Jul 20, 2010Cruxshadow13 posted a message on NOOB Green DeckSad to say, a lot of these cards are too old to be used in FNM. Maro, Thorn Elemental, Primal Command, Blanchwood Armor, Mirri's Guile, Dryad, and Primal Rage are out of standard right now. Standard allows cards from the Shards block (Shards of Alara, Conflux, Alara Reborn), Zendikar Block (Zendikar, Worldwake, Rise of the Eldrazi), and the 2010 and 2011 Core Sets. A good way to pump your creatures instead of Blanchwood is Boar Umbra, which can give you a little insurance against kill spells. Maro and Thorn can be replaced by other big creatures like Avenger of Zendikar, which would be great if you run more ways to get lands out like Harrow or Rampant Growth. With Mirri's Guile gone, if you want a way to manipulate your library, getting dead draws out of the way, try running Crystal Ball. It looks like a solid Start if you can find a few more standard cards. These cards are a little on the cheap side since you're just starting, but they're all good, and can let you beat on a few of the other players you're bound to meet. Good Luck!Posted in: linkon855 Blog

Nov 15, 2009Cruxshadow13 posted a message on One of the worst FNM's of my life. It was definitely Friday the 13th.People were complaining about me getting top 3 every week for 6 weeks in a row, so I built another deck to try and have some fun with...and went 0-2-3. Yeah, 3 draws. Someone's going back to B/R Aggro next week.Posted in: Cvipertooth Blog

I dropped Beck//Call for Rancor, slipped in Mutavault, and went more a more aggressive deck. It still utilizes all the excess mana and board-swarming speed, dropping plenty of pressure on the board and killing with a swarm of pumped elves off of Craterhoof or Door. I'm not sure on Farseek or Soul in this build, though, so they might get replaced. The sideboard is a work in progress as of now, but it'll probably include Ranger's Guile. I've also considered Champion of Lambholt as another dude to put heavy pressure on early and giving everyone evasion.

Mine is more of a Graveyard-based Aggro deck that uses a lot of resilient creatures. Using Grisly Salvage and Lotleth Troll, I can reliably use Deathrite Shaman and Varolz. Varolz is incredible in a list with Gravecrawler and Strangleroot Geist playing with him, allowing cheap easy regeneration without losing board presence. Divine Verdict is ignored by or enhances virtually every creature in the main, while each becomes monstrous from interactions between Lotleth Troll and Gravecrawler or Verolz and Grisly Salvage giving me a nice hearty Graveyard to pile on a Trampler. Some of the more Experimental cards include Drown in Filth and Rogue's Passage. I haven't decided one way or the other on either, but I absolutely love to see Drown in Filth after I've used Grisly Salvage. It lets me clear a creature and put some more ammo in my graveyard at the same time, and realistically will always certainly be at least -2/-2 unless maybe you cast it turn two. Maindecking Deathrite Shaman is stunning with such a build, becoming a Grim lavancer and invalidating Snapcaster as early as turn three in the Control mirror. In short, removal Blanks, Aggro has some trouble punching through all the cheap resilient fat and removal, and Control can't handle the fast clock paired with the reach this deck has, commonly being able to plow over a Thragtusk drop.

The Sideboard's been kind of wonky after tons of little bugs I have to iron out, but all in all it's been pretty solid. I'm not sold on Diregraf Ghoul, but I feel like I won't be quite as aggressive if I swap to Arbor Elf or Tracker, which I've already tested and wasn't impressed by. experiment One is phenomenal, and I recommend anyone that hasn't tried it to give it a chance. It's always a turn two 2/2, and I love to swing in hard early with him, Strangleroot, and Dreg Mangler setting up eight power on turn three hasting at their life total. If it were a zombie, I'd still be running it over Diregraf, but I'm likely to switch them back soon anyway. Deadbridge Goliath loves to sit in my hand all day, and I never really have the opportunity that I want to see it. My removal set is working well, but I can't knock down bigger creatures very easily like Olivia Voldaren and other non Abrupt Decay or Ultimate Priceable creatures that run around here. Grisly Salvage has been smoothing my draws out nicely if I get stuck on an awkward hand after a few turns, and fills my graveyard with plenty of swag for Gravecrawler, scavenge creatures, and plenty of fuel for Deathrite Shaman to keep going into the endgame or accelerate into Garruk or Deadbridge to clean up. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

He was actually really cool. One of the nicest celebrities I've ever met. He even did random quotes from Batman and Family Guy that the crowd demanded.
I've also met various musicians, such as Voltaire, Abney Park, The Cruxshadows, etc. I've also played games of Magic with Richard Garfield and Mark Rosewater, and had a discussion of the Faerie-dominated metagame with Matt Cavotta before. Also, Todd Lockwood is the nicest guy you'll ever meet in your life. Daarken is not. He was not a very kind person when I met him.
