Solemn Simulacrum maybe have been considered an EDH staple a few years ago, but people are starting to realize it is too slow and not really the value town it was formerly advertised as, especially compared to new cards that have been printed since its release..

This is especially true in competitive EDH lists. Format "staple" Solemn Simulacrum is nowhere to be seen. It's just too slow and not very good.

Yes there are a few cool masterpiece inventions, but a higher proportion of them are jank that no one really wants.

In comparison, many of the zendikar expeditions are played in several different decks and formats.

I believe that that's the point I made a few posts up.

I think we're in agreement about most points except the exact list of what's utter jank and what's only mostly jank Smile

lol you're right. My bad and my apologies for misreading!

The inventions like Sol Ring and Mana Crypt and Mana Vault will always be in high demand, but I can't see a lot of people ever wanting to pay much for a masterpiece Gearhulk or Solemn Simalcrum.

I want to buy more reserve list cards for less and not get chided for the square edges.

Yes. And making gold bordered cards tournament legal will not make these cards any cheaper. All it will do is dramatically increase the price of gold border cards.

Unbanning gold border cards is not going to lower the price of anything. Use common sense.

If unbanning gold borders didn't lower the prices of the originals then what's the problem? You might not want to buy a $500 CE black lotus that would be tourney legal but a hell of a lot of people certainly would and I bet they'd even pay $2k a week later as the prices go up.

If you aren't trying to lower the secondary market price, what's the point of making these already overpriced gold-bordered cards tournament legal?

We should acknowledge that "overpriced" is a relative term. We can't get hung up on whether an unbanned card falls into every person's budget...especially when it comes to the cards on the reserved list or power 9. Prices in regards to reserve list cards will behave differently than our typical card because of the fact that reserve list cards can't be reprinted. All we can do for these reserve list cards is increase availability.

The beauty of an unban is that the reprint policy is subverted. We understand this though, we've talked that subject to death. We also know that WOTC will not reprint.

We shouldn't worry so much about lowering the secondary market price with reseved list cards because that is requesting the impossible, that requires reprints. Reprinting isn't a realisic thing to expect.

What is realistic is increasing fluidity, increasing the exchange of ownership of reserve list cards. Unbanning can accomplish this.

Prices would have to adjust in the first few days and weeks for sure but that's about the best "price drop" we're going to get.

So in other words, you only want gold bordered cards unbanned because you already have gold bordered cards, and you want to play with power 9 and other cards in tournaments without having to pay for real ones.

LOL. If this happens, the price of gold bordered cards is going to shoot up. The demand for them will greatly increase, while nothing is going to happen to increase the supply.

They are already too expensive as it is.

I am just going to be real here.

Many people who play competitive magic are anti-social and are akward to interact with.

For many of these people, Magic is the only thing they have going for them. Many find it difficult to make friends due to their unpleasant personalities. The only value they gain from their life is beating down noobs at their LGS and coming in the top 64 at an SCG open every 2 years.

Outside of Magic, they have few friends and their lives are miserable. Many of these people have poor hygiene and don't take care of their appearance. Many happen to be overweight to the point where it hinders every aspect of their life. Magic is all they have keeping them going and they base their self worth around their weekly results at the LGS and PTQs.

There is nothing you can do to make these people behave less akwardly.

I have been in game stores in many different countries and played in a few of the bigger tournaments across the country. Every where you go, these types of people congregate around Magic.

I am not saying that all Magic players are like this. What I am saying is that everywhere there is a high amount of Magic players, there is always going to be a decent sized socially awkward butthurt contingent of people who tilt when they lose and brag smugly when they win. I have played Magic for 20 years so far and these types of people have always been around, since way back when when I started playing in Urza block when I was in elementary school.

Magic is a great game, for my money the best game ever made, but it is not perfect. If you want to play in these tournaments, you will just have to learn to accept these types of people for who and what they are, and find a way to not let it bother you.

It used to bother me a lot but now this kind of behavior amuses me and I find it entertaining. I usually act super polite to these people, and when they whine about all the cards in their deck they could have drawn against me, I usually humor them and tell them "you're right bro, I guess I just got lucky this game."

Just maintain the moral high ground. Don't let the crabs in the bucket drag you down to their level. That's all they want to do.

    Hi,

How does Eldrazi Mimic work with vehicles?

Let's say for example you played an Eldrazi Mimic on turn 2, and Skysovereign, Consul Flagship on turn 5 and it is currently turn 10. You crew your flagship with 3 servos to turn it in to a creature. Does Skysovereign becoming a creature count as a creature entering the battlefield, and does it trigger Mimic's ability?

I've moved 2 Sequestered Stash and replaced them with 1x Hanweir Battlements and 1x Grier Reach. I have not tested with this land replacement but I'm sure it'll be fine. I really like the idea of Sequestered Stash but I rarely use it. I use Inventor's fair a lot, it is too bad it's a legendary, but 2 seems to be the right number.

I liked Colossus a lot but he has always acted as a win more card in this deck. I want to make room for a Skysovereign, Consul Flagship. It seems really powerful.

In Aether Revolt, I am hoping to see a decent 2 mana rock, and another decent 1 drop artifact creature. The deck is in a good place right now but I want to keep making it better.

Gremlin is a flex spot. Sometimes he's really good. Sometimes he's just a 1/1 for one. I added 2 of them in to help increase the odds that I have a turn 1 play and also, because as much as I love Bushwhacker, I had so many games where I had 2 in my hand and not enough to cast both on the same turn. 2 has been working for me.

Smuggles and Orrery are great. They allow me to play less copies of cards and still have a decent chance of getting them when I need them!

Foundry Inspector is broken if you are allowed to untap with it.

He costs 5 mana and there were better 5 mana finishers than him.

There was no deck that was an appropriate fit for ol Sarkster. Play him in EDH. Nothing is stopping you, he is still cool.

Ugh I gave in and got 2 Chandras at preorder prices a week ago, I hope it doesn't sink that bad since it didn't see much play at the open, I hate to have to get singles at such expensive prices just because I like to be competitive at game day :/

By the end of the day it is going to be a $10-$20 card.

I don't think this deck is there. It effectively is a 4 card combo, due to the fact that you need either 2 copies of Panharmonicon or 2 copies of Deconcotion Module out for it to work.

You can copy either piece with Saheeli Rai but it would still be a 4 card combo. Also, it doesn't even win the game on the spot, unless you have two additional mana for Reckless Bushwhacker, making it effectively a 5 card combo.

I tried a bit to build this deck awhile ago. It is just too slow and vulnerable IMO. If you fill it with removal to try and survive, you don't get the combo out consistently enough. If you fill it with cantrips and card draw to filter through as soon as possible, you will probably just roll over to aggro before you even get two pieces out. Even if you do have the god draw turn 5 curve in to two deconcontion modules turns 2 and 4 turn 4 virtuoso, turn 5 panharmonicon, the virtuoso will have had to sit there for a turn and not die to removal, which is unlikely in current standard, especially considering that everyone knows its an infinite combo.

I suppose you can play Virtuoso or decoction module turn 5 in that situation and have some mana open to removal, but counters are horrible and conditional and overcosted this standard season (as they have been for years) so good luck with that.

I think the best way to do this would be some kind of thopter/tempo aggro with the possibility to go infinite as a Plan B that sometimes happens in Magical Christmas Land.

Has anyone considered Decoction Module > Whirler Virtuoso > Panharmonicon ?

    Endless thopters

You need two panharmonicons or two decoction modules for it to work.

You can have saheeli rai to copy one of them but even then it's a 4 card combo. Ideally you'd have enough mana open to reckless bushwhacker the same turn so the infinite thopters can attack. I tried to build a deck around this combo and I couldn't make it work. maybe someone else can.
