Don't misunderstand me. I am all for them reprinting all 10 fetches, but I don't think that they will do it until RTR rotates out of standard. After that I am sure that they most certainly will be reprinted. It makes no sense for Wizards not to reprint them. Both from a game play perspective and a financial one. I have almost an entire playset of all the fetches. In case anyone is interested. I just don't treat my hobbies as investments.
I would like to point out that this was also stated in the article:
"Again, I believe the lands we have in place for Theros block are wonderful, but they do not offer the same level of ease and power with three-color mana bases as the shockland/M10-dual-land combination."
This means that the duals in Theros will not be Fetch lands. Just so everyone is clear on this.
When people say stuff like this, I imagine them sipping an appletini and tipping their fedora back while they ******** to pony porn, jesus christ dude, you sound like a ****ing virgin.
WOW! Dude calm down, if it's not reprinted this set just wait it will be soon.
I can't wait for this thread to blow up when Thoughtseize is confirmed out. It's obviously not in the set. The rage and disappointment will be hilarious.
It's going to be funny if #118 is the last card spoiled and it's not Thoughtseize
OK, just kidding. I don't have my playset, and I'm not going to spend $200+ on acquiring one. The thing is that if Wizards doesn't reprint it now it will most certainly get reprinted in the next few sets. Modern Masters proves this. It was Wizards saying that they plan on reprinting cards that see tournament play. Anyone is is observant can see that this is there plan.
Well the mothership confirmed some new stuff for us last night. They confirmed our suspicion that the returning mechanic is 'slivers'. So I decided to take a look at the name/# crunch and do some crunching of my own.
According the the name/# crunch, the only slot remaining for Thoughtseize is #118. Right between 'Syphon Sliver' and 'Undead Minotaur.' While this slot is capable of being filled by a new card, I wanted to look at reprints that can fit in that position.
I did a search of modern-legal black spells. My search returned 46 cards, from 'Tainted Strike' to 'Undead Leotau'.
I then began applying additional filters to rule out cards. First I removed all cards that made use of a mechanic not present in M14. I then removed cards that made their initial debut in either INN block or RtR block. Finally I removed cards that felt unique to a plane since they are unlikely to appear on their own (for example, Kamigawa's Kami and Mirrodin's Nim). I left in cards that merely referenced a location. Shimian Specter showed that even obscure locations could be referenced in a core set.
I was left with 14 cards that passed those filters, but some of them would be extremely odd choices IMO.
Listed alphabetically:
1: Taste of Blood: This passed my filters because it did not include bloodthirst. I feel that its chances are poor because its primary purpose was to enable bloodthirst.
2: Temporal Extortion: This inclusion would certainly blindside everyone...but I doubt that black would get this effect in a core set.
3: Tendrils of Corruption: A classic piece of black removal. IMO, one of Thoughtseize's primary competitors for this slot.
4: Terror: Very similar to doom blade, but we see similar counterspells and burn spells all the time. IMO the 'may not be regenerated' clause is a better argument for its exclusion from a core set....but its inclusion is not impossible.
5: Thought Gorger: Another card that would come out of left field to fill this slot.
6: Thoughtpicker witch: I suppose this could be a throwback to ravnica just like m13 had some INN themed cards.
7: Thoughtseize: We all know this card. What is this now? Page 41? We've heard the speculation for and against. IMO TS is one of the cards most likely to fill this slot.
8: Three Tragedies: This passed my filters, but the name strikes me as odd. I'm not familiar with Eastern lore, does 'Three Tragedies' have some significance? I really don't expect this card to appear.
9: Thrull Surgeon: Well this showed up in 10th edition and we just had some thrulls in ravnica. I suppose this guy could get reprinted with Orzhov art, but I'm not holding my breath.
10: Tormented Soul: This guy has shown up for the last two core sets. Initially he helped enable bloodthirst. On his second printing, he was a good candidate to pump with exalted. He might remain as a generic black weenie, but I'm not expecting him to stick around.
11: Torture: We've seen cards with +1/+1 counters in M14 already and I am under the impression that wotc doesn't like mixing -1/-1 counters with +1/+1 counters in the same set. I don't expect this guy to show up.
12: Treacherous Urge: This could fit. I don't think anyone wants it, but it doesn't scream "I can't fit in a core set" to me. I guess it might be a little 'red', but nothing too extreme.
13: Tresserhorn skyknight: References tresserhorn, but Shimian Specter references shimia. That anti-first strike ability seems like it would be weird in a core set though. IMO this would be a surprising inclusion.
14: Uncle Istvan: Well I guess it is the 20th anniversary? Some long-time players might like seeing him again after they last saw him future-shifted.
Out of those 14, it is my opinion that Tendrils of Corruption and Thoughtseize are the most likely to be reprinted. Right now I'm expecting slot #118 to be one of those two or a new card.

Whitmage,
I would just like to thank you on behalf of the mtgsalvation community. I have been trying to find a list like this and you saved me the time and energy to making one myself.

OK, maybe I'm old but what does clutch mean. Are you talking about shifting gears while driving?

Sorry for double posting.
That's just mean.

Maybe I am misunderstanding you, but are you saying this this little 3/3 is going to make you quite for a year?...
It has Hexproof, isn't that good enough evasion?
