Makes sense, but once you can get all the fetchlands, Ponder and Brainstorm are just better than the other 2, at least Serum Visions, it's awful imo. You trade card/deck quality with game speed, and since you don't have Sensei's Divining Top on the list it isn't going to be that much worse.
Seems sweet, just a few questions. 1) Did you think about having equal numbers for each spot on the curve across the colors (ex 10 1-drops in each color)? 2) Cards like Preordain and Serum Visions, did you forget about Ponder and Brainstorm or did you just not want to deal with them (ie shuffling time). And 3) You titled this a "Powered" cube but I do not see any "Power" cards, am I missing something? Thanks and great job with the Eh Team.
Too bad Karn Liberated doesn't have the abilities that I'd as easily relate to Obi Wan. Ooh! Maybe Karn could be like General Grievous, he's buff and can take other people's things.
Oh yeah, I totally forgot about Vindicate, it's a shoe-in once I pick one up. I agree with disk being a better fit for the sarlacc, but since Mark Tedin was at the GP and he's a huge Star Wars fan, I thought it would be a good opportunity. Korlash, Heir to Blackblade isn't a bad Idea for Vader, but I really like Ob Nixilis, the Fallen because he has that sort of evil presence about him which comes through with the landfall ability and he can still hit for a ton once in a while. I like the idea of Bronze Bombshell as 3-CPO it's got some good flavor, but I also kinda like Solemn Simulacrum (M12 art) too. It may not be as flavorful, but it's a bit better card to have in the deck anyways.
Yeah, when going into the expanded stuff, it really opens up. The reason I thought of Thrawn was because he looks quite like Anowan. But I want to keep my build more classic. After some more thinking, Luke could be Venser, Shaper Savant or something, seems pretty good.
Hello everyone, I've decided to try and put together a deck based around Star Wars. The inspiration started when I was at GP Seattle/Tacoma where I got some cards altered...
My friends and I got brainstorming and here are the cards I've nailed down so far.
I'm having a really hard time coming up with a good Luke Skywalker and C-3PO. I would prefer to keep to the original trilogy but I am open to expanding into the prequels and the extended universe. When we go into that territory I have come up with stuff like... Avatar of Woe or Mirri the Cursed (Darth Maul) Angel of Despair or Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief (Mara Jade) Anowon, the Ruin Sage (Thrawn) Diabolic Tutor (Palpatine over Anakin's shoulder)
other swords of X and Y (more lightsabers)
various planeswalkers (members of the Jedi Council)
As it turns out, most of the characters have ended up as legendary creatures which is cool. I don't have to make all 100 cards Star Wars related since I'll want to throw in whatever staples and other good cards I can anyway.
So with this, I ask for any cool suggestions you guys can come up with.
Thanks!
I see the argument for the lack of fetches. But I like that little bit of thinning. From my experience, I don't like playing combat tricks/pump spells unless they give some evasion or are just crazy good.
I used to play a UBG list that ran 13 different fetchlands, so Groundswell and Adventuring Gear were bonkers. As for evasion, like I said before, Distortion Strike is where it's at. That's why I did well with that deck.
But now that I'm running mono black, I want to just keep laying on the pressure instead of trying to just get there with one pumped guy. It also makes you more resilient to spot removal. Mass removal is a problem still, but then again, "BB: Regenerate Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon"
I don't really like the UB list as it is. I would want to run some number of Jace, the Mind Sculptor since you'd be blue and all. Also, Distortion Strike is so back-breakingly good for infect.
I would definitely play Go for the Throat over Doom Blade. The only reason I wasn't was because I wanted faction it up. I would maybe put some blades in the board if you play against an artifact heavy deck. Smother and Disfigure are also really good for the mirror.
Round 1 was vs UR Pyromancer Ascension. I went 2-0 with a constant stream of hand hate, he couldn't do much.
Round 2 was vs my buddy that I later split with who was playing Chapin's UBR Tezzeret list with a few changes to make it Mirran. I went 2-1, game 1 was pretty close, but he made a misplay of not Tectonic Edge'ing my Inkmoth Nexus when I chumped a Steel Hellkite which then allowed me to finish him off with a Phyrexian Vatmother the following turn. Game 2 was him drawing every removal spell known to man and then just beating me down with Myr Battlesphere. Game 3 he drew super bad and had a serious lack of red mana.
Round 3 was vs Caw-Blade, he never drew a single planeswalker, and I was able to race Squadron Hawks with a constant stream of 4 drops and Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon. Unfortunately, I don't remember if I went 2-0 or 2-1.
Round 4 was vs a GR Eldrazi ramp / Raid Bombardment thing. I went 2-1. I lost game 2 when he ended up with tons of dudes and multiple Goblin Bushwacker's. But the other games weren't that close because I was able to slow him down with a bunch of Inquisition of Kozilek's and killing his ramp dudes.
Round 5 (Round 1 of top 4) was vs my other buddy who was running a boros list we put together earlier that morning. Again, Duress and Inquisition of Kozilek really ruin the decks that run swords. Keeping him off Sword of Feast and Famine and sticking multiple Phyrexian Crusader's made it pretty one sided. I went 2-0.
Round 6 (finals) was vs my buddy with the Tezz list but since we wanted to head out, we drew and split. The funny thing is that we did almost the same thing during the previous game-day where I was running a all-in-infect with tons of fetches and Adventuring Gear and Distortion Strike and he was running the WW Quest deck.
I ran a mono black list for game day. Unfortunately, it wasn't a very large showing and I was the only one running with the phyrexian faction, but I still went 5-0-1 only drawing in the finals with my buddy because we wanted to go home.
I was expecting a larger turnout and a larger amount of caw-blade, which is why I have the 4 of Virulent Wound thinking that it would be cute, but I never used them because as it turned out, I didn't care that much about the poison counter they got.
The MVP of the day was Inquisition of Kozilek by far, I always sided in the 4th every game, usually taking out Ichor Rats. It and Duress make games against decks that use swords much much easier. You can either turn 1 it to get rid of a Stoneforge Mystic, or wait until they tutor for a sword and then take it away from them, and they'll be unable to really do anything about it since you'll more than likely have the 2 more mana if they try and use Spell Pierce.

That seems super sexy, I'm gonna have to try that.
