The End of an Era

It seems like it would be great as a 1-of in a Trinket Mage toolbox, along with probably Voltaic Key to power some Lux Cannon deck (like people have been saying).

Anyone ever thought that they had two design teams making two set simultaneously? It could be possible that this set got "leaked" to convince us when they're really gonna throw Mirrodin Pure at us. It's unlikely but it's always possible. Think about how awesome that would be--probably the first time that Wizards truly beat the Rumor Mill.

I'd at least give honorable mention to Bellowing Tanglewurm. Green creatures are known for being big and not having evasion. This gives all your green creatures an evasion ability. In a green-enough deck, this thing may as well be Overwhelming Stampede plus a 4/4.

See this is why I love threads like this. It brings to light cards that aren't bad that have some possibilities of being considered for something.

Personally I think Sunblast Angel is an amazing card that needs to see more play. Wrath on a finisher is so very good.

If you can there's a Turbo Wave deck that centers around Ob. It's nicknamed Nixilis Wave. My friend plays it and it's pretty much warp world.

Right of course it doesn't need vigilance. Thanks a ton though; I knew my friend was wrong.

Suppose you have a Celestial Colonnade with five other lands to activate it while staring down two attackers that are 3/3s. Now say I make the Colonnade a creature, block one 3/3 and then tap the colonnade to add W to my mana pool to Condemn the other 3/3. Will the creature that the Colonnade is blocking die (supposing nothing else happens)? Can creatures with activated abilities that have vigilance tap after they block and still deal damage?

Bump. Are 4 Clasps too much?

Just My list. Figured A more aggresive route with some mini-tech in there could put up a decent threat. Contagion Clasp is just for a sub-par removal spell that can make Golem Foundry a little more effective. Mimic Vat is a way to keep up beats if they blow up a Shinx or to get crazy with an engine.

Golem Foundry is interesting. I think it belongs in a more dedicated artifact deck - not one half artifacts, half blue. Contagion Clasp is really only used for the proliferate - the -1/-1 is just a very small bonus. If there are only 3 cards in your deck that benefit from proliferate, then I think the clasp is not good.

Original deck updated in first post.

I've toned down the proliferating and brought in the classic WoO and Mana Leak for early survival. +2 Halimar Depths for more Venser interaction.

Should I maybe go -1 Ratchet Bomb, +1 Condemn? Maybe not because Ratchet Bomb stays good late game with a proliferating effect, and Venser can blink it to reset the counters. I wanted to fit in Stoic Rebuttals but there was not room.

I don't think permission belongs in this deck. At least not Mana Leak; I am not keeping counter mana open on second turn, ever. HOWEVER, Negate seems very useful and even spell pierce...The only thing is, slots are very tight at this point.

Sea Gate Oracle is not better than Tinker Mage. Not in this deck, never.

Should I up the Wurmcoil Engine to 4??

Original list updated in first post.

Personally I don't see the reason for all of these sac outlets...That's not what I was going for at least and I don't think the deck has all that many creatures to sac. The deck was meant to be a useful toolbox with trinket mage, that can ramp into and play large threats like Wurmcoil Engines and Argent Sphinxes with some good interactions like Mimic Vat and Prototype portal.

Personally I think people are undervaluing Infiltration Lens. Even as a 1-of, it can be fetched with a trinket mage and equipped for almost nothing to make something unblockable, and draw two if they're having pressure. More damage when your opponent doesn't care and more gas when your opponent does care. It's such a good card for such a little mana investment.

I don't the point of having one set of counterspells (Stoic Rebuttal) in this deck. Besides there are better counters that cost less, it all depends on what you want to counter. Negate is much better as you are not really worried about creature spells, if you are worried about a particular creature, Mana Leak is also a good replacement.

Also I would try to improve Mimic Vat + Voltaic Key Combo with Grand Architect and with some kind of sac outlet to sacrifice Wurmcoil Engine tokens. So a base of this could be:

    4 Grand Architect
    4 Trinket Mage
    4 Votaic Key
    4 Mimic Vat

    Potential sacrifice outlets:
Culling Dais - bonus one time card draw
Carnage Alter - bonus repeatable card draw (mana cost of drawing cards should not be a problem)
Jinxed Idol - bonus damage given to opponent and an excellent target for Prototype Portal. You could overrun your opponent with Idol copies and win via that.

Hmm so the consensus I'm getting is that I need more early defense, which I agree is sort of lacking. Stoic Rebuttal seems lacking, and it did seem out of place to me. I just assumed--blue deck, artifacts, stoic rebuttal is good. That seems like a good card to replace for early defense. However, which card would that be...I really like Riddlesmith and I don't intend to take him out. He can swing/block for 2 early game and generates pseudo card-advantage without tapping.

What early 'defense' could I add to stave off bum rushes in blue?
