I feel like this spell should at least draw 3 cards since the floor is a 3/3. At 5 mana this spell would've been fine but I don't know maybe I'm asking too much.
Excuse me? Risk Factor is a TERRIBLE card, in a control deck. Which, correct me if i'm wrong this is a control thread is it not? By all means however, play it and good decks will simply beat you. I'm just letting you know so you can wrap your head around playing cards that actually fit a deck or an archtype for that matter. Or are you the type of player that plays Night of Souls' Betrayal in a BW Token deck? sheesh....
You're right my wizard! Risk Factor blows in control and also right that this was deemed a control thread so your point is valid. We were just talking about a counter-burn version that looks sweet!
So can you guys help me out here. Help pull the wool away from my eyes. Please explain to me why on earth you’d play a card like Risk Factor in a control deck? I understand in a burn but not in a deck like this. Especially when this deck has access to Chemister’s Insight. I mean, imo Browbeat was a pretty decent card and it saw nearly no play. This isn’t MUCH different and yes, it IS better but doesn’t belong in a non burn control deck.
I was responding to this y'all. I been following the thread for weeks.
I was doing a little goldfishing with the counter-burn dec I posted on the first page of this thread and had so much fun! You basically did nothing but counter and draw for the first few turns. Throw in a Thought Erasure to disrupt their tempo and finish the game within a couple turns.
With Mission Briefing can't you cast Banefire from your yard and still be able to pay the X cost? I'm pretty sure you can and if so that's awesome! Counter-burn ftw 🤓
I started off with Nicol Bolas, the Ravenger in my list but after much thought I decided against it. Turning on an opponents removal was not where I wanna be. Having them in the Sideboard may become a thing.
So if we're going all in on the counter-burn plan then 4 Ionize is a must! They're great alongside Risk Factor since they up the chance of drawing 3.
I like the 2/1 split of Banefire and Fight with Fire and 4 Lightning Strike is just money 💰
I haven't worked out the manabase yet but this is what I plan to open the rotation with. I'm going to test the 1 of's in Price of Fame and Lava Coil just to see how they play out but they might turn into Mission Briefing
Mr. Rotten is right! Check out Top Deck Productions testing Risk Factor in its Jeskai build and you'll see. I knew the card was good when I saw that it included the jump-start ability but I was completely blown away seeing how it played out. Seriously, watch the video.
Jammed a bunch of games in xMage last night. Have been really impressed with Search for Azcanta. You don't have to drop it turn 2 to get a ton of value out of it. Drop it on 5, gives you mana to cast Approach on 6 and digs for it on turn 7. Just my 2 cents. But agree, nothing right now should an auto include.
This! On so many levels this! Casting Approach of the Second Sun a turn early is money! Now you don't have to save a Supreme Will for after you cast Suns but can use it to find answers.
Also Perilous Voyage isn't good. You're gonna be saving it for cmc 2 dudes just to get to scry?!?!? As Deion Sanders would say "C'mon man" (you'll get it if you watch football)
The deck has Glimmer of Genius and now Opt as well as Supreme Will, Censor, Cast Out to dig.
The combo Jeleva deck might be fun but I'm going the control route because it suites my playstyle
But if you're going to go combo I wouldn't try to cast Jeleva turn 3 via a signet. What if you exile a piece!!!
I've been keeping an eye on Jeleva and have read through a lot of posts to see what people thought and here are some things I've found.
Everyone agrees that she should have haste so we should include cards like Anger and Urabrask the Hidden.
It seems like mulitple attack steps are going to really push this deck over the top so maybe cards like Aggravated Assault and Seize the Day can work.
I envision a control deck that seeks to have a decent board state before casting Jeleva and going nuts. Since we'll have haste and mulitple attack steps some really good fatties should be included.
This card is sick!

3 Sinister Sabotage
4 Lightning Strike
3 Vraska's Contempt
2 Banefire
1 Fight with Fire
3 Chemister's Insight
3 Mission Briefing
3 Search for Azcanta

Anyway, I'm going to add B to my dec to include cards like Duress and Doomfall to protect my combo after sideboard. Not to mention cards like Vraska's Contempt, Lost Legacy, Gifted Aetherborn just to name a few.
How do you guys feel Doomfall as a fail safe alongside Freebooter
