Burt Gummer from Tremors is an easy one for me as that is how I normally dress.

Load all of your friends (hopefully atleast one that resembles Kevin Bacon) into a trailer hitched to a tractor. Then drive around yelling "were headed for the mountains". That would be a boss costume!

My son is going as Batman, My daughter is going as Catwoman and I have pieced together a nice Bane cosplay this year. We are also wearing these to the San Antonio Comicon the weekend before Halloween.

That really screws up things, though. Does that mean that since I don't like beets, I'm fasting?

I was thinking more of the clinical definition, such as fasting blood sugar. That is, eating nothing.

(Which is also the definition used by plains Indians, by the way. Only there it's no food, drink, or sex.)

I was pretty sure it sounds like another one trying to get in on the "paleo" fad.

Except that no, it's not a thing. Muscles don't get "confused" because they don't have brain cells. It is known.

It's more, vitamin pills are useful if you're starving or on an inherently deficient diet (such as vegans with vitamin B12), but most people don't need them. And anything else is just a backdoor to market a drug that wouldn't get FDA approval.

/If you do not eat something because you do not enjoy that does not mean you are fasting. Fasting is giving up foods/drinks you love which is very hard to do. During my fast I gave up all pleasant food and subsisted on water, fruits, veggies and nuts (mostly almonds).
/Sure the name "primal" could be misleading in that case but maybe you could look into something before you begin attacking someone.
/The muscle confusion principal does not imply that your muscles have "brain cells". That is ridiculous. It is meant to avoid muscle accommodation where you body, in essence, gets used to the stresses being applied over and over. Just because no "scientific" evidence exist to prove muscle confusion is the real deal that does not automatically imply it does not work either. Every workout, whether you are meant to have gain/loss results instead of simply maintaining, incorporates some sort of muscle confusion on either a small or larger scale.
If I were to do 50lb hammer curls for weeks and months on end it would eventually become so simple that your body no longer needs to improve to lessen the stress applied. Now say I increase that weight to 65lb barbells and continue to do hammer curls those would feel more difficult until my body accommodated once again. This is the simplest example of what muscle confusion is.
Here is a good article on it being used to muscle gain, where in my example I used it for weight loss.

You do realize that the FDA is lobbied by corporate interests just like any other government entity? People die from FDA approved treatments and medicines all the time. Example

Seriously, though, you're not fasting if you're eating something. And I don't even need to point out that we've been over the foolishness of "primal" diets of all sorts. tl;dr: Nobody actually lives like some early H. sapiens on the Serengeti, who would get food at somewhat random intervals, and exercise a lot. Also,
    we never stopped evolving

You know "muscle confusion" is bull****, right? (Besides the obvious fact that muscles don't have brain cells to confuse.) You just need to add more resistance to avoid a plateau.

Okay, I've been having fun with you so far, but Jack3d?

Note that no dietary supplement is "safe and effective", since only two studies have to prove them safe (and the manufacturer gets to pick which ones!), and no studies have to prove them effective.

That's how the supplement industry is currently.

    #1.
    /fast/
    verb
verb: fast; 3rd person present: fasts; past tense: fasted; past participle: fasted; gerund or present participle: fasting
    1. abstain from all or some kinds of food or drink, esp. as a religious observance.
    #2.
The primal diet never claimed to have anyone revert to a cro-magnon state of living. That would be utterly ridiculous in this day and age. It instead focuses on the core eating principals of what healthy food is.
    #3.
Muscle confusion doesn't work for all people, true. It worked for me.
    #4.
As for your comment on supplements, that is why you need to see a doctor before you use them. What works for me works for me.

@9909- I am currently in the military and I was in a bad way weight wise after a back injury that lasted over a year. I gained 30ish lbs (at a high of 236 lbs) and had a 38% body fat (roughly 90lbs of fat if I remember correctly). My job depended on me losing my ill gotten weight.
I visited my Doctor (which everyone should do before changing diet or beginning an exercise regimen) and she helped me out line a plan. The plan was as follows-

    FOOD
-Daniel fast for 21 days. Despite this fast having religious roots the principles are the same with any fast, healthy natural foods to help cleanse your system. You can only drink water for the fast which was difficult as I was a soda/Monster Energy addict but I did break the addiction in about 72 hours. More awesome than anything was I was pretty much eating all the time so I never felt hungry. Some of it is not the most awesome stuff to eat but the fruits and nuts will carry your cravings and bushels of vegetables will keep you full! After I was done with the fast I had dropped 18 lbs.
    http://danielfast.wordpress.com/2007/12/29/21-day-daniel-fast-2/

-This was followed by slowly integrating lean meats back into my diet and beginning to follow the "Primal Diet" lifestyle (I was so happy I could have rice and potatoes again as well). Now a typical meal is something to the tune of a steak, steamed broccoli and a baked potato topped with salsa! I eat 5-7x a day and never feel hungry. I still drink mostly water but occasionally indulge in coffee's, tea's, soda's and chocolates here and there. I have pretty much sworn off fast food.

This website is a new one with great recipe's I started using.
    http://wwjme.com/category/food/

    EXERCISE
As for workouts, lets be honest, Air Force PT is a joke so I learned to "Bring It" and "Dig Deep"!
    P90x
    INSANITY
These are a little pricey but both are worth it. I did P90x first (you will need resistance bands and a pullup bar) and did INSANITY after a 7 day break from finishing up P90x. I still rotate workouts till this day with one week break intervals between.
As for cardio during the P90x (trust me you wont need it during INSANITY) I used this training method for 5K's starting with the novice program.
    http://www.halhigdon.com/training/50933/5K-Novice-Training-Program

    SUPPLEMENTSI use
    Jack3d for my pre-workout
    GNC Amp XXX Creatine post-workout
Promasil Protein powder post-workout (this stuff tastes like a milkshake when you mix it with cold almond milk!!)
I also take multivitamins and some extra calcium since I am turning into an old man.

Now the above programs and supplements are not for everyone and like I said earlier you should see your doctor and let them take a look at what you would like to do before you get started. This works for me and maybe it will work for you!?

I am still in the military and am 198(ish) lbs and have 21%(ish) body fat.

    Good luck friend!

I appreciate this, and wish more anti-gunners realized that Hyp3r represents most pro-gun/pro-2A people I know. Despite the stereotype, most of us aren't backwater yokels looking for an excuse to pull the trigger.

I wish more people realized it too.

BTW, going to the range this weekend. My friend thinks he can change my preference from the xdm to the PX4. I will post if my taste changes, though I highly doubt it will. A reason to practice is a reason to practice though!

You guys who 'carry'... what do you mean by that? Like, if you went to the corner shop (or colonial equivalent) for a pint of milk and loaf of bread, would you be packing heat? What about FNM?

No political/gun control judgements here, I'm just curious as an English person who doesn't have the option. I _think_ I'd be a bit worried about wandering around with a deadly weapon, but I'm just wondering if they're more for special occasions than 'every time I leave the house'.

I carry mine everywhere (Wal-Mart, movie theaters, going out for dinner) unless it is prohibited by law or the establishment has a sign posted prohibiting carry on the premises. And I carry mine for defense against humans. I have never had to fire my pistol but I am positive it saved me and my wife a terrible experience (possibly even our lives) one night by drawing it and being assertive in our defense. Despite what most people think about concealed carry holders I am not blood thirsty. I have over 8 years of service in the military and I thank the lord every day that I have never killed anyone and I don't want that to ever change.

Proof? No. Combat shooting is not an exact science. I do not claim the 9mm is incapable of doing a lot of damage. However, I submit as evidence that in 14+ years as a US Army Military Police SRT member (Special Reaction Team, the army equivalent of SWAT) all the training I recieved and every expert I talked to taught to double tap with any weapon 9mm and under. This is not proof.. but I will go with it. YMMV.

Well I will agree with that testament. Then again, in the right situation you can be certain I would double tap with a .45 ACP.
After all it is rule #2 to survive zombie land :p

SRT huh.....your a wild man ::::::::tips hat to you:::::::

Outstanding. I am happy to see the moderators are a good bunch that can truly see a subject from all angles. I feel the restrictions put on the discussion would be adhered to no matter what, as most law abiding firearm owners live my a similar set of rules.

@ Uncle Isty, thanks for carrying the flag in that fight for us. I am glad you were polite and level headed about it. The firearm community needs more of that considering the majority of the world considers us blood hungry beasts...

With that said, I was wondering what was the consensus of my fellow firearm owners in the MTG community on using a .22 for self defense? I have a Ruger 10/22....so I have tons of the ammo and have been "thinking" about picking up a .22 pistol as a secondary pistol in an ankle holster to supplement my primary. Thoughts?

    Edit*
(for 9mm you really have to divide ammo capacity by 2 because you have to double-tap to ensure a takedown. And any thing larger than .40 is going to have awkward handgrips for anybody not named Shaquille Oneal if the ammo capacity is more than 10.)

Can you provide proof that it takes a double tap from a 9mm to drop an aggressor? I have seen 9mm ball round FMJ do plenty of damage, not to mention a 9mm Jacketed hollow point. And don't forget, marksmanship is important with any caliber.

I own and carry a Springfield Xdm 9mm 4.5. My wife just traded in her Ruger LC9 for a Springfield Xds 9mm. We both love the design and safety features of the XD series with the added bonus that it is insanely reliable and chews through every type of ammo we have put through them.

As for those who might think the 9mm is not good for self defense, it is the go to caliber in warfare. That is enough proof for me right there.

Home defense are different monsters all together. My go to is a mossberg 12 gauge and my wife has the dreaded AR 15....

I've played against kids who were completely oblivious, and after I crushed them, I gave them free cards and pointers to help them out. Do the whole big brother thing. I've always enjoyed helping out new players. They always appreciate it so much. You can give a newbie a handful of commons and uncommons, and you make their week.

    This.

I started Playing in 4th Edition when I was 12. Started playing in a local game store on Sundays for the tourney's and was crushed the first day by a bunch of dudes that had to have been in the 20's and 30's, but they all helped me with tips and cards. They even helped me streamline my goblin deck I was running (they all pitched in some Goblin Kings, Goblin Grenades and Incinerates, a couple bucks at most). Over the next few weeks I started winning some games and learning tech. I eventually compiled a G/W Erhnam-geddon over a few months and became a "competitive" player.

The fact that I lost a lot didn't bother me because they would always school me afterward. Heck, it made losing worth it really.

Just play the kids like any other and be a helpful part of the community. I will throw tips to streamline the deck or even just basic combat tricks if they are still learning. Never hurts to hook a new player up with a few staple commons/uncommons and a couple dollar rares either.

Evil is inherent in the presence of good. As long as good people exist there will be bad people who want to do bad things, this would hold true even if guns did not exist (at which point I am certain we would all simply carry daggers or short swords).

Myself being a carrier of a concealed weapon, I do not invite violence of any kind as I do not brandish my weapon as I walk around town with it acting tough (its illegal to brandish in Texas anyway). In truth, I respect my weapon to the point that I hope I never have to draw it because I know what it is for and I respect life too much to want to take someones. I will however, defend my wife and children with my life and I will use any equalizer/force multiplier I can to survive should the situation ever arise.

A gun owned by a well trained, honest, respectable and good person is no more of a threat to anyone than a house fly.

I have carried mine through WAL-MARTS, TARGETS, Malls, out to dinners and a movies with my wife and even my LGS owner knows I carry in store. I have caused no violence by carrying my weapon, but GOD help the man who tries to hurt my family or friends while I am present.

“The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles.”
