I had to stop reading. I was enjoying the article, and will probably go back and finish, but the poor choices in language really drew me out.
two examples: 1. grate the wrong way... There really isn't a right way to be grated. 2. Pulling punches... used in reference to not holding back when attacking- Pulling a punch means to hold back, you pull your punch so as not to hit as hard.
EDIT: So I finished reading. I agree that the amount of mana available is key to winning. I've seen more games won from the benefit of a Mana Reflection than I have anyother card.
I love being hit in the face with a ton of good stuff all at once! (no sarcasm, really I do).
The Rhystic Study and Armageddon are both really well done, but are the text boxes necessary? They seem like such eye sores in otherwise beautifully painted cards. Also, that Malfegor really needs to be X-rated. If ever there were a "HaZAH!! Look at my baunch!!" pose that's it.
The truncation on the textbox was asked for. The guy wanted to keep the text box but ditch the flavor text on the cards. Its kinda neat... but a total pain in the butt.
Thats what I tried using last. Works great until the tip gets painty. After that I end up having to write on paper for a few minutes to get the ink flowing again. I was thinking of trying a brushpen but I dont think it will be as detailed due to the larger head.
Are you lining on paint that hasn't dried properly? Or do the pens end up rewetting the paint?
EDIT: I ask because I have a micron pen that I use scarcely and have never run into that problem.
These two are impressive, although the color matching could be a bit better on Slaver. I honestly had to re-look at it to even notice though, b/c you pulled off the 'grittiness' so well. Really nice work on these.
I need to rescan it then. The colors matching looks off in the scan but not so much IRL. Either way, I'm planning on doing another which should look even better!
Did a couple more today. The batteries in my camera went out so I had to scan them.
This one is for my EDH deck. I'm working on altering the entire thing.
This one scanned poorly. The difference in reflectivity between the paint and the card really showed up leading to some color issues. Which is sad because it looked great in person...
Decided to do some cards the other day. Sat down and just knocked a couple out. Then got a hold of some older cards I'd done and forgot to post.
I'm sure someone will want it.
Apparently Someone did want this one- A commission
The next three are for me... unless someone ends up giving me money for them
This one I posted previously, but have since "fixed" it. The dropped the cowl, touched up some of the values, and actually put more than a quick coat of the background. Still not happy with it.
Dr. Teeth did a demonic tutor a while back that I loved. Did one for myself, then sold it. Then I did this one... and then saw the original DT by Dr Teeth on ebay so I picked it up! Anyway, here's the second one I did.
And a Maze of Ith in Italian
And an update on a repair job.
I posted this destroyed Badlands a while back, which I'd received in trade:
And here's the backing that I've recently painted- haven't done the front yet-There's some grain from the flash and varnish... but at least you can't tell what it is through a translucent sleeve.
And an original. I was tired of looking at the original Jace artwork. My aim was to have something of the stalwart stance of the dual deck version, but with the mysteriousness of the original. The photo is bad, but I'm still meh about it.
Still like it better than the original...
That's really well painted, but compositionally it's really poor. I realize the placement of the island matches up with the original art, but it would've been much more effective if you had lowered the horizon line in the frame and made the island smaller. As it is now it's visually confusing, conflicting.
Agreed. It was so well painted it took me a minute to realize what card had actually been painted...
One of these days I need to hire someone to paint the layers for a card I'm working on to make the 3D effect even better. If I were to do so, would it work to have the person paint all of the cards before I started cutting, or would the cutting process probably chip the paint at the edges?
I was just thinking the other day how much better these would look if the edges weren't black, but appropriately colored to match the art.

Here are a few that I've managed lately. Some of the scans are large and not the greatest quality.
I get lucky if I can focus for 5 in a day. But thats probably my fault for having children and choosing to sit in front of the tv while I paint.

But in the mean time here's a half decent scan of a FoW I did for myself.

Anywho...
continuing a job of restoring some destroyed dual lands (still looking forward to doing the badlands I picked up for myself).
There's some glare from the varnish, which is unfortunate. Basically I painted the ocean and added some birds.
And then an EDH general
