This one's interesting. It doesn't reward an all-in tokens strategy, but rather a deck that runs stuff like Lingering Souls incidentally and has more important cards it would like to protect. Great flavor too. Maybe something for Soul Sisters in Modern?
I was just about to say that. This is replacing Genesis Chamber in my Norin Sisters Deck.
As a general rule, most Modern staples are going to rise a noticeable amount during modern season, (which I believe starts June 7th). If there are certain cards that you know for certain that you'll want, I would try and pick them up now.
To be fair, they have been slowly building up a return to Zendikar over the last few blocks.
See, this is the kind of baseless speculation that I'm talking about.
You guys WANT to believe we are returning to Zendikar, so you say it about everything.
You know you could probably find a "next block is Zendikar" thread for EVERY block we've had since Mirrodin?
Please, let it go until we have some real evidence.
Its not baseless speculation. Rather its Fall 2015 or a later block, Wizards has dropped hints that we're returning to the Eldrazi storyline. Just off the top of my head we've seen two different planeswalkers in the last two sets who were gearing up for another fight at the eldrazi.
-Gideon's reason for being in the Return to Ravnica block was to recruit planeswalkers to help him fight the Eldrazi.
-Kiora was on Theros looking for power and/or people to help fight the eldrazi.
The deck has evolved into some type of hybrid Black Devotion and BG Rock deck. Right now I have Woodland Cemetery and Temple of Malady as a 2-of to see which I like more. I have a feeling that I'll end up sticking with Cemetery, but I wanted to do some testing.
I'm really happy with the majority of the MB, the only card that I'm not sold on is Geralf's Messenger. I do like him in this list more than others list that play cards like Gravecrawler, Bloodghast, and other early drops creatures that can't block because I have turn 2 Goyf and Crusader.
I've been messing around with some kind of janky RGx deck that uses Prophetic Flamespeaker, and then cards like Courser of Kruphix and Oracle of Mul Daya that let you play with the top of your library revealed. Throw in some fetchlands to filter out bad top of library reveals, maybe throw in some miracles, and you could have some kind of RGx midrange deck.
There's also next to no chance you lose on buying a playset. You can buy a playset for ~$2 and either set it aside or just play with the card. I agree that it does feel like a "combo-y" card, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it pop up in some kind of modern deck, even if it that deck does take 2+ years to happen.
You'd need the Trader and the Egg and a creature and something to break the egg.
That's a lot of work! Why not just use Immortal Coil?
A few reasons: The deck is most likely playing red with the bazaar trader, so there are no shortage of ways to break the egg.
Even with the trader on the board your opponent will never be sure if the egg contains an Emrakul or a Phage. So you get to play some mind games with them.
There is no reason that a deck with this couldn't use immortal coil as well. Gives it more options.
There is some fun in putting cards face down in exile that your opponent won't know about.
True, until your opponent blows up your egg in response to you trying to give it to him with Bazaar Trader. Its a neat win-con, it just takes a lot to get going.
I was at a Gatecrash pre-release when I happened to get matched up with an ex of my girlfriend, and he knew that we were currently dating. He destroyed me game 1 and had me on the ropes early in game 2. I managed to clear most of his board and land a Debtor's Pulpit tapping down his only creature. He kept drawing blanks and I pinged him to death with small creatures. The same thing more or less happened game 3. The guy didn't say a word, he just threw his deck against the wall and stormed out of the store. Its easily one of my favorite MtG moments.
I was just about to say that. This is replacing Genesis Chamber in my Norin Sisters Deck.
