Feb 4, 2014KnickM posted a message on Launch Giveaway!I know that it's an absurdly bad card, but I think that my favorite card is still Gabriel Angelfire. I remember when I first got one for my GW deck, before it was reprinted in Chronicles. I had a choice - for $17 I could get either Gabriel or the Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale. I was advised by the store owner to get the Tabernacle, and I kind of wish I'd followed that advice now, but I bought Gabriel and shuffled him into my 65 (60 card deck? What's that?). I don't know that I drew him in more than a handful of games, but I really liked playing with a Legend.Posted in: Announcements

You're looking at foil, not market foil. It probably sold out (there are only two listings at the time of this writing), and someone posted one at a ludicrous price.

This kind of thing happens all the time.
Hey there Onyxstorm, welcome to MTGS. Artist proof prices are pretty subjective. Academy is an objectively powerful card that is very popular, so I'd put it somewhere in the $25-$50 range. That's just a guess, though - I think that I paid about $20 for my copy, but that was a while ago.
The legality will change when the set releases.
Misthollow Griffin and Eternal Scourge are looking less and less goofy. It already combos with Food Chain in Legacy - if Food Chain gets reprinted into Modern, those will definitely spike.
Discuss.
They could taper down the printing a bit. But, like you said, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Cheap Standard boxes means cheap Standard singles, which means a lower bar to enter Standard. Seems like the correct move on their part - I for one LIKE lower-EV boxes.
I think that asking at your LGS is the best way to make this happen. You don't even have to ask the store owner - you can just walk around with a box with a sign on it. "Building budget decks. Please donate bulk!" I guarantee that you'll get some people giving you their bulk for free.
If you're near the location of a
Grand PrixMagicFest, there are donation boxes around the hall and you can just rifle through them and take whatever you'd like.
