The "core player" isn't going to crack packs just so that he can get an extra $4 card.

A sorcery for 1UR that says "Gain control of target nonland permanent." is already way too powerful.

I'm looking at two possibilities here:

    1UR
    +1: Careful Study
-2: "Gain control of target noncreature, nonland permanent." OR "Gain control of target artifact."

    Or maybe:

    3UR
    +1: Draw 3, discard 2.
-2: Gain control of target nonland permanent.

Even for 5 mana though, it could be way too powerful. A Confiscate that only costs 5 and leaves a planeswalker behind could be insane.

Bestow is kind of an afterthought on this card. In Constructed, it's a 2/1 for 1 that can't block most of the time. The card is just a little better as a topdeck later in the game, because it can make your opponent's creature unable to block or allow your creature to be a little bit bigger.

Actually, you can't put the counters onto the token. The target must be selected as the ability goes on the stack, so you'll have to put the counters onto something else.

I'd like to play in a Pro Tour or win an SCG Open. In some points in my Magic career, I feel a lot closer to doing this than in others. These days I haven't been playing as much, and because of that I haven't been playing as well. Hopefully I'll have more time to play this summer.

"Seeded" in this case means a specific set. There are 8 seeds for each color, and each of those seeds contains the same cards. That means that if your seeded pack has Eidolon of ****less Battles in it, the other 14 cards in your seeded pack will be exactly the same as everyone else who got an Eidolon as their rare.

Because Wizards seems to believe third party card-sellers are the lifeblood of magic, ignoring the fact that the price of playing is absurd:
1000$ for modern, 400 for standard and 1500$ upwards for legacy?

    It's CARDBOARD!!! Pieces of PAPER!

    In any case:
    IS the card a planeswalker?
    >If YES:
    >>Is it likely to be worth more than 20$ in the future?
    >>>If yes: Don't print it for DD
    >>>If no: Consider printing it for DD
    >If NO:
    >>Is it worth more than 5$?
    >>>If yes: Don't print it for DD
    >>>If no: Consider printing it for DD

People complain when a product has no value in it, and then they complain because they can't find any decks with True-Name Nemesis in them for under $75. WotC's solution is to just print most of their "fun" products as just that: fun. There will be a few cards in there that can hold value, but the purpose isn't supposed to be buying them with the intentions of making a profit.

I've had some fun playing this deck on Cockatrice, but can anyone tell me why I should prepare this deck for an upcoming SCG Open or PTQ? I've played a lot of Red Devotion over the past month or so, and I don't get how White Devotion is better. Essentially, we're playing with the same curve, but worse cards. Hammer is better than Spear, Dragon is better than Archangel, and Burning Tree Emissary, Ash Zealot, and Frostburn Weird are all better than any two drop that can come out of this deck. There's no haste or strong aggression to beat control or mono black. We don't easily get Chained to the Rocks or any easily overloaded Mizzium Mortars. I really just don't think I can justify playing this deck.

Ornitharch is pretty nutty. You're still getting stonewalled by Asp, but that's OK. I'd also be interested in the other uncommons and Retraction Helix.

I'm not really sure how this would work out. Let's say that there are 11 players left in an event. Is someone getting a bye this late in the event? And then when that does happen, we go down to 6 players, then 3. When we're at 3, is one player just getting a bye right to the finals?

Revoke Existence, Nullify, Bile Bight, Drown in Sorrow, and Unravel the AEther are all really strong control cards.

I plan on finishing FNM at my club early, like 11:00 or so. We'll stop at the all night place for a snack, then go to our store and trade until midnight. At that point, I'll tear open packs, build a Sealed pool, go 3-0-1 (hopefully) and then go out for breakfast. By the time this is over, I have to drive home to help my parents out with some stuff.

  • posted a message on Local stores that suck? (NO NAMES, please)
There are a few different stores that I go to.

The first is one near the house I grew up in. I visit when I go home, so I play FNM there 4 or 5 times a year. Things here are OK, but the guy who runs the events can be a little bit annoying. He's disrespectful to what others say, and cares more about himself than the customers. The last time I went there, he stopped the Standard FNM a round early because the draft was done and he wanted to go home.

The second one I go to is near where I am at school. This is a comic book store first and foremost, so they don't have any singles. They run drafts for FNM, but they're poorly run. It's always 4 rounds, and they give whoever is first in the standings something like 2/3 of a pack per head in credit, and second place gets half of that. Instead of having a top 8 or anything like that, they just award the prize to whoever is first in the standings. That means you could go 4-0 and not have any chance to play for the top prize. The store rarely has Constructed events, and when they do the prize payout is terrible. I once went to a $5 Modern event on a Saturday. I got second place and won a deck box. First place got less than half a pack per head. And they wonder why nobody ever shows up for their Constructed events.

The next closest one from school is pretty cutthroat. I actually prefer a competitive environment, but there are a ton of jerks there who can ruin the fun. If you play anything thats not tier one, you'll just get laughed at. If you win, you were just lucky. They used to sell boxes to the Magic club at the school I play at, but they raised their prices from $100 per box to $120, so we stopped going there. A friend of mine also had $50 in credit there, but they told him that they didn't have it in the system and that he'd have to talk with the manager. Probably not going back here for anything less than a PTQ.

The last store that I go to is only about 25 minutes away, but you have to pay a $13 toll on the bridge to Staten Island. I really like playing here. The players are pretty good, but also very nice. The store has tons of singles, and they run Magic events, as well as other types of events, almost every day of the week. The store is clean, and there is tons of room to play. They sell us boxes for $90, which makes us happy. If it weren't for the distance and price of the tolls, I'd go here all the time.

I don't really collect anything, but I have 8 Foundry Champions. During Gatecrash, I drafted 4 in 3 weeks. I just kept opening them.
