• posted a message on Slate Street Ruffian Triggered Ability
Quote from Nis
Slate Street Ruffian will trigger for each creature that blocks it. The triggered ability does go on the stack and can be responded to. You may cast Furious Resistance in response to Slate Street Ruffian's trigger.

This is incorrect. "When x becomes blocked" means when a creature goes from not being blocked to being blocked and will only occur once no matter how many creatures block it.

Compare this to "when x becomes blocked by a creature" which WILL trigger for each blocking creature.

509.4c An ability that reads "Whenever [this creature] becomes blocked, . . ." generally triggers only once each combat for that creature, even if it's blocked by multiple creatures. It will trigger if that creature becomes blocked by at least one creature declared as a blocker. It will also trigger if that creature becomes blocked by an effect or by a creature that's put onto the battlefield as a blocker, but only if the attacking creature was an unblocked creature at that time. (See rule 509.1h.)

Quote from Kandjar
From my understanding, if no blockers have been declare and incinerate is cast after that declaration; you can Ninjitsu in order to prevent the creature from dying.

However, what about the case where there is "no way" you opponent could block the creature? [e.g: nothing on the table, no cards in hand... just one incinerate on the stack].

If no blockers had been declared then there is no problem with ninjutsuing the skyfisher. However, it does not matter that no blockers are possible, the declare attackers step still exists and must be explicitly passed.

If you had said "OK", or "No blocks", or "ok I take the damage" you would be declaring no blocks and he could ninjutsu but you clearly are not as you are nuking his creature.

can you ninjitsu after a ninjitsu Meaning, you attack... no blocker, you ninjitsu; then before damage your opponent casts incinerate... Can you respond by Ninjitsu another ninja? I would think so...

Absolutely, the ninja comes into play attacking and unblocked and can be ninjutsued as long as it is still in combat.

• posted a message on Tapping mana out of order
This may spill over into tournament rulings so for specificity's sake lets say this occurred at competitive REL.

What would happen if a player tapped 4 forest and a deathrite shaman for mana and in response to the deathrite shaman's trigger the opponent cast cremate on the land. I know the player wont get the mana from the shaman, but will he be allowed to untap his lands?

• posted a message on Quick Question!
I believe the problem here stems from pronoun disagreement in the reminder text.

(U, return an unblocked attacker to you hand: Put this creature into play tapped and attacking)

OP is reading "this creature" to refer to the unblocked attacker which was returned to hand whereas they mean "this creature" to refer to the mistblade shinobi. I think this is an understandable mistake especially as it breaks normal card templating rules (cards generally spell out their own name rather than referring to themselves as "this card").

Ops, I wrote it wrong. Now it's correct Smile

EDIT:
Okay, so the damage dealt by Prized Unicorn is divided as I choose between blocking creatures ?

Not precisely (this is a recent rules change as of 2010). After blockers are declared the attacking player determines the order in which blockers will be destroyed when damage is dealt and must assign lethal damage in order of that assignment when damage is dealt.

This doesn't usually come up but it would, for instance, prevent you from assigning 1 damage to each Diregraf Ghoul and then overloading Electrickery to kill them off. You must instead pick one ghoul to deal two damage to so that it dies and you wont have any more damage to deal to the next one.

You can kill both Arbor Elf's just fine though.

509.2. Second, for each attacking creature that's become blocked, the active player announces that creature's damage assignment order, which consists of the creatures blocking it in an order of that player's choice. (During the combat damage step, an attacking creature can't assign combat damage to a creature that's blocking it unless each creature ahead of that blocking creature in its order is assigned lethal damage.) This turn-based action doesn't use the stack.

I've still yet to understand how that works. How are you paying the mana cost for Flash that early?

Reforge the Soul will trigger its miracle, but the trigger will not go onto the stack until you regain priority AFTER Desperate Ravings finishes resolving.

You will have to reveal the reforge the soul immediately but you risk randomly discarding it before you can use it.

You do not need to pass priority between activations.

However, your opponent will get priority before each trigger resolves and deals damage to him/her.

• posted a message on Use of Carrion Legal?
You can always find the updated card text for any card in gatherer
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=3280
The mtgsalvation system has a card information link program as well

Carrion

The correct text for this card is "as an additional cost to play carrion sacrifice a creature"

My favorite win was during an MTGO sealed tournament. My opponent has me and I was about to concede when MTGO crashes.

During the 20 minutes it takes for them to bring it back up I realize that if I can bluff 1 damage through in combat I can bounce my creature (i'm not sure on the details but it involved an ETB effect) replay it and deal exactly lethal.

I won because of wizards terrible server architecture. Oh yea.

Quote from Adam W
Thanks for the replies. Perhaps I should use an example of what actually happened: "Tap, Goblin Guide, tap tap, Kiln Fiend, attack 2, you're at 14, done."

I have counterspells and instant-speed removal in hand... and even if I didn't, I still could reasonably have responded to any/all of his actions. It honestly threw off my plays for the entire round - not to mention it's kind of inconsiderate.

If it was anything other than FNM, I probably would've called a judge, but I'm just interested to know what I should do if I run into this issue again.

In this situation you can force the opponent to back up to the point that he played the first Gobling Guide as he cannot play Kiln Fiend while Goblin Guide is still on the stack, and Goblin Guide cannot leave the stack and come into play until you say its okay by passing priority.

However, your opponent IS allowed to stack as many instant speed spells and effects as he wants without you responding. You do still get to respond to each spell before they resolve (and they will resolve starting with the most recently played spell). If your opponent does this you can usually exploit it as it is unnecessary to play all your spells in this way and is usually a mistake.

And yet bigger change is that mana pools empty between combat steps and untap/draw steps.

That's not nearly as important as the removal of mana burn.

• posted a message on A n00b with a few questions!
1. Will it be a playable deck after this year's rotaion in standard?
2. Is there somewhere I could netdeck(as much as I hate doing it) a really good list?

1: There are always burn spells. However, we can't know what will be in the next set until it comes out. However, avoid cards from the Shards of Alara, conflux, and Alara Reborn as they will rotate out in the fall. Card like Lightning Bolt from magic 2010 (the core set) probably won't rotate but there's no way to guarantee this.

2: Magicthegathering.com posts the decklists of all the top finishers at major tournaments.

To sum up. If Gideon Jura is a creature and is dealt unpreventable damage he BOTH takes damage and loses the appropriate number of loyalty counters.

7/7 with 6 loyalty dealt 6 un-preventable damage? Dead

6/6 with 7 loyalty again dealt 6 un-preventable? again dead.
