Sheesh. Because apparently U/G needed more good stuff? It's a fantastic card but I'm so not looking forward to playing against it

Disappointingly I completely agree with you. This YMTC really has not turned out well. This seems like it will turn out as a Vanish Into Memory, rather than a Crucible of Worlds like I and many others had hoped for.

At least Vanish into Memory sees play in some EDH/Commander decks.
This card won't even make it that far.. And it could be free and I still wouldn't play it in limited.

I'm still trying to figure out how someone who was not only invited to the invitational several times but won the whole thing once didn't make it in. If it's a HOF then someone who's face is on a card ought to be famous enough..

Intent shouldn't matter. If I step offsides on purpose or by accident in football, the penalty is the same. If I travel by accident or on purpose in basketball, the penalty is the same. If I pass across both lines in hockey by accident or on purpose, the penalty if the same.

Part of playing at Comp REL is not to make those kinds of mistakes. Not that I would believe it for a second, but if you legitimately are unable to adhere to the 4 card rules and accidentally slide 2 more copies of a card you already play 4 of, then you are not ready to play at Comp REL levels.

How many times do we need to see people getting rewarded for breaking the rules before we drop the "Well, it was just an honest mistake" schtick? Apparently you can play with a 58 card deck, play a deck with more than 4 copies of a card, drop more than 1 land a turn, change your life total late game, and play cards without paying all their mana cost, and just yawn, go "sorry", lose a single game (after you've already beaten and eliminated 5-6 other players), and go on with your day.

I don't think anyone is saying change the rules event to event. We're saying change the rules to be more fair to the opponent who frankly get screwed everytime this happens, which is WAY more than it should.

I mean, honestly, knowing the penalty is only a game loss, who wouldn't stack their deck and see how far they can run with it? It's way to easy to game the penalty system in your favor. And the worst thing is, if this amount of cheating is caught, God only know how many people are getting away with it.

I bolded the important parts, but the gist of this post HAS to be 100% correct. Either the rules are the rules and if you break them there's a set punishment, or the Rules are guidelines that people will trample to get an advantage.
It sucks when your awesome 3 point shot to win the game gets waved off because you traveled, but YOU BROKE THE RULES.
It sucks when the touchdown comes back because of holding, BUT YOU BROKE THE RULES.
It sucks when you get a DQ or Game Loss or what ever the infraction is when your deck is illegal, BUT YOU BROKE THE RULES.

If the rules aren't sacred, who frakking cares?

Had this one in the final round of RTR Block draft tonight:
I'm playing Grixis control (Dimir with splash of red) and I've got control of an active Simic Manipulator with two +1 counters on it.
My opponent is Orzhov splash green for some Trestle Trolls. It's game three and the board is pretty much stalled with him controlling two Trolls and a Kingpin's Pet that's been beating me down due to my lack of removal and no flyers on board.

The previous turn of his he played Lyev Decree on my Manipulator and one of my other guys on board.
He goes to drop Holy Mantle on his Pet and start dominating the game, probably closing it out within a few turns as I have NO removal in my deck good enough to kill a 4/4 flyer (sucked to be me) BUT... in response to the enchantment being played I activate the Manipulator and take control of the Pet.

He told me in the chat he was holding Aerial Maneuver but playing the Mantle took all his white mana.
I proceeded to beat down with a vengeance while holding two more creatures to evolve the Manipulator with, Pontiff of Blight and Ultimate Price for his Pontiff that I knew he had.
Moral of that story? Don't forget that Detain wears off at the beginning of your turn. He expected that I couldn't use the Manipulator that turn

The article got updated at some point today to show the percentages. Revenge of Necromancy got 73.4% of the votes. That's a big winning margin, so a lot of people must like the card.

Unless only 100 people voted and 73 of them voted for the winner. Either way it's a steaming pile of BS. I'd be surprised if this ends up being playable even in a dedicated wheel based EDH deck. Constructed playable? NO. Draftable? NO. Congrats community, you're frakking idiots

    Closer to $10.

BOO, but thank you Smile Maybe I'll put it together in a bundle with some other FBB early stuff I've got and auction it that way. Seems like a hassle to auction just one at a time.

    Thanks!

SCG has SP Korean BB Hypnotic Specters for 9~, so I'd think that's the high end.

    Cheers

Yeah, that seems like a reasonable high end. Add a signature to that to top 15 or somewhere closer to 12?

So basically I'd be alright putting them out on ebay for approx 5-10% more than base value? My biggest problem is pricing the hypnotic specter in the first place. Any idea's?

Hi Everyone! I'm starting to get out of paper magic and I've been trying to figure out the values of some of my signed or foreign bb (sometimes both) stuff.
It's a 5th Ed signed Howling Mine, Signed Beta Terror and what I believe to be a Signed Korean 4th (or something around then) Hypnotic Specter
I haven't been able to find reliable pricing info online anywhere and would love to tap into the knowledge pool here Smile

    Thanks!

I saw a couple of comments about docking the chat window to the main battlefield screen and I do like that. IF it didn't still sit over some of the battlefield.

I'm still convinced that the UI for this program could be written better by a couple of college students with a case of beer and a free weekend.

Now I know this card is complete jank, but hang in there with me.

    Trait Doctoring
    Sorcery
Change the text of target permanent by replacing all instances of one color word with another or one basic land type with another until end of turn.
    Cipher

Again, I say complete jank. But this is the Johnniest Johnny card I have seen in a while. It's useless for landwalk and for dodging protections to get in for damage, so that angle is out. But what IS it good for? Off the top of my head, it's decent an evasive blue general that can activate it a lot. Then... you want to use permanent color hosers like Dream Tides but since that triggers on upkeep it is useless too! So what else?

Also don't spam the thread with "nothing, it sucks". Yeah, we know it sucks. People get away with playing awful cards all the time in this format. At least with this one it will be funny :p

The best use for the card is to gather as many together as you can, light them on fire and use the fire as a focal point to summon demons to punish WotC for making such a crappy rare

I can only imagine that they printed this because OMFGOMFGOMFG Blue/Black is too strong and we have to let newbs have fun. There are no good, constructed applications of this card as a sorcery that aren't extreme corner cases. It's another example of Blue/Black being shafted because those two colors don't fit in WotC's new world order

In addition to the pre-release sealed events, many local game stores also run sealed events and especially draft events as well.

I can't quite tell from your post whether or not you'd enjoy drafting, but it seems to me like you might.
I'm not sure if the nature of the format though is a good fit for you. It seems like you place value on playing with "your" cards, meaning the ones that you opened, so a format where you pick one card out of the pack and then have to pass the rest on might not be something you'd enjoy.

I'd still recommend trying it out a few times, maybe pick up a draft set (3 packs of the same set) for you and a few of your playing friends and have some casual drafts around the house to see if you'd enjoy that format.

Otherwise you're stuck either playing in LGS sealed events or waiting for Pre-Releases.

If you're interested in MTGO there's sealed events firing constantly for approximately the same cost as paper events, if you want to keep the cards. If you want to play sealed for fun and try to win 3 packs by going undefeated there's always the phantom sealed events in MTGO as well.

Good luck and I hope you find something you enjoy.

This is the key I think: venting in a constructive way.

Is there a 12 step program for this?
    1) admit you're powerless to the shuffler
    2) believe a power greater than us [reimbursement] could restore our sanity
    3) make a decision to go ahead to number 4
    4) make an inventory of your packs, realizing your own worth
    5) admit you've tilted before
    6) be ready to stop using all caps
    7) ask the mods to forgive us and lift our bans
    8) make a list of all on YOUR banned list, identify which you've banned for beating you fair and square (cheaters be damned)
    9) take the list from number 8, take a wednesday off work/school, send them apologies
    10) stop tilting in the future
    11) through meditation, become one with the shuffler
    12) take what you've learned, and bring it to other tilters

You win the thread. Seriously, that was awesome Grin
