Just saw this card for the first time . . . and I have to say, Wizards of the Coast, you are awesome!!! toot

The flavor text on Guardians of Meletis is excellent, and *perfect* for a Greek-themed set. I love it! And I also think it's very cool that MTG writer/designer Doug Beyer is officially acknowledging it on his blog!

Phenax in Greek means "impostor" or "cheat" or "deception" . . . sounds like Phenax is the UB god.

This means that Athreos, the god who guides the souls of the dead, must be BW (as Pharika is most likely GB after that Uncharted Realms story).

Which means we have names now for everyone except the RG god, who we can assume is based on Dionysos/Bacchus . . . (unless Xenagos the Planeswalker does indeed become/replace the RG god . . .

And . . . it looks like we just got the name of the UG god/goddess - Kruphix. Based on the abilities and flavor text of Prophet of Kruphix, I'm guessing this deity is a goddess of time. Based on the visual, though (which resembles one of the Graces, albeit with six arms), Kruphix could still be partially based on Aphrodite? Maybe a goddess of time AND beauty?

Part 3 of the Planeswalker's Guide to Theros gives us another god's name: Athreos - who guides the dead. So I'm guessing this is the god based on Hermes (guide of souls) and that he's either WB or BU.

Great topic! Here are my guesses based on what we know so far . . .

Karametra is definitely GW and appears to be a combination of Demeter (Goddess of Agriculture) and Hestia (Goddess of the Hearth).

Mogis will most likely be RB and based on Ares, the God of War.

Iroas, his twin, will likely be RW and is the warrior god of honor (which sounds more like the Roman Mars than the Greek Ares actually).

Keranos looks like a UR god of lightning based on Zeus.

Ephara . . . she rescued Meletis from a tyrant, so I'm guessing she'll be UW and possibly be based on Athena (who is the patron goddess of Athens, the city Meletis is based on)?

Pharika is married to Erebos, so I'm guessing she might be based on Persephone? This would likely make her either BW or BG.

    That leaves . . .
    RG - I'm also totally expecting a Dionysos-based god of wine/revelry connected to the Satyrs . . .

UB - Maybe a trickster/rogue god based on Hermes? Or a goddess based on Hekate (goddess of witchcraft) or Hera (who was a master of deception)?

UG - Perhaps a goddess based on Aphrodite? (She was a goddess of fertility/life, which is very G, and she rose from the sea which is U). If not, maybe a river-god of some kind?

WB - If not Pharika/Persephone, maybe a goddess based on Hera? (I *really* want to see a goddess based on Hera!)

BG - If not Pharika/Persephone, maybe someone based on Hekate (maybe using the art from that gorgon-esque goddess they revealed at PAX) or perhaps someone based on Pan?

Those are my two cents . . .

Am I the only one who finds it strange that there are no blue wizards in M10? I'm not complaining (and no, I'm not clamoring for Fugitive Wizard[/CARD] to return) - I just think it's odd that one of blue's most iconic creature types/classes only shows up in black, white, and red. Especially since creature classes are so flavorful, and they're obviously pushing white soldiers, green druids, etc.
