I've been testing for the RPTQs online and it's Bant Company everywhere. It's almost 50% of the 5-0 decks being posted and 6/8 of GP:Rimini were Bant CoCo versions.

I suspect this is going to be the dominant deck in terms of raw numbers at the RPTQs. Does anything out there reliably beat this deck? I don't care how bad it's matchup is versus the rest of the field -- what do you as a Bant player just do not want to sit down verses?

Has any judge ever commented on if it's still sleeve playable? It's kind of hard to tell from the pics. There is a small but eager market for playable beat power.

Foil Dragonlord Atarka, or $20 in trade credit at my LGS.

Basically, I am wondering if foil cards with EDH potential are a hold or sell in general. I have no immediate need for cards or cash, and am willing to stick it in my binder for years.

Managed economies never work. History is a graveyard of them. I wouldn't expect anything different from Pucatrade.

I remember hearing there was a way to tell because the "sticker" on the bottom started with A, or something like that? Or was this proven false over time?

It is kind of sad there is no way to tell. I have a couple of boxes around because my playgroup bought a case to test with and we only got through three boxes. I do still have the original case and invoice -- but obviously not sealed.

  • posted a message on What to do with foil Zendikar lands?
Long story short, I've had a box with ~200 full art foil Zendikar lands sitting on my shelf for several years. I've never kept track of their price, but I'm assuming with BfZ announced they're probably worth significantly less than they were several months ago.

The question is, what do I do with them? Is it better to cash out now (and how do I cash out that many cards?), or is it too late and really the best thing to do is sit on them until after "BfZ block" is no longer the current block?

EDIT: I can't edit the title, but I also have several hundred regular Zendikar lands from cracking tons of product back in the day. What would you do with these?

Unless you have byes that carried over from last yearly total, you won't have any from PWP until they are awarded later this year.

Oh, I thought it was like the old system that you got them as soon as you passed the threshold. Still curious about the other regionals though.

Two quick questions about SCG Regionals for those who attended:

    1. The Midwest regionals were 1x PWP multiplier. Were any of the other regions 3x?
    2. Did those who pre-register get a full set of tokens, or did you get a choice of one?

I'm wondering because the Midwest one was 1x with a choice of tokens, when most people thought it was going to be 3x with a full set. I'm a bit upset personally since one of the reasons I went was because I'm on the cusp of byes for GP:Memphis, and the difference between 3x and 1x will probably cost me a bye.

<<edited out note here, will restore if I can verify it's true>>

The other issue is that being ineligible to play in these events hugely hurts your ability to earn points for Grand Prix byes. There really should be a bonus for winning a PPTQ.

Our LGS is having their PPTQ today, 32 max, and it's full. I'm #1 on the waiting list. Is there anything wrong with paying someone to drop before the tournament begins so I can get their spot?

  • posted a message on What's the penalty for presenting an illegal deck at CREL, if only discovered after the game is over?
At a Competative REL event, you win game 1 of a match. You go to sideboard, and discover that you forgot to de-sideboard after the previous round -- not realizing it until now because you never saw a sideboard card. Another variation is discovering you presented a 59 card deck upon discovering 16 cards in your sideboard.

What's the correct penalty to apply?

  • posted a message on Is it possible to split SCG Open Points and Invitations at a PTQ Qualifier?
    Quote from Rhadamanthus »
Prizes other than product or cash (byes, invites, special points, etc.) can't be split. They have to be handed out based on the final standings reached through played games or concessions/drops. Just remember that you cannot offer a given prize payout in exchange for a match result or vice versa. That's Bribery/Collusion, and it's a very tricky subject. If you find yourself in a situation where you're unsure what you can and can't talk about with regard to prizes, ask a Judge about the right way to do it.

It has to be a bit more broad than that. The local L2 and L3 judges in the midwest let you split TCG points, the difference being TCG points are on physical pieces of paper.

  • posted a message on Is it possible to split SCG Open Points and Invitations at a PTQ Qualifier?
I noticed that a lot of the PTQ Qualifiers in my area are also SCG IQ events. My question is, if we decide to split in the finals (i.e. we both get invites), are the points splittable? For example, can we agree to a split of 1st Place: PTQ Invite + $900 / 2nd Place: $900 + 18 Points? Or are the points not splittable?

    Also relevant, if we get to Top4 in a $1K (2 Invites, $800 Cash, 19 Points to split) is it possible to do a split like 1st:PTQQ Invite / 2nd: 10 Points, $250, SCG Invite / 3rd: 9 Points, $250, SCG Invite / 4th: $300?.

In other words, can we redistribute the points and invites as we wish when discussing prize splits, or are the invites and points set in stone for placement?

Also consider getting anything over $500 graded. Even if they're beat up, having a PSA or BGS grade on it lends a huge amount of credibility as to it being authentic.

  • posted a message on Ethersworn Canonist & Suspend Interactions
Let's say I have a Ethersworn Canonist in play. I also have a Rift Bolt and Lightning Bolt in hand.

Also relevant, suspend under current rules is as follows:

    Quote from CompRel »

702.59a: Suspend is a keyword that represents three abilities. The first is a static ability that functions while the card with suspend is in a player's hand. The second and third are triggered abilities that function in the exile zone. "Suspend N-[cost]" means "If you could begin to cast this card by putting it onto the stack from your hand, you may pay [cost] and exile it with N time counters on it. This action doesn't use the stack," and "At the beginning of your upkeep, if this card is suspended, remove a time counter from it," and "When the last time counter is removed from this card, if it's exiled, play it without paying its mana cost if able. If you can't, it remains exiled. If you cast a creature spell this way, it gains haste until you lose control of the spell or the permanent it becomes."

So based on the above, are the following two statements true?

    1. I suspend Rift Bolt with an Ethersworn Canonist. Because I have not cast a spell, I can cast Lightning Bolt.
    2. I cast Lightning Bolt. Because I cannot cast Rift Bolt, I cannot suspend it.
