Is there any clear cut strategy against Infect? It really sucks that this deck is an auto loss against them. I sideboard in 2 Platinum Angel's, 3 Surgical Extractions, and the other 2 of 4 Spellskites in the 75 for this matchup and I still can't pull a win off.
Maindboard Spellskite, stall into a rapid tron, then Karn/O-Stone/Ugin/Ghost Quarter their creatures away.

Platinum Angel isn't all that great and Extraction isn't the greatest problem solver against non-combo.

@futhead_BitteMommy: Your deck is where we want to be right now. My MD is 2 cards off and my SB is slightly different but that is where we want to be. You should either be playing 21 lands MD or be playing a second Ghost Quarter in the SB with 2 Forests MD. I think you should just cut the MD Ugin for a second MD GQ, but you could also move the 3rd Pyroclasm to the board as well. If you are having trouble finding relevant cards to put in the SB then you should put more Relics in there. Like 3 posts up I wrote out a detailed explanation of why Relic is still a solid card and history + results would agree. Card is too versatile and I find it is really easy to just jam stuff in your SB like Torpor Orb and never end up using it or finding out it isn't effective. Stick with what is proven to work. Also play 4 Spellskite.

@Valick: SB in Nature's Claims, Skites, Sudden Shocks (single best card available against infect), any SB pyroclasms, also the second GQ if you don't play 2 MD. I SB out all my Wurmcoils because life is irrelevant and its too slow of a clock. I take out a single Karn, because you never want to see two. -2 Scrying. Often 2 Ostones because you don't want to get clogged with slow interaction, but ostone is super-good if you survive to get tron online.

Your deck post-board against infect should be nothing but interaction, removal, cantrips/tutors, and Eye + Emrakul because if you stall the game out long enough you will accumulate enough lands to blow them out with Eye first fetching Skites then emrakul. A majority of games with this strategy will come down to them poking you with a Blighted Agent for 1-2 a turn because you're holding up Spellskite/SS/bluffing and if they commit into your play they get setback dramatically. So they have to play the attrition game until you get to the point where you can emrakul then they are forced to all-in. If you draw a SS, you are holding up 1R until you are going to lose to their next poke or they go for a pump. They will bring in nature's claims of their own and probably Twisted image to deal with Spellskite because it beats their deck single-handedly. Smart players will not play into Pyroclasm unless they are holding Mutagenic Growth, but even if they do respond with a pump spell to save their dude it is one less they get to use to kill you.
Perfect, thank you for the advice I just did not have any answers for their deck but Sudden Shocks are a strong card, even against Affinity as well. I am going to cut Platinum Angel.

Ones that run Geist, Heirarch, Pridemage, and Nacatl's (killing it if I am on the play) unfortunately not hitting Goyf's without the Relic's anymore. It isn't an amazing answer against Zoo obviously but it slows them down game 1. Anything that can help me stabilize is a good thing and game 2 and 3 I can sideboard appropriately.

If I put Spellskite's back in the main deck I would put 1 Wurmcoil in the sideboard and cut one more Sphere - I might as well do that. A well timed Pyroclasm can be enough to stabilize against infect or forces them to remove a pump spell from their hand during my turn rather than them using it on their turn for lethal swings. That and it also hits Dryad Arbor if they are running it.

Pyroclasm is also good against Merfolk, Zoo, BW Tokens, and Affinity all of which see play here so I cannot justify removing it.

I have gone back to running G(r) Tron for Pyroclasm - this is my current list. The sideboard is an ever revolving door at this point. My meta is full of tier 1 only decks, infect, burn, affinity, bloom-titan, tron, the works. I just played 10 games of infect for practice and just got stomped in nearly all of them and since there is a lot of infect running around I have dedicated some sideboard specific hate in the form of Melira, Sylvok Outcast and Platinum Angel.

2 Nature's Claim main deck has helped immensely, very glad I made the choice to include them and also free up some room in the sideboard.

I just started playing this deck and have pretty much fallen in love with it. The thing I am amazed at most with my decklist is how much control I have in sculpting my hand and destroying my opponents. With 8 discard spells main and 8 ways to dig through my deck very fast (both Tezzerets and Thirst for Knowledge, which I run 21 artifacts for) I am never really lacking for an answer. This is a great toolbox deck.

One card I did not see anybody running in the last few pages of this thread is Necrogen Spellbomb which is surprisingly useful late game due to its instant speed discard and its cycling ability and since I run Academy Ruins it is recurrable in a pinch. I run the Emrakul/Proteus Staff combo as well since it only takes up two spots and is another excellent win condition and I can discard Emrakul to my own Spellbomb, Raven's Crime, and Trading Post if I ever draw him.

This is what I am running

I would say my sideboard is very well geared to deal with any deck in the meta right now from Burn to Tron with all the discard already main and the counterspells ready to be boarded in.

On a separate note Reality Shift is not an expected card and really catches people by surprise. Being able to exile something like a Wurmcoil Engine (Tron), Primeval Titan (Amulet), or a Pestermite and Deceiver Exarch nets a lot of value and generally in those matchups their manifested card is not going to be another creature waiting to be morphed up. Its utility and value is in it having no restrictions with the type of creature it can exile for 2 mana. Its ability to hit manlands once activated can really set someone back. Blue having a cheap exiling effect is a lot better than what people are making it out to be (I get to hear it isn't good all the time due to the 2/2 manifest and that it can be countered) but it really shines in a blue/black control shell where you do not have access to Combust or Path and should not be needing to splash for that. The only decks I would not board it in for would be creature heavy decks other than infect, ironically enough since as much early removal as possible is paramount to surviving that matchup, otherwise I just want to wipe the board generally with Damnation whereas Infect would get the full gambit of Damnation and Reality Shift. Now whether I keep it or not in the 75 really depends on more testing but all the people I heard say it is bad have not actually tested it to my own knowledge.

I wish I could fit Swan Song in my 75 but it hits less than Spell Pierce. I am curious to try Ugin but I like that Karn comes down a turn earlier and just takes control of the game.

All in all I am pretty happy with this deck list and will continue to run with it.

Ended up against all three rounds some of my worst matchups and even then Infect, Burn, and Bloom-Titan was being played as well. However the meta was completely different then before and there were a lot of unfamiliar players. Affinity game 1 lost 2-1, Zoo game 2 main decking Blood Moon lost 2-0, and game 3 was Splinter Twin with both games god hands for him and lost 2-0 on turn 4 both times because of my aggressive mulliganing into bad hands trying to find fast enough answers for Twin. The deck performed terribly and I was pretty disheartened by round 3. Never the less if this is to be the current meta I am up against either I am going to go back to Grove of the Burnwillow and Pyroclasm main or I am going to run something else entirely and shelf Tron for the time being.
How does MD Pyroclasm help any of these MUs other than Affinity? It does nothing against Zoo or Twin.

Perhaps try running MD Nature's Claim like the 7-3 PT list. Vs. Affinity it obviously has a ton of value, vs. Zoo it lets you gain life (if they're too fast), kill your Wurmcoils in response to PtE, and even kill Blood Moon. Vs. Splinter Twin it stops their combo unless they have Dispel/Negate up (which they likely won't, especially G1).

I'll even sing the praises of Spellskite again; it's an amazing blocker vs. Zoo, shuts down Ravager's Modular, and stops Twin completely dead. I think running some combination of the two can go a long way in this meta.

What's great is both of these cards are also good vs. Burn, and Infect, and Bloom Titan, so they have a lot of game in general.
I ended up running 3 Spellskite's main before the tournament happened and 4 Wurmcoil's and still got hosed. Pyroclasm helps against Infect and Affinity which there was a lot running around. Even Zoo early turns it still helps. Though I think maybe running some Nature's Claim main deck may be the answer I am looking for here because every deck I played had a relevant target game 1.

Another Monday Modern tournament tonight. This is the list I will be taking, will report back with results later. I have dropped the Explore's to make room for 4 Timely Reinforcements main deck which just continually prove to be a powerhouse and 2 Spellskite as I expect burn tonight after its recent burst in popularity.

I will just keep saying it; Ugin should have a home in this deck but every time I have tried to up the count to over 2 he becomes redundant, as a 1 of or 2 of he is perfect. I would not suggest playing with more.

Pithing Needle is a relatively new addition for me. It is for the off chance that I get paired up against the Bloom-Titan player who shows up every week. I like having the additional hate. In which case I will be naming Slayers' Stronghold and Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion depending on board state. I am just glad he does not play the Hive Mind win condition. And of course anything else needle is relevant against will work well for including the mirror which there is in my meta.

I have played quite a few test games against an experienced Bloom-Titan player and it just wrecks my face every time. I have won a total of two games out of many due to having exactly the right answers at exactly the right times. I dread going up against it in my meta one of our bad matchups even post-sideboard.

    Changes would look like this
-4 Razorverge Thicket +4 Temple Garden
    -2 Torpor Orb +1 Nature's Claim +1 Boil
-3 Relic of Progenitus +3 Leyline of Sanctity

Timely Reinforcements is completely main deckable and it saw play every game. With the hopeful inclusion of Shocklands it will almost always guarantee both effects as well.
Hrm... Timely Reinforcements main deck isn't a bad idea. Though I think I'd rather play Brushland than Temple Garden.
I am not sure which would be better yet. I am going to just play them both on Cockatrice and at my LGS in the meantime and see how it goes.

I just finished a Modern tournament tonight but albeit at a small store and came out 1st place with this list. I was not able to scrape together all the cards I needed for something more optimal but it did not make a huge impact on my game.

    Changes would look like this
-4 Razorverge Thicket +4 Temple Garden
    -2 Torpor Orb +1 Nature's Claim +1 Boil
-3 Relic of Progenitus +3 Leyline of Sanctity

Timely Reinforcements is completely main deckable and it saw play every game. With the hopeful inclusion of Shocklands next tournament it will almost always guarantee both effects as well.

    Matchups

    Round 1
    vs 8 Rack
    Game 1
Pretty much an autowin here, play out Karn, he can't do anything even with redirecting damage with Rack to Karn. But the guy also kept a one land hand so I am not sure what was up with that.
    Game 2
board in +3 Nature's Claim +3 Surgical Extraction
He plays a turn 2 Pack Rats and I drop a natural Karn turn 3 exiling a land pass turn he drops a land plays Pithing Needle naming Karn and drops an Ensnaring Bridge his following turn. I end up dropping two Wurmcoil's immediately after the bridge stalling out the game until I resolved an Ugin and won.

    1-0

    Round 2
    vs Burn splashing black
    Game 1
He draws into enough direct damage spells and Skullcrack's my life gain and wins from Boros Charm and Bolt.
    Game 2
Board in +3 Spellskites, +3 Nature's Claim, and +2 Surgical Extraction
Did not see any of these but drew into double Wurmcoil and double Timely Reinforcements and trounced him.
    Game 3
Stalled the game out with Wurmcoil's and lots of lifegain and he couldn't get there.

    2-0

    Round 3
    vs American Control
Essentially a long drawn out autoloss for the control player. I cannot remember the exact game but Remands and Mana Leaks do no not do a lot against me and I resolved a Timely Reinforcements twice in one game.

    3-0 and First Place.

This is the deck I have been testing to some great results and what I will be taking to my next modern tournament on Monday, probably running one Brushland in place of a Razorverge Thicket. I have found reason to keep Relic of Progenitus in the 75 especially if I run into some Dredge-Vine or random graveyard based decks otherwise they become easy choices for boarding out games 2 and 3. Timely Reinforcements has been allstars in saving me against burn and being able to run and cast Leyline of Sanctity against combo and burn has helped immensely games 2 and 3. I also had pointed out to me Platinum Angel while narrow can save me in aggro matchups like Merfolk, Affinity (not splashing red) or Infect and with 4 toughness is at least semi hard to remove and is a must answer. Not sure how I feel running it yet though as usually sideboarded in against me is artifact hate.

Otherwise I am huge fan of Timely Reinforcements, it is exactly what we need to stall out the opponent until you can slam something big turn 4. I am considering running this main deck but not sure what to cut for it.

Surgical Extraction is starting to see little to no play in my matches and I am considering cutting for something else but where it works it works very well.

In regards to sideboarding for any given match I will sideout any combination of Explore/Sphere/Relic/Sylvan and sometimes Sundering Titan to make room for the sideboard cards but everything else stays main.

My final thoughts on Ugin right now is that you should definitely be running him as a minimum 2 of but you should not be cutting Oblivion Stone for him.
I've always liked the idea of the white splash, but are Thickets really the right land? They completely shut you down from casting any of your 8-drops if you drop them on turn 4. Are Explores any good for you? I've never had luck with them - I feel like if you go the white route, you almost want to be MDing some number of Timelys.
Thickets are never really doing anything except for turns 1, 2, and 3 when they are most important, at least that is when I want them up in post-sideboard games. But there is those key moments where I would prefer a Brushland late game and am going to probably either go 3 Thickets and 1 Brushland or a 2/2 split. I have never put down a Thicket turn 4 though unless I end up being very unlucky it is always early game or late game.

Explore like I have said before is great for stabilizing against land hate via Sowing Salt, Tectonic Edge, Fulminator Mage, Spreading Seas and Ghost Quarter. It has won me games where I had no business winning because of those cards. And being that it replaces itself like our eggs while giving us an extra land drop is pretty important with the more top heavy curve that I am running.

I just am not sure what to cut in the main for Timely unless the meta ends up being very little to do with the graveyard in which case I can find 2 spots in place of Relic.

I have found myself dropping red completely in favor of this list. Naturally I have become weaker to combo but much much stronger against aggro and burn decks. Some sideboard suggestions for combo hate would be appreciated. In another development I have found Explore is amazing for negating land destruction and land hate which was not exactly what I was planning on using it for but it has saved me many times. For example being Spreading Seas'd by a Merfolk player hurts nowhere nearly as bad with Explores ramping you into a natural Oblivion Stone. And up against opposing Tectonic Edges, Fulminator Mages and Ghost Quarters they have wasted their land drop or creature. And Explore is more then enough to stabilize even after being hit by a Sowing Salt or Tec-Edge + Surgical Extraction. Explore also helps me ramp into very early (turn 3) Sundering Titan and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon which both have been GG's every time I have played them now.

The sideboard choices are iffy in that I am not so sure I need Spellskite while also running Timely Reinforcements (which have been awesome for saving me very early game). If anything I could probably replace the Skites with some combo hate even 2 Slaughter Games and 1 Grove of the Burnwillow.

All in all I really do not miss Pyroclasm the only red card I was playing alongside Slaughter Games.

I may also try to find space for an Ulamog, The Infinite Gyre in sideboard for mirror matches.
