Happy Holidays (belated) and Happy New Year (pending)

    "What's errata?
Wizards will be changing all past cards (via their Oracle system) that previous added colourless mana to instead add C (the diamond symbol). This means that Sol Ring now adds CC to your mana pool, which will be reflected in future printings." bothered me a lot and seems very clunky, I would have preferred this "waste" source to be more like snow than a massive retcon.....

I do love Reflector Mage a lot.

Also Star Wars Episode VII was great.
Loved Rey, she has freckles, we are getting married. FN-2187 holding a lightsabre made me cringe, he deserves death. I was rooting for Kylo to be badass, I loved the phrase "seduced by the light side" and actively seeking the power of the Dark Side but he was too emo and I'm not sure how he was trained because he got his ass kicked.

Random check-in about my life which will be spoilered just in case you don't really care which is perfectly fine

Started Hearthstone again, bought all the expansions, I play Tempo Mage and Secretadin, and limited Face/aggro/overload Shaman. Secretadin is hilariously fun. Second month playing. Hit rank 5 which made me pretty proud. It's a really mindlessly fun game, it's a shame there are no instants. Yes you can burn a ***** ton of money on this if you want.

So February 1st I'm finally getting my instruments to do TO-15 which is toxic volatile organics in air (so GC/MS plus a full Markes system to do the Summa cannisters by trap instead of cryofocusing) which means I'll have the highest/most difficult/most technically hard analysis that the NY State Department of Health concerns Enviornmental labs like mine with, so that's a fun feather for my cap

Women front is still pretty meh but that's fine I suppose

got my personal debt down to around $2k (which was ****ed after my ex left) and now I'm buying a new phone, stay the hell away from credit cards if you can, lesson learned.
Luckily I have 0% interest at the moment.

Might sell off my MtG cards to get the rest of it down but that just feels a bit depressing.

I should really job hunt more.

Living that that is definitely hard, any additional person is just some else to pick up after.
From living with my ex plus two cats to living by myself with the same two cats the amount of ***** I clean is nothing compared to what I used to have to go through.

Anyway I got approved to mentor with the Global STEM Alliance, a part of the NY Academy of Science, for their GLobal H2O challenge where I'll help some high schoolers win a contest, should be fun. http://globalstemalliance.org/imagining-tomorrow-h2o/
    IMAGINING TOMORROW: H2O MENTORING REQUIREMENTS

Imagining Tomorrow: H2O mentoring will take place virtually over a 60-day challenge period from September 16, 2015 - November 15, 2015. During the challenge period, mentors will be working with 3-5 teams (each made up of two students) and guiding them as they design their solutions. Specific responsibilities include:

    - A willingness to post about your current research and relevant information about the challenge area. Post a minimum of 2 times during the 60-days.
    - A willingness to interact with the students by fielding questions as they are working on their solutions. Mentors should expect to be available at least twice a week for approximately 1-2 hours.
    - Reviewing two deliverables (1-2 page outlines). Mentors will have approximately 1 week to respond to groups with feedback after a deliverable is due. Feedback can be brief, but should be constructive.

In addition to the time commitment during the 60 days, mentors will be expected to complete a 45-minute virtual training before they challenge begins.

Mentors should have experience in in water, sustainability, environmental science, technology, and/or innovation.
Now to see if I get approved to do the Science Coaching through the American Chemical Society where I get $500 and go to a school science classroom 6 times a year and help with a lab. http://www.acs.org/content/acs/en/education/outreach/science-coaches.html
Applications for the 2015-16 school year are accepted on a rolling basis until October 30, 2015.
What is an ACS Science Coach?

ACS Science Coaches are chemistry professionals who share their expertise and enthusiasm for science with an elementary, middle, or high school teacher over the course of one school year. They enhance science education, and secure a $500 donation for the school where they volunteer.
Chemistry graduate students, professionals and retirees volunteer to assist one teacher at least six times during one school year to improve the science education experiences of students.

Scienceeeeeee. https://www.riptapparel.com/graveyard/hyrulean-science/ best shirt I've bought in a while.

Friends are an interesting thing. Not to vent too much but I've kind of reached the point where what I love (science and public health) has become so divorced from the common-persons interests it is a bit hard to relate to the point I get introduced as the "really smart friend" and it is almost alienating.

It's hard to imagine either of those things not being in people's interest.

It's partially coming off an a know-it-all and it's also because I'm very up-to-date with most of the big publications (PNAS, Nature, Cell, Science) and some of the lesser (ASCB, ASBC, ASMS)so yeah.. strange times.

With Zendikar I'm really interested in this whole devoid thing, making color identity matter more which I hope they do, and any time you add legacy staples you get more people to play legacy by reducing the barrier of entry.

Although I will say the space usage on the full arts is just not pleasing to me and I greatly do not like any of the new full arts because of the template.

So... with the spoilers so far for Zendikar, WotC has my attention again...

"Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony." <- my favorite quote of theirs

Also I'll never understand women. When I think I made a friend the person just wants to date me. When I want to date someone they are not interested. People suck.

Anyway what I do too is I have this site send me an email whenever this form is updated.

Standard is that bad right now? Sad, kind of expected that, looks better than modern which just looks so clunky (fetch plus shock land is just ouch)

Kind of always wanted a D&T deck, land sis just crazy expensive and not a playstyle I would want but yeah.. pricey.

The lab is environmental so lots of drinking water, asbestos, soil remediation, etc.

    quick little post
living alone has been interesting, lots of video games, talking to cats, but overall tons of productivity and I can honestly say the nicest thing is not picking up dozens of my exes clothes off the floor daily.

Also I love this site and this is something they just published http://www.compoundchem.com/2015/05/07/mass-spectrometry/ I do GC-MS (gas chromatography is the separation technique) so it is a nice little run down on the detector I use and love and the "gold-standard" on particle identification.

Additionally my promotion to Volatiles goes into effect June 1st when my intern becomes full-time and we can bring on another part-timer (yay that means I officially am 1.5 persons.

Ended up officially joining the American Society for Mass Spectroscopy and really want to attend this conference in October http://www.asms.org/conferences/asilomar-conference/asilomar-conference-homepage where the main talk is exactly what I want to be researching (currently just doing enviornmental (EPA, DOH, etc) work)

Very tempted to get a Esper Dragons deck just because it looks fun, opinions? Might just build a different legacy deck, thinking D&T just so I have a deck that isn't playing FoW or Brainstorm.

Let me know when your youtube goes live!

    How's everyone?

Not grinding is why I love games like Smash Bros

Just started Dragon Age Inquisition, it's fun so far. I only got into the beginnings of DA Awakenings before I had to give up for various reasons (Varric, recycling areas, invisible enemy waves) and already I cannot wait to kick Varric out of my party, he's just so cocky I want to turn on party damage so I can kill him off.

Got some MTG cards (dig through time and containment priest) haven't had time to play in maybe a year, might just sell off everything and invest in MTGO.

Any DA I suggestions? I'm playing on Nightmare right now as I think Fire and then Rift Dalish elf Mage/Apostate (Ice looked underwhelming but typically I prefer Ice for freeze and slow effects); second playthrough will be a Templar (S&B probably).
