There have been numerous pros such as LSV and some others from channel fireball that admit the card, from a gameplay perspective, should be banned. However, Wizards has more to take in than just gameplay, like how much players will rage after the ban and what they would lose in sales.
People compare Jace to BBE, but there are some problems there:
1)I don't recall BBE having a full 4 in every Top 8 deck ever. I could be wrong.
2)BBE was a twin color card, meaning it only saw play in Jund, Naya, and crazy 4-5color concoctions.
3)BBE was an uncommon.
4)BBE was a creature.
Jace is a format warping Mythic Rare. I don't mind planewalkers in general, but the way the format stands it is just way too hard to deal with Planeswalker based decks. I personally think Planeswalker design should be limited to narrow yet powerful cards like Koth and Tezzeret, but thats just me.
I've been a U/B control player since Rotation, and I have a friend who has been playing U/W Control (real control, not Caw-Blade) since M11. Both of us are planning on dedicating 2-3 slots for this card.
-Against Valakut, Tec-Edge their Valakut and now it's just a deck with mana and beaters. [
-Also against Valakut, counter Prime Time, let them cast summoning trap, and in response hit all the Green Titans in the deck, not only getting rid of their biggest threat but also greatly increasing the chances of them whiffing on the trap.
-Against Caw-Blade, U/B's biggest problem is that Hawks are incredibly difficult to stop from resolving, and once it's resolved they have creatures for the rest of the game. But now if you kill one Hawk, you can hit the rest from their hand. It's technically still a 2-for-1 in their favor, but I think it greatly increases our matchup.
-Against Quest, IoK or duress a quest turn one, then pay two life to transform them into a really clunky WW aggro deck that scoops to a board sweeper.
-Graveyard hate is nice against Bloodghast/Vengevine, but it was originally so niche that it wasn't worth dedicating spots to (if they were REALLY that big a deal, just switch to playing Valakut instead and smash them). But obviously, this has other uses outside of this matchup.
It's not that good against aggro aside from Vamps/VV, and it's not amazing against control/RUG, but that's why it's not a mainboard card. Definitely worth the slots.
The only problem playing Caw-Blade is you are gonna get a ton of Mirror Matches. Mirror matches are just a coin flip, he gets the deck running first wins. The last 4 tcgplayer events Caw-Blade did not win, so you are wrong sir. That is not the only ones, there are others. Caw-Blade wins so much because everyone and there brother plays the damned deck. Jund was the same way, Jund would be like 40% of the tournaments so naturally it stood a better chance of winning. Sure Caw-Blade is a really good deck but it can be beat.
you can look at the match win percentages buddy. caw blade is the best deck by far.
The idea of a megastore losing money by preselling something at a reasonable price is pretty misleading. They never pay more than the cost of a booster pack for any given mythic rare at presale. Every Jace they bought back at a higher price was subsequently resold at an even higher price. There is no actual "lost" money here. Just potential profit they missed out on.
If you're saying they don't want to miss out on potential profit, that's one thing. But I don't think "losing money" is at all an accurate description of the business model at work here.
DoDG is TERRIBLE. And that was BEFORE they printed Go For The Throat. Or Plummet.
I'm sure you'll see fun builds with Deaths Shadow, everyone in the universe seems intent of trying to find a way to break it, but I doubt it will ever be anything more than SUPER casual fodder.
actuallllllllllly DoDG was a fine vampire sideboard card a few months back.
this part is incorrect.
bad card is bad
Spam infraction.
