We usually play teams by drafting first, then randomly assigning teams before construction. We find that it helps newer players as they don't have to try and guess what is happening to as large of a degree.

Thanks. Smile I'd rather my opponent have to pay 2 to avoid the counter than have storm, but maybe that'll change.

It's worth pointing out that even if they play just one spell they have to pay two. They'll pay one for the spell, and one for the copy that occurs from their spell being cast.

I modified my legacy Merfolk deck for a vintage tournament at my nationals last year, borrowing time walk and recall. Basically it was similar to yours minus the Lotus and Mox. I think I came 3rd or 4th in the end, beating a number of real decks. The best card for me was hilariously Cursecatcher. People don't expect it. I had a guy go T1 Land, T2 Land, Mox, Tinker. To which I sacrificed my Cursecatcher and he had no answer.

Thundersnow: I can not, as I noted in my post, accede. Three to five cards, on average, for two mana is superior to two to three cards for five mana.

If you are getting three to five cards on average with treasure hunt then you are probably going to lose as your deck has far too many lands. I believe statistically it's somewhere between 1.5 and 2. The number 1.7 jumps out at me from someone's analysis but I'm far too lazy to find it/redo it here.

I've built myself the "standard" list that's floating around and I've got an extended tournament today, could anyone give me an idea of the kinds of things we can take out? I don't have much experience sideboarding with the deck. I know what I want in for each matchup but I'm not sure what I should be taking out.

I don't think it works that way. Journey to Nowhere would be countered on resolution when there is no legal target to be exiled.

The ability triggers when it enters the battlefield (i.e. it's been successfully cast), so the ability fizzles, the enchantment does not go to the graveyard however.

  • posted a message on Why is trading for eternal staples for cheap wrong if BOTH players are happy?
It's a problem if the guy you are trading against doesn't know how much the fetchlands are worth. To him they might be useless but if he knew they were worth a reasonable amount he might think twice before trading them cheaply.

So I've recently been tempted to delve into the fabulous world of Linux. And I guess I have a few minor questions, most of them out of my ignorance of the topic (i'm taking classes, but we won't touch any "real" operating systems for a few weeks, about 1 1/2 months). I'm going to read the FAQ's and any other general information I can scrounge up in the next hour or so.

So i guess my questions are:
    1. How useful would you say Linux is?
    2. How does interact with Avast!, Open Office, and their ilk?
    3. I understand there are multiple different versions of linux, kinda like cousins of each other, which do you prefer, and why?
    4. How simple is it to use with another OS?
    5. How much effort is involved with it?

The question you should first answer is "What do you want out of your operating system?". It's important to realise this.

I used to try and do all of my computing on the one system but this never worked. I now use all three on Windows, Linux and Mac for three uses. Windows is on my gaming box which sits powered off for most of the time, most of the time I'm on my MacBook as really it has all the power of UNIX in a nice lazy user environment when I need it, I use Linux servers mostly for messing around with system administration and the like (not so much for "standard" use, unless I'm using a campus computer). That being said, if I were to go back to having just on computer with just one OS, it would be a Linux box for sure. I should point out I'm studying Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, most of my time is spent coding (either for university or as a hobby), so having a UNIX terminal is important to me.

Let me put this under "Things that wont work". Lands get put into play first with creatures and artifacts. Nothing would be in play before this so good luck triggering Landfall.

Uwb Landstill would be a strong choice for that metagame if you have alot of experience with Landstill in tournaments. But I wouldn't really recommend landstill to someone that's new to the format.

To be honest, I would recommend playing something else like Goblins or Ugr Canadian Thrash instead. At least, those two decks have a much better chance against all three of those decks then landstill does on a regular basis. Landstill can be pretty unforgiving if you make play errors especially against decks like merfolks and heck even Pox.

Thanks, I understand that the deck might not be the best choice to start with, but I feel it would be better to just jump in the deep end and play something I will enjoy in the long run than something I will be able to do well with from the start. I'll proxy up some lists and see how I go. I won't be competing in an major tournaments for a while, the legacy scene here is a bit dead but there are still quite a few legacy players around, which is nice.
