Aug 5, 2013I've commissioned the art for my Youtube Channel Playmat and I know of at least two other people in that community that have done so as well.Posted in: Magic General
As far as what makes a mat good, I would say that skill and style are the main things people look for. Without seeing any of your art, I can't really say anything other than that.
Jul 5, 2013I've been trying lately to get into doing alters, but it's a fairly daunting task. I don't think I'll ever trust myself to alter any card over $10. Other than that, I spend a lot of time on my Magic Youtube channel.Posted in: Magic General
Feb 27, 2013Posted in: Magic SoftwareQuote from MemoryLapseSee this is the problem with people like you. You refuse to see the obvious fact that there is much LESS chance of you losing even one basic land in your digital collection than there is of you losing your entire physical collection.
Is your MTGO digital collection 100% safe and guaranteed for life? Nope. Is you paper collection? Nope. Anything COULD happen, but which scenario is more likely?
You are just using that as an excuse to avoid admitting to yourself that your paper cards have much less utility than an official digital collection of the same cards would.
Paper is old n busted, digital is the new hotness.
I'm finding it really hard to believe that someone is so adamant about digital only. Do you not enjoy the social aspect of Magic? I think it's honestly one of the most amazing things about the game. Inviting a bunch of people over on a Friday night for Cube/EDH and other formats is just great. I hate feeling like I'm playing against a robot the whole time.
Yes there is a danger to having your collection stolen or destroyed in some manner, but having cards you don't own online really isn't any safer. There IS a chance that somewhere down the road, Magic online might shut down. Magic: The Gathering may not be around for the rest of my lifetime. I'm happy to know that when I'm 70 (here's hoping) and I feel like teaching my great grandchildren how to play the game, I'll have that option.
Digital and paper both have their advantages, but it is absolutely ridiculous to favor Digital over paper.
If digital does become the only option, I better start practicing my communications.
"Good luck, Have fun"
"Waiting for SgtMcQuacks"
"SgtMcQuacks has conceded"
"SgtMcQuacks has left the game"
Damn that feels good. It's like I just had an hour long debate with some friends.
Dec 24, 2012Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from AntibusI actually know of someone who repeatedly does this. Everyone knows about it, it's kind of awkward because he almost seems proud. He keeps buying fat packs, commander decks and such, guts them, and returns them. Doesn't hurt big retailers too much but I just imagine someone buying these, perhaps as a gift for their kid, or some kid saving up their allowance for that sweet new bunch of packs or some commander or pds product and getting a bunch of basic lands. It's kind of creepy but aside from avoiding him we don't know what a reasonable reaction would be.
Call the police...too harsh?
Go to every target and walmart in town with his picture...too crazy?
Why exactly is it too harsh to call the cops on someone who is habitually stealing?
Dec 9, 2012Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from onewheelwizzardRegarding the Spreading Seas incident, I was specifically looking for it when I watched the video and I still didn't catch it.
It took me a while to see it, mainly because the link starts the video 2 minutes before it happens.
The spreading seas are on top of the land they're enchanting (2 blackcleave cliffs). He makes a pile of an enchanted blackcleave and an overgrown tomb to cast Tarmogoyf. The spreading seas is now underneath the Overgrown Tomb, but still on top of the Blackcleave. At 2:27:35 you can see him spread out his lands to where the spreading seas is under the overgrown tomb and no longer on top of the Blackcleave. Then at 2:28:33 he picks up the Blackcleave cliffs and moves it to the side with another one, separating it completely from the Spreading Seas.
Dec 2, 2012Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from TurrensI think your all wrong. I mean just look at this thread for proof. even if he bought 30 boxes, and had a credit card bill reflecting that people would point out (rightly so) that doesn't prove where he got "those" cards.
Do you seriously expect him to post his credit card records on twitter? Maybe bring them to a job interview( if he gets one) and beg and plead for a chance to explain that he's not a thief?
Your opinions are worse than the apathy I mentioned.
If I called you a thief and you were fired for it why is it ok to make you prove your not?
If he got 40-50(each) of the top 4 mythics/rares, from AVR in 30 boxes, then that dude has some serious luck. If he wants to clear his name, going through his Credit Card bills wouldn't be that insane of an idea. It's not like it shows anything besides what he's purchased. He probably shouldn't have to, but if he really wants to clear his name, it is an option.
Nov 28, 2012He's accused of stealing singles, right? And the thing that clears him of this is the fact that "sealed" product didn't match bar codes from CFB's stock? I don't care either way, but I don't see how this proves innocence.Posted in: Magic General
Oct 21, 2012Posted in: ModernQuote from SalmonSushiCards get reprinted in mass, the players who had those cards get mad and buy less product because of this bad experience. Its quite simple. Regardless how blame is shifted, bad experiences lead to less purchases.
So these people are investing in cards by getting them through shops/online correct? It's not as if these people go out and buy boxes and boxes hoping to pull valuable cards. I'm not doubting that they'll buy less product, it just seems that they're a very small percentage of those who actually buy product.
Sep 11, 2012Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from RWF_LessThis has been done many times over, and is still being done now... just ask the YouTube MTG Community.
I can confirm this. If you don't want to trade on Youtube to get signed lands, just trade over this site and ask everyone you trade with to send a signed land. It takes longer to get, but they will mean much more to you
Jul 11, 2012I wish I could use Dragon Shields, but after the last set of 3 colors I got, I refuse to get them. They were all majorly curved, had black bits all over them and just feel horrible. I'm amazed that a company as big as them can have such inconsistent products.Posted in: Magic General
Feb 23, 2012I'm a bit confused as to why ramp is needed in a token deck. None of our spells really cost that much, so it just seems like we would be wasting mana early that we could be using for anthems and tokens. Are the Acidic slimes for deathtouch or for land destruction? If it's for enchantments or artifacts, iti seems way too expensive for us to want. Garruk produces deathtouch for a cheaper cost and he's removal on top of that.Posted in: Standard Archives
I'm assuming that all the ramp is for Increasing Devotion Flashback and Elesh Norn? If it's working for you, that's great. It just seems that ramp tokens would be a little too slow, especially since most of your token generators are all ground units. Most of my wins come from chumping with grounds until my Air units can take off. Either that or I just shrine with 10 and kill.
I'm interested to hear how this deck is doing. Please update us
Feb 22, 2012With quite a few low mana cost creatures, I'm not sure I agree with a MD Timely reinforcement. We really shouldn't ever be behind with creatures and if you find yourself in need of life gain or fuel after a board wipe, Elspeth should be able to get the job done.Posted in: Standard Archives
I used to run G/W tokens, but decided to try G/W/b and so far it's been amazing. Just having black for Lingering souls and Vault of the Archangel alone has been outstanding.
Jan 6, 2012Posted in: Standard ArchivesQuote from AlanexrySnap, Blade Splicer, Imaging something early. It was just an idea I thought should be tossed out. Low numbers of early game creatures is a problem.
Yeah, I get what you're saying. A small number of creatures to equip early does seem to be a problem. I would see a need for feast and famine more than war and peace though. Running some Timely Reinforcements will help with your life until you can stabilize and get your fatties out. The extra mana from feast and famine would be great for being able to flashback more alchemies and think twices. Hmm...you got me thinking now.
Sep 29, 2011Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from NarvuntienI have only really been playing for a few months.
I had an old deck my friends gave me for years but I wasn't into magic.. I just played it socially.
and I have little interest in Innstrad... I hate vampires, werewolves and zombies.
give me back my creepy sci-fi horror and proliferation artifacts and Infect mechanics... they are just really cool... more Phyrexia please.
Oh man, I couldn't disagree more with this. I hated the sci-fi horror theme of NPH. I love the theme and art in Innistrad
Sep 26, 2011Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from ValarinI like to play MTG. Yes, I will keep playing MTG, even through INN
I also like getting some expectation of value out of packs. NPH was great, you had real money uncommons, Karn, Swords, Preators, you could have a reasonable expectaiton of getting something decent when you drafted. Even M12 has the titans and 5 PW's, and core sets are usually not very money heavy
INN has like 2 cards worth anything, Ruinator and Lliana. And that's it. It has possibly the worse mythic ever printed (that self mill guy). None of the commons or uncommons are worth the cardboard they are printed on. And even if you leave out value all togehter, just in usefullness, the set has practically nothing outside of limited to offer.
I lived through SOM and MBS and saw how miserable drafting a set where all the value is in 2 cards is. I won't be drafting INN if I can help it, if I can get 2-3 other players to play EDH or casual with at FNM, I'm never touching this set again. There's just nothing there to be had.
Well isn't this really your fault for after playing magic for so long, you still think opening packs is going to get you value? Most people draft for the experience, not to pull a crap load of money cards.
Sep 25, 2011What exactly about them makes them "Twilight" vampires? I'm really tired of everyone just saying anything vampire is Twilight.Posted in: Magic General
Quote from FrenadolNo, Mirage and Tempest is what Magic should be about. Not about powercreeped fatties being turned sideways and canned Harrypotteresque "horror" coupled with Twilight "vampires".
But I still admit that Innistrad is slightly better than the complete facepalms that are Zendikar, RoE and SOM block.
Sep 19, 2011Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from RMcroogerSucks, I would have at least traded you 40 dollars worth of stuff for it. Trades are trades, If you don't look up the value of the card then it is your fault. It is not my responsibility to tell you the prices of your cards and it wasn't his either. I just traded a guy a Dismember and a ponder for his foil Dismember. He came back after an hour and said he looked it up and wanted to trade back. I told him there was no way, that the foil dismember was worth way more than what he was offering me. He looked pretty shocked. I didn't want to be a jerk, I even liked the guy. However, the mistake is on him not me. I knew my prices and I was hustling thats what I do. That is what all traders do. Expect it, Do it yourself. You learn from your mistakes and you will never make that mistake again.
Please don't lump me in with your kind. There are honest people out there and just because you're not one of them, it doesn't mean that everyone is like you.
Sep 8, 2011Looks a little better. I have to ask though, how often do you think you'll be relying on Zombie Infestation? I understand that your ponders are in there, but it still seems like you'll be discarding more than you'll be gaining by using it. I know Gravedigger is there too, but there's only 2 of him. What exactly do you plan on discarding to make use of Infestation? The only cards I could think of that you'd let go would be the control/removal spells that you have in here, but you'll want to use those early, right? So if you're discarding them early you're losing your removals, but if you're doing it late, you most likely already have your Grave Titan out and are generating more zombies than your opponent can handle. Just my thoughts. I'm working on a zombie deck myself and so far it's not fluid at all.Posted in: Standard Archives
Sep 2, 2011Bought two packs of futuresight and got a Magus of the moon and a foil Grove of the Burnwillows then last night during a besieged booster draft with friends I pulled a Tezzeret, which thankfully I got since I lucked into first.Posted in: Magic General
Aug 21, 2011Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from GoduerzaI'm on a really bad run with packs. I've played 5-6 drafts and opened numerous more packs and all I've got is something like Foil Sun Titan and Solemn Simulacrum. Everything else was bollocks.
Seeing people around me open Garruks, Foil Garruks, Chandras and Foil Grave Titans is getting really frustrating when all I see lately is a bunch of crap at the end of the pack.
How do you deal with such a rough period with packs, if you happen to get real frustrated by it, like me?
Just take a break from opening packs and order singles to make some fun decks. A break from opening is really all you can do, that or spend way too much money on packs so that you'll eventually pull something good.

Jul 25, 2011First off, I'm very new to magic so I suck at building decks (knowing what to put in for every situation). I've had some good luck with pulls from m12 and I'm looking for advice on what kind of deck I could build around him, using as many of my cards as possible.Posted in: Standard Archives
The cards I have are:
4x Garruk, Primal Hunter
2x Dungrove Elder
2x Primordial Hydra
1x Primeval Titan
2x Quicksilver Amulet
2x Solemn Simulacrum
2x Myr Superion
1x Ratchet Bomb
1x Mox Opal
2x Phyrexian Obliterator
2x Surgical Extraction
1x Sorin Markov
I only put the black cards up because they seem a little beastly to me. Like I said, I'm not sure what kind of deck I want to build and I'm unfamiliar with building them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I also have quite a few commons and uncommons for m12 that might help flesh a deck out. If there are certain cards I need to make a good Garruk deck, please let me know. I might be able to trade for them.
Jul 25, 2011What kind of deck could I make?Posted in: Standard Archives
I've opened up some M12 boosters and have some cards from NPH and a little Mirrodin. I'm wondering if there's any cool decks that I could build around these cards I have. Outside of Commons and Uncommons, The good cards I have are...
2x Phyrexian Obliterator
2x Surgical Extraction
1x Vengeful Pharaoh
1x Sorin Markov
1x Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger
2x Primordial Hydra
2x Dungrove Elder
1x Melira, Sylvok Outcast
4x Garruk, Primal Hunter
1x Primeval Titan
1x Sun Titan
1x Honor of the Pure
1x Leyline of Sanctity
1x Angelic Destiny
1x Goblin Chieftain
2x Quicksilver Amulet
2x Solemn Simulacrum
2x Myr Superion
1x Myr Battlesphere
1x Ratchet Bomb
1x Mox Opal
I'd like to make a deck to take to FNM or to a local shop and play around with. I'm really new to Magic so any advice will be greatly appreciated. I might go into my shop tomorrow and trade some of these for other cards if I can get a good idea of a fun deck to play. Thanks in advance guys :).

Jul 21, 2011SgtMcQuacks posted a message on Better Card to base a Mono Black around. Grave Titan or Phyrexian Obliterator?Awesome. So maybe 4 Lashwrithes and a few Grave titans would be a good start? I'm debating holding on to the Obliterators or getting rid of them. I know they're fairly expensive, but if I can get a good start to a mono black, it'd be worth trading/selling.Posted in: Standard Archives

Jul 19, 2011Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from kramer733I ask them how much it costed them to make that deck and then they said "0.00 cause i already had all their cards.
Well by that logic, it costed me $0.00 as well to build my house $10million estimated in value house because I ALREADY HAD THE MATERIAL TO BUILD IT! NO! This is not how you add things up. What i mean is how much you spent to assemble all those cards. Then I usually have to ask a 2nd question to rephrase it. "how much is your deck worth?" Then they say ... the same thing.
I don't understand. They think it's the same question.
Why don't you just ask, in total of card value, how much their deck is worth? I can see a lot of people saying $0 for how much they spent. What if they got all their cards from boosters? Do you expect them to know exactly how many boosters they bought to get every card in that deck? Maybe it's not the people...it's the way you're phrasing your question.
Jul 18, 2011Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from ValarinWhat if you opened these cards first:
Sutured Ghoul - $.50
Goblin Chieftain - $1.25
Cemetery Reaper - $.75
Reverberate - $.75
Then the switch happened, and you opened
Grave Titan - $8.50
Garruk, Primal Hunter - $28.00
Aegis Angel (Foil) - $2.00
Cemetery Reaper (Foil) - $2.00
Chandra's Phoenix - $3.50
Rune-Scarred Demon - $1.00
I think you'd be singing a different tune.
The store made a mistake, and you just got unlucky, It would have just as easily been flipped and you could have gotten WAY more value from the pack swap. Sometimes excrement happens. If it wa sMY Store, I wouldn't have made you swap, I would have eaten the pack as a cost of my mistake, but those prize packs were never yours.
Put yourself in the other guys shoes. Because of a store screw up, what if somoene opene s a bnunch of packs you were supposed to get and opened those bombs? You'd be pretty upset.
If the reverse happened, you can bet your life that the employee would have just got 4 brand new packs instead of taking the opened junk packs. Either way, someone would be complaining. I think it's ridiculous that he had to give opened cards to someone else when the person receiving them, knew what they were. The only reason this was done is so that the employee can get better cards. I feel for you OP.

May 13, 2009Posted in: Real-Life AdviceQuote from XDarkAngelXIt's the same thing where it matters, and the only places it's different is where this society's conception of love (based on the Romantics) is screwed up (i.e. possessiveness and feelings of ownership of woman by man... or sometimes vice-versa, but most often woman by man).
Again, if you feel like you can't be someone's lover unless you're everything to that person, you have some self-esteem and possessiveness issues.
Just because you feel that other's can have sex with the person you love, doesn't not mean that people who don't agree with that are wrong. Just because I want to be a perfect mate for someone I care deeply for does not mean that I'm possessive or have self-esteem issues. Get off your high horse, thinking that just because you're different, your lifestyle choices are so much better than the rest of the world.
May 12, 2009What's more mature, ending something good because you can't handle somebody else's penis inside your wife, or staying with your love while being realistic?Posted in: Real-Life Advice
Really? Sexual acts are a matter of pleasure. I don't think maturity is an issue here. If my wife is getting pleasure from someone else, than I'm not doing my job or she just needs more than I can give her. Either way if you love someone, then you want to make them happy in every way possible. If they find this happiness with someone else, then that should bother you. In this case, I'll take my western world's viewpoint.
May 12, 2009Posted in: Real-Life AdviceQuote from KevGenocidesometimes people have to relize that if you sleep with someone it doesnt automatically mean your gunna be together for 20 years or get married or w/e. Sometimes its just sex, not everyone holds sex on this high pedistal, its just another form of fun 2 people can have together. It seems like a lot of people just dont get that, at least on here anyways.
Well there's two ways people view sex, it's either a deep connection of love experienced physically, or it's just meeting at a party and having sex (fun). While with someone you care about its often both.
If you had sex the first night with her, you're in it for fun. There was no love there or any feeling besides wanting to get some. The fact that you found out she was with someone and continued to have sex with her just because her boyfriend says it's alright...you pretty much brought all this doubt on yourself.
Best of luck, even though I find the whole situation quite disturbing.
May 12, 2009Back in the day I used to get Magic cards and just look at them, but never play. I'm recently getting into Magic and wanting to play this time, I don't have a lot of money towards building a great deck to play against others.Posted in: Market Street Café
I went through a few of my old cards and found, Underground Sea, Savannah, Scrubland, Tropical Island, all revised. I noticed that these fetch a pretty good price and I'm contemplating selling them
Should I hold onto these and hope they continue to go up in value? Are there dual lands that are going to be printed soon that will decrease the value of revised ones?
Thanks in advance guys.
