except control won't use it. control never used it. A midrange deck or two might crop up but is that such a bad thing? If anything midrange pushes control out of the meta.
control never used stoneforge mystic? What about caw blade in standard? what about all the control decks in legacy that use stoneforge mystic? Stoneforge mystic is an ideal control card, providing a cheap, fast clock that's easily protected and uses few slots in the deck.
the problem with this format is how non interactive it is. Even if there was a balanced meta, the games would get really old, really quickly. The 4 of rule makes it so that you can't plan what's going to happen every time, creating variation in the games. Without it, the game is pretty stupid IMO
The idea is pretty simple, start blowing up their lands on turn 3, then keep doing it with beast within and clone effects, frost titan continues the mana denial theme, beatdown for the win
I'm playing reanimator. It's my turn. My opponent has a relic of progenitus in play. I have a full graveyard. I play exhume, state that I am retaining priority, and then play entomb in response to exhume . He says that he wants to activate relic of progenitus ' second ability in response to exhume.
"Tormod's Crypt, or Other Graveyard-Sweeping Cards? Try to assemble Entomb plus Exhume, with something good already in the yard. Cast Exhume, which will probably lead to your opponent getting rid of your goodies. Now, once his graveyard hate has gone off, you receive priority before Exhume actually resolves. This gives you a window to cast Entomb and make the hate utterly irrelevant. This works because Exhume, different from other reanimation spells, doesn't target a creature; instead, lets both players choose one on resolution."
How is this different from what I was doing, exactly? (I'm not trying to argue, just understand)
This is a deck I came up with just thinking about cards in standard the other day, threw it together on MWS, played a couple test games, liked it, and then came here and found out that it's already a deck lol. Anyway here's what I built:
Yes, I realized right after I posted that Genesis Wave does in fact suck in this deck. I would probably replace it with something else, maybe summoning trap or wurmcoil engine. I run 3 mountains because Omnath hates them and the idea is to get all the mountains with cards like cultivate. I could probably use more (harrow is a favorite of mine)
As for why not Valakut: I don't like the deck. It's definitely better than this deck though.
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but a deadguy ale deck would likely wreck most non eternal format decks

15 Ancestral Recall
15 Mind's Desire
1 Brain Freeze
1 Tendrils of Agony
1 Empty the Warrens
I like something along these lines

problem is that's a 4 card combo that accomplishes something that you can do with less cards...
turn 1: dark ritual entomb exhume
or
turn 1 draw, discard iona
turn 2 exhume
or
turn 1 brainstorm
turn 2 entomb reanimate
etc
1 Acidic Slime
1 Phantasmal Image
1 Phyrexian Metamorph
1 Myr Superion
1 Spellskite
1 Glissa the Traitor
1 Perilous Myr
1 Frost Titan
1 Beast Within
1 Sphere of the Suns
1 Rampant Growth
The idea is pretty simple, start blowing up their lands on turn 3, then keep doing it with beast within and clone effects, frost titan continues the mana denial theme, beatdown for the win
I say it resolves like this: relic, entomb, exhume
he says it's: entomb, relic, exhume
Who is right?
edit: I think I was getting confused with the passage from this article: http://www.starcitygames.com/magic/vintage/22700_Eternal_Europe_Yawgmoths_Heir.html

4 Misty Rainforest
3 Verdant Catacombs
3 Arid Mesa
3 Glacial Fortress
3 Sunpetal Grove
3 Forest
3 Island
3 Plains
4 Lotus Cobra
4 Vengevine
4 Fauna Shaman
4 Stoneforge Mystic
4 Squadron Hawk
2 Loam Lion
2 Wurmcoil Engine
4 Jace, The Mind Sculptor
4 Mana Leak
1 Sword of Body and Mind
1 Sword of Feast and Famine
1 Basilisk Collar
I like this deck because almost every card is a big threat that needs to be dealt with, and many of the cards get you some card advantage.
As for why not Valakut: I don't like the deck. It's definitely better than this deck though.
21 Forest
4 Hellkite Charger
4 Sylvan Ranger
3 Omnath, Locus of Mana
4 Explore
3 Vines of Vastwood
4 Autumn's Veil
4 Bear Umbra
4 Genesis Wave
3 Comet Storm
Omnath with bear umbra is really really funny. Does the double task of generating huge amounts of mana while providing you with a huge creature.
This deck really wants harmonize or the sort. Too bad Soul's Majesty just rotated.
Vines of Vastwood and Autumn's Veil provide some protection for the rather fragile workings of the janky cards here.
