It's been a while since I've played MTG and a few things are now a little fuzzy. One of the deck ideas I had years ago was to use Ugin's Nexus and Eater of Days. Looking back, the word skip from eater of Days doesn't necessarily sound like my opponent is getting extra turns, but I am not sure if that's the case or not. Can anyone let me know if I could use both of these cards in a casual deck to get a powerful beater? Or am I just out of luck here because the opponent is not actually taking extra turns?
Sorry if the answer is obvious... it's been too long.
I know what commander is. I play the format and I still think it's better to not play cards that benefit multiple players unless it's a team format or you play a group hug deck.
No further assistance needed.
Mods, please lock. Thanks.:lock:
Since I really have little incentive to go, does anyone have any suggestions on where to go to buy this kind of art? I think posters look cheap and intend to frame whatever it is that I would buy. Or should I just suck it up and go to the con?
Without further ado:
14 Island
6 Mountain
3 Shivan Reef
4 Swiftwater Cliff
Creature 5
2 Keranos, God of Storms
3 Mnemonic Wall
1 Anger of the Gods
2 Curse of the Swine
4 Divination
1 Interpret The Signs
4 Master The Way
3 Treasure Cruise
4 Whelming Wave
4 Riddle of Lightning
4 Quiet Contemplation
I am not 100% sure this deck will beat aggro, which usually does better these first few weeks of standard against clunky decks. This isn't a clunky deck though. No difficulty setting up complicated manabases so you can cast three or more colored spells. You just have to wait a few turns to start doing stuff. I definitely think this deck will be able to beat up on all of the players trying to play midrange these next few weeks. None of their removal spells do anything against us, unless we're talking Utter end or Banishing light. And we don't even know that either of those will get played heavily.
There are many times where Master the Way can burn for at least 5 damage. I've had many games where most, if not all, were dealing 7+. And riddle of lightning CAN be bonkers. Especially if you reveal a treasure cruise. It doesn't always hit, but the bulk of the deck lies at 4 or more mana
Hope this sparks some ideas and possibly some fun this weekend.
gatherer.wizards.com is the official card database created by Wizards.
The problem with Scourge and the idea that he blanks removal is faulted. If they see him as a threat, they will remove him. He just sits there and does nothing and encourages players to not block with him in the hopes that he'll get big.
I actually really like broodmaster myself. I don't know what the correct number is, but he's a great mana sink. Kinda how people are using Genesis Hydra, but instead of a potentially free spell, you get baby hydras. Just be careful against the removal heavy black decks who'll cast Hero's Downfall in response. That would really mess up your day.
Thanks for the response Nev. Yeah, I think a 5/5 indestructible is pretty good. Agreed on Ob-Nixilis. I do own a whip and they're budget friendly. Will probably replace one stockpile for a whip. Two might be too many, since I'm using Pharika to turn my creatures into 1/1 snakes. I do need the life gain against the aggro decks that are sure to be rampant for the first few weeks though. And I bet whip would do better overall than Fated Return.
I have thoughtseize as well and may end up putting the two copies in that I own and trade for more in the coming month if I can.
Glad it does not have Rabblemaster in it. That card is busted. Won't stop people from playing it, but it's still cheap @ ~$11 as of now.
Let's try to make this a little more organized. No offense, but I think deck lists should be organized for ease of reading.
Other than being competitive for FNM, what is your goal for the deck? What does it do? Any explanations on card choices?
Into the Roil is not standard legal. Dismiss into dream will no longer be standard legal after the release of Khans of Tarkir on Friday. Same with Elixir of Immortality.
I'm working on a list for a Temur deck as well. I could be wrong, but I do like the idea of Flame-Wreathed Phoenix in the deck. It's one of those cards where the opponent typically puts the counters on the card so you don't get a recurring threat. If they do put the counters on, you get to draw a card and have a 5/5 hasty, flying beater. If they don't you have a 3/3 hasty creature that returns to your hand when it dies. Damned if you do and damned if you don't kind of thing.
I think Phytotitan will be strong if control decks ever get big. Recurring threat, recurring card draw, haste with Ascendancy. Might be a good SB card.
Just some thoughts.
