Are the people saying "rares aren't necessarily more powerful!" the same ones saying "Sunsinger has to be rare because it's really powerful"?
It doesn't need to be rare. There's nothing about the card that makes it rare. It's not powerful, it's not dangerous in limited, it's not complicated, it's not legendary. It's not anything that makes a card have to be rare. It could be common and I wouldn't have flinched. Restless Apparition is better.
Let me know if you ever get out more than one of these guys at the same time, and manage to also get :symg::symg::symg: :symr::symr::symr: :symw::symw::symw: in your mana pool, and your opponent doesn't Shock one of them. There are waaaaay easier ways to win
I would think that a potential 5/5 on turn 3 would be nothing to scoff at.
Sure, her "share" ability is kinda cute and can be attainable in both limited and constructed, but I don't think that's where she will truly shine. Add in Exalted and you get a little more bang for your buck.
Consider the following picks/plays in limited: Nacatl, Sunsinger, Thoctar... Assuming no disruption or blockers (this is on paper after all), that's 20 points of damage done on t4. This will probably happen less than 1% of the time in limited, but it will still happen. Even if you don't get to go for the win on t4 in this fashion, you may still have gotten them to 13 and have a Thoctar ready to block AND have beef to survive until you throw down your Razer or Cerodon or Meglonoth or what-have-you.....
I believe her being rare is appropriate for her limited capabilities. I do agree, that there are far easier ways to win than getting multiples of her out and pumping them up to ridiculous heights. I'd rather slap down an army of saproling tokens/goblin tokens and spend that mana on an Ultimatum.
@topic: The arts are great and I cannot wait to start busting packs! Artifact Jellyfish FTW! Sedraxis Alchemist's flavor text is great.
Well, with 8 mana available and 2 turns to get him active (assuming he will take that long), I would hope you would win with those 2 extra turns that he has granted you. Hence, he'd leave you to do it alone... (totally from a flavor perspective)
I like Wilt-Leaf Liege. He's a decent creature (with great creature types) and makes your other guys a bit stronger on the field (specially those Finks!). The undiscardability also makes it decent with Thoughtseize being thrown around in most control decks nowadays..
But he competes with Colossus/Garruk for the 4cc spot, so I believe he'd probably be good out of the board if you feel that you'll be facing many seizes..
Elf vs. Wayfinder:
Elf: GRB Ramp up to Violent Ultimatum/Broodmate/Hellkite Overlord
Wayfinder: GB or GBW Either use it to make that 8th land drop for a huge Colossus, or retrace Raven's Crime/Worm Harvest/Syphon Life
anyone else think that a low-curve zoo varient in standard is looking insane right about now? considering that zoo colors get two protection bears, a mana-vigilance bear, and a haste bear it's looking like a low curve beatfest is going to be viable post-conflux..
Brainfart. Yeah, that's what I meant... I couldn't remember the templating on the pup
If Scarland Thrinax would be dealt damage, instead it deals that damage to you.
Punisher effect? and less hasseling than not being able to block....

not to mention, you have equipments that can be really nasty if you don't properly prepare for it...
not to say any of these are game breaking, but if standard zoo becomes as popular as it seems that it will, then I fear...

Look at the top X cards of your library, put one of them into your hand, and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
Does this look somewhat reasonable?
Ajani Vengeant Control decks will really enjoy having another permanent tapped down....
^ Much better than Icy...
