. Bands should be open to trying new things instead of trying to appeal to what their audience expects. It's all about music not genres.
