I would like to fit 1 or 2 Take down or 1 more dismember for spirit bant, or should I not worry about it? Also which decks is wild defience good against? only burn and zoo? Is naturalize worth it to go against chalice of the void?
I ask about Mana leak because I seem to get blown out by spell queller, I'm getting crushed by spirit bant like it's not even fair...All the flash and CoCo and spell Queller omgf. I feel like I need 4x dismember but would probabyl just die to my own pain lands, I also want to try out take down, what ya'll think? and At least with Mana leak it would punish them for playing "land go" and just waiting to counter anything I play.
Anybody attend a recent modern Gp event before and can let me know what the meta looks like at these bigger events? I'm trying to stack my SB towards the bad matchups but dunno which cards to cut or run. So far
I'm going to try with the mutagenic growth, but with the IoK if you encounter with as a UW you can discard its Mana Leak.
Shouldn't the GB Infect comments be on another thread?
Not hating on anybody in particular, but it isn't quite the same deck and doesn't have the numbers to justify being discussed here in the Tier 1 forum. It also just kind-of detracts from meaningful conversation about UG builds. It feels very wrong to see the latest discussion of arguably the best thread for the arguably the best deck in Modern is about builds that don't run Blighted Agent and Mutagenic Growth..
I agree.
That being said, I am new to piloting the deck and will be at Gp Dallas this weekend. Can anybody please shed some light on game play and sideboard choices (good vs bad matchups?). So far I've been stone dead to sun and moon if they can turn 2 chalice of the void and turn 3 blood moon. For this reason I've thought of adding an island and playing 4x misty rainforest. As well as going up to 4x spell pierce in SB. What do you veterans think? Also Kitchen finks or pulse of murasa. And is dredge a bad matchup for us? Is grafdigger's cage a 3 of or 2 of in the sideboard? What do we do about blessed alliance? spellskite main deck? Rancor or distortion strike? 1 or 2 pendel haven? Dryad arbor SB or MD? 2 or 3 dismembers? cut apostle's blessing entirely? 3 or 4 blossoming defense?Any discussion would be helpful thank you.
Hey guys, I've been playing the control/midrange version of the deck for a while with success. But now that fate reforged is in, I'm struggling with some of the new cards and was hoping to get some input to get a better sideboard. Decks I seem to be struggling with are the new sultai control and U/B control now that they have access to crux of fate and ugin, the spirit dragon. frontier siege is also really hard to play against especially when they slam back to back huge "must answer threats" on turns 4-8.
Does anybody have a specific strategy when playing against these decks and are there any sideboard cards that help? I'm contemplating with back to nature, fleecemane lion, rakshasa's secret, Thanks in advance!
Thank you for the response DragonFox1001. Could I please get a second opinion on this matter, I just want to make certain that this is the correct way to play since I plan on playing with courser of kruphix in all of my decks now.
Thank you for the responses and I'm referring to comp/pro REL.
So both players would get a warning? Is it both player's responsibility to maintain the courser of kruphix effect? Meaning if I forget to reveal my top card and this was my 3rd warning. My opponent notices it but does not mention it hoping to get a game loss. What would happen then?
It depends on the REL. At Regular REL (FNM, prerelease, Game Day, etc), the card would be revealed and you would both be told to play more carefully. There's no such thing as a Warning at Regular REL.
At Comp/Pro REL, you would receive a Warning for Game Player Error - Game Rule Violation and your opponent would receive a Warning for Game Play Error - Failure To Maintain Game State. The card would be revealed and you would continue playing.
I have Courser of Kruphix on the battlefield. I flip the top card, it's a land, play the land, change my life total, then forget to flip over the top card again. I pass the turn, my opponent passes back. I proceed to draw a card but before I draw my opponent points out that my top card is not flipped over. I understand this is a violation but can someone explain to me exactly how it works and if I can somehow undo this careless mistake. Thanks in advance!
I play an Elspeth, Sun's Champion, +1, adding a loyalty counter but not putting in my tokens into play. Pass the turn, then remember during my opponent's turn that I forgot to put the tokens into play. Do I get my tokens or not? Thanks in advance!
+1 look at the top 2 cards of your library, put one of them in your graveyard and the other into your hand.
-2 return another target nonland permanent to its owner's hand.
-7 exile target player's hand, draw 10 cards. You have an emblem with "you have no maximum hand size"
Mark up for sure with anything not available at target/walmart, but even those are marked up at LGSs since demand is what increases the price. Would it be possible for them to have a modern even deck GP?
I wonder if they'll add in random foils to the mix. It also mentions "drawing on rares" meaning there won't be mythics? Also looks like there will be some current standard cards printed and is intended for modern, but it doesn't mention if the cards are all modern legal. Could there be banned modern cards in there to support legacy? Just me thinking outloud...
Ajani Vengeant: Good against aggro/midrange because of Helix for -2, good against control/Tron because of mana-disrupting +1 and one-sided Armageddon ult, meh against combo (he needs other disruption to get that far, but his ult is GG)
Chandra, Pyromaster: Good against formats full of X/1's because she machine guns them, good against midrange/control because of her virtual card draw, very meh against combo/Tron because she can't draw cards fast enough
Huntmaster of the Fells: Good against aggro/midrange because of the bodies, life, and dude-killing (don't expect him to flip back), bad against red board wipes because of his double X/2 bodies
Olivia Voldaren: Good against creature decks that have trouble killing her (Affinity/Pod/GW Hatebears), decent against midrange because of her big, evasive body and dude-killing/-stealing, meh against combo because she can't kill or grow fast enough (well, unless they're on Twin)
Kitchen Finks: Good against aggro/midrange/control because it comes back from the dead and gains life, bad against graveyard hate because it can't come back from the dead anymore (reconsider playing it after smacking into too much Jund/Melira Pod/GW Hatebears)
Fulminator Mage: Good against control/combo/Tron because LD is fun, bad against aggro because they can play more stuff on 2 lands than you can
Thank you for the breakdown!
I guess I'll stick with Ajani since my meta is half affinity/gruul aggro and half twin/scapeshift/tron. Please let me know if I'm making the wrong choice.
Hey guys, I just started playing this modern jund deck and haven't decided on white splash or not. I do love lingering souls but I'm not sure what to do with Ajani most of the time. I'm currently running him as a two of but which decks is he optimal against?
I've noticed the Jund shells are pretty much the same +/- man lands and 3/4 drops. Can anybody help me out and tell me which of these 3/4 drops is used in which meta?
Ajani Vengeant
Chandra, Pyromaster
Huntmaster of the Fells

Maindeck Fulminator Mage?
Also would vengevine hurt us too much with bob? just a thought.

Can somebody explain to me what's going on in this @ 12:45? He seems to use vines of vastwood on the opponent's spellskite to resolve 2 groundswells for lethal. Does this actually work, the spellskite cannot redirect those groundswells? I thought you people used vines of vastwood on opponent's creatures to fizzle pump spells, so I'm kind of confused. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CTd_gvcW9Y
Also what do people think about essence scatter, mana leak or corrupted resolve against spirit bant or Jeskai? I'm trying to find ways to improve the bad matchups.
I agree.
