I considered that too, but I don't think we should be taking a sideboard card over a good main deck card. I don't think drawing too many Slime Moldings could be considered a problem because it fits at any point in the curve.
The thing is in rtr with no fliers it's not sideboard..
I think that I'd rather pick the herald here over the second slime, if we end up having 2-3 populate cards I would like to have a strong token as early as I can.
Also, it's not like we have an abundance of 3-drops.
Lastly, our deck isn't turning out as aggressive as we thought, and a dude that can block twice could be nice..
One of my buddies tooled everyone with a G/W populate deck last night. He pumped out a 3/3 token on turn two for only G/W. Then every turn after that he casted a populate spell and quickly ran me over with an army of 3/3s. He did the same thing to his opponents.
The two guys who split for first at my prerelease also had populate decks. I was hoping this deck would be easier to contain in draft, but no.:-/
3/3s that can be cast as early as turn two are a particular problem in this format due to the relative lack of removal and the fact that most of the creatures due not have a high toughness to profitably block . . . at least not until the late game.
The problem gets worse since populate decks can easily amass an army of 3/3s well before the late game.
The problem gets even worse than that because even if you can somehow survival an onslaught of 3/3s, you have an uncommon G/W that can dominate the lategame by pumping out an extra 3/3 (or greater) every turn.
So the deck has a strong early game, mid game, and late game.
How has w/G populate been doing at your LGS, and have you found effective ways or decks that trump the strategy?
I've only played the Prerelease, but I had an amazing WGu deck, that won me the prerelease.
That being said, from my experience on http://draft.bestiaire.org/ (I don't know how much that's worth though) you won't allways be able to make a strong case for populate even when you get enough early GW cards to convince you to go selesnya..
Yes, because we should have know we would get a first pickable Green card in the pack we had not seen yet. Our not being able to see into the future totally pwned us here.
No, I meant I thought we should have taken the spider last pick before I saw this booster, and I wasn't alone.
regardless of this booster I still think the spider was the better pick, and I did vote for him, but seeing this booster makes me sad we didn't take it..
i would go for the Indrik and maybe try play Rakdos/Golgari, otherwise the best card would sadly be dynacharge(though we could probably pick that up later)..
#5: The best commons are Dramatic Rescue, Hussar Patrol, Stab Wound (Azorius?), Voidwelder (Izzet/Azorius), Annihilating Fire (Izzet/Rakdos), Auger Spree (Rakdos), Stab Wound (Rakdos/Golgari), Towering Indrik (Golgari/Selesnya), Axebane Guardian (Golgari/Selesnya)
Are you talking about a weird splash(since azorius will detain the creature/attack with flying so it doesn't chump) or did you mean a different card and get mixed up?
I forgot to add that apart from the "knowing how to play" part there's a
"knowing how to lose" part.
I was playing settlers of catan with my 19 year old cousin and his 7 years old sister, and though she got a really good grasp on the game rules she just burst into 5 minutes of nonstop crying when I built a settlement on a junction she was building towards. A kid of that age usually lacks the maturity to understand that they're not the only ones who want to win and not every good play against them should be taken as a personal offense..
The AVR prerelease I attended had around 20 people, out of which maybe 15 were under 14, most of those kids didn't even speak english and couldn't read the cards.
I felt really bad playing against them..
my 1st match was against a 12-year-old who just asked his brother what colors had the best cards in his pool and then threw all of his green and wight cards with 20 lands to get a 50 card deck.
I got 2nd place, I just couldn't go to the same store for the release draft, I would have gotten a great pool of cards, but I just didn't have the heart for it..

How often would you manage to scavenge 2+ counters on to them? How good are they once you've succeeded? does the imp usually come late in a pack?
Boy, do I feel stupid..

Anyway, either guildmage or trick..
