Yet to test Jace, Vryn's Prodigy. I must admit though, it looks bad on paper to me simply because I don't run too many instants or sorceries that aren't counter spells. Will definitely give it a go when I can get my hands on a copy though.
How many Etched Champion is everyone running? I'm running 2 in the main and 1 in the sideboard. I've seen alot of people run the full 4 between main and side but I hate getting into a situation where I draw 2 copies in my opening hand.
Hey guys,
Looking to get back into Modern and Magic in general after a long break. Curious to know why Spellskite is no longer a staple now given that the format is still quite removal and bolt heavy. Thanks!
Then of course there's Mind over matter which is instant win with Azami out and Laboratory maniac in your deck depending on how cut throat you want to be!
@MrM0nd4y Why not bring in Kommand against Burn on the play? I feel as though more often than not it will kill a creature and discard a burn spell due to the low land count that burn players typically run.
I'm currently storing my double sleeved EDH decks in Dragonshield Gaming Boxes, but have found them to come apart easily at times. Looking for a replacement storage option that is cheap, simple and reliable (aside from the Ultra Pro Pro-deck box). I was very interested in the Legion Icon Deck boxes but was very disappointed when I found they didn't store 100 double sleeved cards
I'm currently in the process of making Grixis Twin as my secondary modern deck as it seems fun and resilient in most metas. I would very much appreciate it if somebody was able to direct me to a rough sideboard guide to get started.
@furi, if they play stony silence on turn 2 or kataki turn 2, basically that game you are screwed. I don't deal with it. few way I go about it is I play manland and try to use ravager to get by kataki. tempered steel version runs little activated ability other than the mana source and plating. white decks usually play path to exile, therefore you just need a glimmervoid and pressure them to pah your critter for a plain to get the double white for tempered steel. turn 2 stony silence is usually loss, but we can reduce the effectiveness of stony silence on our deck. stony silence is only devastating on turn 2. after turn 4, stony silence lose its impact. boarding wear//tesr seldom helps. spell pierce and thoughtseize are more effective to prevent the turn 2 stony silence. I hope my experience helps you in dealing with stony silence.
I find that Wear//tear is a terrible way to deal with Stony silence since you MUST have a glimmervoid to be able to cast it once Stony silence comes down, which to me sounds far too conditional. A combination of Thoughtseize and Spell Pierce are probably a better way to deal with a artifact hate filled meta.
I recently brought Affinity to a 30+ win a box event and got top 4, will write up a very brief report if people are interested.
How are you guys dealing with Stony Silence and Kataki, War's Wage from the sideboard in games 2 and 3. Whenever I play against any white deck the opponent will land one of these on turn 2 and I feel unable to do anything unless I draw Thoughtseize in my opening hand, which becomes dead otherwise since as soon as Stony Silence comes down the only access to coloured mana we have is a singleton Island and Glimmervoid. More importantly, I have never won a single game where both these cards come down... it just seems impossible to win if your opponent is bent on boarding in 5-6 hate cards against you.
+ Paradox Engine
+ Mana Drain
+ Aphetto Alchemist
- Stifle
- Deprive
- Sage of Epityr

There are a few key wizards that are relatively cheap to obtain that you might consider adding: Patron Wizard, Voidmage Prodigy, Glen Elendra Archmage and Diviner's Want (Yes you can tap it to draw with Azami!)
Other cards such as Cyclonic Rift, Extraplanar Lens, Swan song and Meekstone represent very good value.
