The guy got lucky in all his matches, dodged horrible matchups all day and kept talking ☺☺☺☺ about how he was going to win in the top8 and bring the list to the pro tour for block.
I would not consider this as anything but a fluke.
Honestly, I do like the fact that in Vampires it's a semi mindsludge that makes the opponent waste a bolt and cannot be negated. To suggest this card in jund makes me cry.
It simply isn't anywhere near effective, Wizards was honestly smart about WWK. They didn't give us ANY tools whatsoever, they gave other decks tools. Yet no hosers, (which is a different argument and one I favor btw) to deal with us directly. From my perspective, you overdosed on Johnny.
That's incorrect, Whenever a creature with [deathtouch] deals damage to another creature, latter creature is destroyed, regardless of the creature's toughness. So yes, the cunning sparkmage can kill by pinging.
The latest reminder text for Deathtouch reads "Creatures dealt damage by this creature are destroyed. You can divide this creature's combat damage among any of the creatures blocking or blocked by it."
Jund:
-3 Maelstrom Pulse
-2 Lightning bolt/ -2 Terminate (Bolts stay if they have GSS)
+3 Ruinblaster
+2 Mind Rot
At first glance, you might ask: Why only 3 Ruinblasters? I personally believe that in the mirror, ruinblasters are only good in your opening hand and on the play. Running 3 opened up a slot for the extra terminate as I expect to play against naya (It has just won w6rlds).
Furthermore, I found that when playing mirror, I only sided in 3 when on the draw. In fact, ruinblaster becomes increasing worse when playing against the leechless version that has rampant growths and now possibly explores.
I also feel more confidant playing a bloodbraid on turn 4 and not having to worry about leaving R open.
-3 Maelstrom Pulse
-2 Broodmate Dragon
-1 Bituminous Blast -1 Garruk Wildspeaker +3 Jund Charm
+3 Malakir Bloodwitch
+1 Terminate
All you need to worry about is their nuts draw, so you bring in all your instant removal and hope to kill off their early creatures.
Grixis Control:
-2 Terminate
-3 Bituminous Blast
-3 Maelstrom Pulse/ -3 Lightning Bolts (If they are planeswalker heavy, keep pulses)
+2 Mind Rot
+3 Malakir Bloodwitch
+3 Goblin Ruinblaster
Malakirs goes in as an flashfreeze proof threat. Not much to say about this easy match-up. Oh, and keep bolts incase they bring in Vampire Nigthawk. Speaking of witch (haha), if you expect them to bring in Malakirs as well, go:
-4 Bolt instead of -2 Terminate and -2 Maelstorm Pulse.
White Weenie:
-4 Sprouting Thrinax
-1 Borderland Ranger
-1 Bituminous Blast
-1 Broodmate Dragon
+3 Jund Charm
+3 Malakir Bloodwitch
+1 Terminate (Only if they have baneslayer)
With the debut of Kor Firewalker, I doubt the effectiveness of terminates and Jund Charm.
Vampires: -1 Anything +1 Terminate
Easy matchup.
Naya:
Tricky Matchup. I sometimes side in jund charms if they run a whole bunch of accel such as birds/noble/ and even steward of valeran.
But the standard board is:
-4 Sprouting Thrinax
-2 Broodmate Dragon
-1 Bituminous Blast
+3 Goblin Ruinblaster
+3 Malakir Bloodwitch
+1 Terminate
RWU Control:
I'll explain this at the end of this post.
-1 Lightning Bolt
-3 Maelstrom Pulse
-3 Bituminous Blast +2 Mind Rot
+3 Malakir Bloodwitch
+3 Fleshbag Marauder
Malakir is unflashfreezable, also gets past walls. Normally you would take out sporuting thrinax against a white deck to blank their paths/purges but you need all the creatures you need, plus it combos well with the fleshbag.
Terminates are kept in to kill the baneslayers/mindcontroled.
RDW:
Contrary to popular belief, I do not think this deck is a bad matchup. Even more so with kor firewalker in the format, I don't expect to see this guys once you enter the later rounds.
-3 Maelstrom Pulse
-1 Putrid Leech
Sometimes, if I'm feeling a bit adventurous, I go -3 more Leech and +3 Jund Charm. +3 Dragon's Claw
+1 Terminate
So far, Dragon's Claw has not been that impressive. I think something like Shadowfeed should go in its slot. Shadowfeed has been amazing vs unearths because it gains you 6 vs hellsparks and 7 vs thunders.
Dragon Claws are gone and so are Shadowfeeds due to my speculation that RDW is on the decline. (Kor Firewalker WILL be played vs Jund and that affects RDW tremendously).
Fleshbag Maraduer are in for the UWR matchup. Despite what anyone says, Vampire Nighthawk is bad. It needs to swing people! Swing vs a control deck! It doesn't even answer the problem. The wall can still block your other creatures.
I'm still torn between 3 Charms/1 Smother and 2 Charms/2 Smother. Smother is such a good card vs so many decks such as Junk, WW, Mirror and is even an answer to Kor Firewalker (I know your sick of hearing about this guy, but imagine PLAYING against it.)
Edit: Now that I think about it, Smother doesn't kill Baneslayer. Silly me. Terminate is back.
Edit2: Can't believe I forgot boros bushwacker! Also fixed the Naya and WW sideboard.
Deathj, stop trying to sound like you know everything.
For the record, I watched a majority of his matches. Almost all his opponents were either total idiots or unlucky with mana screw.
I even stayed to the end because I also made top8.
Use your head.
I would not consider this as anything but a fluke.
Which reminds me, just ask and maybe we'll play a few games.
The mirror is obviously the biggest challenge for Jund, as the sideboard and luck (mostly luck) factor in more than you think.
Fixed the WW and Naya Matchup, also added BB. Can't believe I forgot that!
Anyways, I don't have much time as I have classes to attend. I would really like to hear people's experiences in testing with Duress.
We got smother!
And yes, way too Johnny.

The latest reminder text for Deathtouch reads "Creatures dealt damage by this creature are destroyed. You can divide this creature's combat damage among any of the creatures blocking or blocked by it."
Uses mana to activate.
Does nothing except produce 3 1/1's if the commander is killed.
Not very good in the mirror, especially if you play rampant growth, as a five mana cost spell leaves you vulnerable to blightning.
I played this list to a top4 finish at the starcity 5k:
4 Bloodbraid Elf
1 Borderland Ranger
3 Broodmate Dragon
4 Putrid Leech
4 Sprouting Thrinax
3 Bituminous Blast
4 Lightning Bolt
2 Terminate
3 Garruk Wildspeaker
4 Blightning
3 Maelstrom Pulse
3 Mountain
4 Swamp
3 Dragonskull Summit
4 Rootbound Crag
4 Savage Lands
4 Verdant Catacombs
3 Dragon's Claw
3 Goblin Ruinblaster
3 Malakir Bloodwitch
3 Jund Charm
1 Terminate
2 Mind Rot
-3 Maelstrom Pulse
-2 Lightning bolt/ -2 Terminate (Bolts stay if they have GSS)
+3 Ruinblaster

Boros Bushwacker:
-3 Maelstrom Pulse
-1 Garruk Wildspeaker
+3 Jund Charm
+1 Terminate
If they are the midrange version with Elspeths:
-3 Maelstrom Pulse
-2 Broodmate Dragon
-1 Bituminous Blast
-1 Garruk Wildspeaker
+3 Jund Charm
+3 Malakir Bloodwitch
+1 Terminate
All you need to worry about is their nuts draw, so you bring in all your instant removal and hope to kill off their early creatures.

I believe the base deck list should be traditional jund.
Those Touhou alters, especially the standstill, had me literally laughing out loud.
Let there be mana crypt ><
