Your mistake was in asking if you could play a busted deck. You asked the wrong question.

Full credit for being aware enough to know that there would be a mismatch, and that you felt the need to address it; that said, I think you need to be specific on expectations of the group you're joining and make your decisions from there.

For example, I would start with:

"Hey...how do you guys feel about infinite combos?"

And go from there. Figure out the climate, and then decide if you want to be a part of it, but don't drop in and destroy it with your own influence. You're the visitor. Be a good one.

We don't advertise or support any advertising at all - never have, since we started writing back in about 2011.

We're also just a bunch of friends and EDH enthusiasts writing and publishing on a pretty loose schedule. I'm not sure I even know how to track the clicks.

I do appreciate that y'all are reading - we all do. And that you're talking about the format in general. That's the whole point, after all.

So, from Aaron Forsythe's Twitter account this morning:

"Modern Masters is releasing next year in our "alternate format" timeslot, previously held by Planechase, Commander, Archenemy."

Interesting. Does that exempt the Commanders Arsenal releases they said would be a normal annual occurrence going forward, or is that out the window already?

And since Wizards was basically using that slot for casual releases, how does slotting a sanctioned format they want to actively push in there bode for things going forward?

Great game, Zind. Thanks for having me.

Honestly, I will say I got a little lost in the flavor for a while when real-life got in the way. That was the primary reason I didn't immediately counter-claim iLord when the mistake surfaced. That was a definite blown opportunity, and i got stuck playing off the back foot trying to get out from underneath it. Lessons learned.

Re: the claim thing - I honestly wrote that off the top of my head, with no conscious decision one way or the other to use the "team" language. There was honestly no copying of the PM at all. Considering what I was up against at that point, I needed to have my claim come off as completely casual as possible. I was expecting to be able to ride the "Why would I be dumb enough to copy/paste a claim?" angle, because at the time it seemed so ridiculous that someonewould buy in to the contrary. Lesson learned.

Well played, Kpaca. I will say that I'm having a hard time letting go of what happened on my final night. This will sound like a bit of 'sore loser', but I often have a hard time believing you're a team player. Kinda feel like you threw me under the bus there because it guaranteed you an end-game appearance. If you made that NK, I don't think a thing changes, except the game ends sooner in our favor. As it is, I ended up getting handed to PM on a platter, despite protesting that it would happen.

I'd love for you to talk me down off this ledge.

But in any case, this game was completely incredible. Loved every minute of it.

    Well, that's that.

Looking forward to discussion once this thing is done.

And Wessel...you were absolutely wrong about the 'scumslip'. So there.

The question is not whether or not you are stupid, it's why you used the term 'team'. Your paraphrased win condition is too similar to the scum win condition that I don't think it's a coincidence.

If you don't think I made the mistake out of sheer stupidity, that's fine.

But why, in that case, would I use a word like that if I was scum, knowing full well that people are watching claim wording so closely?

By the way...you keep saying WIFOM here; you do realize that goes both ways, right?

I ask the question point-blank, Wessel:

Based on what I've just said and how close I am to a lynch myself, do you believe that I would make a mistake like that?

    Wessel:

You're complaining about fearmongering here, while painting me as a threat tomorrow. The season likely changes by then, and I'll lose my double vote. where's the threat I pose at that point?

I like the way you point out that my vote takes you to L-1. What does that have to do with Xyre's case on you? Nice misdirection there.

Your 'scumslip' is flat out wrong. I can't hammer this point home enough. I paraphrased the entire rest of my claim. Twice. Why would I copy that part over? I was the first person to point out an issue with claim phrasing in this game. Do you honestly think I would then turn around and make a rookie mistake like that?

'team' was a paraphrase. Why would I quote a role PM?

I just scanned through my role PMs from other games I've been in, and I don't see the word 'team' used in a wincon in ANY of them, for either alignment.

Well, that line made me more comfortable you're scum.

Feel free to explain that one. No, really.

I re-read his posts, and I have a feeling that I was reading into his crappy behavior and hyped attitude backwards. He wouldn't be over-reacting like that and pointing at his results over and over if he wasn't positive it meant something. If he was trying to spin something, I really believe he'd be more cautious, and he's not at all. He's hanging it all out there and screaming at the top of his lungs.

It's absolutely a feeling that I get from reading the tone of his posts. I can't really come up with anything more than that on him. Nothing else he's done so far stuck out at me one way or the other, so this is all i have to go on. I'll gladly re-read if I get the chance.

Wessel and DJ - claim. In that order. Now.

Again, I already did; it was right at the start of the last day, as soon as I got a response from Zindabad regarding the deal with the iLord flavor mistake.

    Once more:

I am Kae Kae Zhun, Regent of Seasons, Elemental of the Solstice. I win when my team successfully destroys all scum.

I have a single passive ability. It does not move the clock:

-During Spring and Autumn, I have two votes. I can split the votes as I see fit between players or put them on one person. I cannot enact a situation where two players reach lynches at the same time.

    Wessel-

You're suggesting that I'm a lynch candidate to prove PM's claim that he roleblocked me, when it doesn't prove that I actually tried to take an action at all? And you don't even have him as confirmed town, so you're willing to give uo a double voter in the late game to get an idea if he's scum or not?

How does that make any sense? Do you actually have me as scum for any other reason?

Jesus, people...I'm posting at 8am, and there are 4 'guests' viewing. Is anyone willing to look at the fact that this is a phenominal smokescreen for scum to hide behind?

    This is so frustrating.

The best part is that after I worked out my anger and cleared my head, I looked at things as they played out so far, and I don't even think PM is scum at all. Misguided and pushing a lynch with nothing but a hunch, but not scum.

When I speak to PM acting like he is, it's because up until now he was very cool, rational, and well-spoken. Today he's transitioned into hyperactive, inflammatory posts and manic taunting. I get that he thinks he has something, and I can see the writing on the wall, but it doesn't mean channeling an 8-year old is something I'll let slide.

I'm totally ready to answer him if he presents a case. I won't continue to verbally spar with him if there's nothing further to discuss.

Thank you for clarifying the kills thing. I guess I mis-understood.

As for Brin, I had him or AE as provable via vig yesterday. At the time, I thought AE was likely lurking scum, but that's changing today. AE continues to be active here (even if he's stubbornly only tangling with Kpaca), and while I recognize that Brin may have gotten 'lucky' on his cop, it's a little too late in the game to give that a pass, and combined with his lack of content lately, I'm willing to vote to push the case.

    Vote DJ Catchem.

You'd prefer I keep trying to argue with him, while he's busy ignoring what I say and acting like a spoiled child here?

This accomplishes nothing except raising the static level. And considering that every time I log in here, there are 3-6 "guests" viewing the thread, I'm positive that scum is benefitting from that static.

DJ Catchem - PM's reveal is compelling, but certainly not damning. You can't rule out PM as pulling a scum gambit here, nor can you rule out a successful doc protect as a reason for no kill. This especially is true when you consider the 2 deaths the other night were both by the SK, and PM did not roleblock DJC that night.

I appreciate the critical thinking. However, can you explain the bolded? I may be missing something there.

One of the only real confirmed townies is your lucky target for the night? You're trying to coast here. Waiting on your reply to my last post.

@AE: Kpaca is going to be his typical useless fluff-posting self here. I'm convinced that the direction I was headed in yesterday was right, but I'm not convincd that you were the correct vig anymore, considering Brin's 'safe save' and content as of late.

Did you get a result of any kind last night?

Yeah...it was really clear. Sorry I missed those three words.

I see no one has come forward with a concrete alternate explanation for everyone waking up this morning. I'm shocked.

Why should anyone? You've clearly figured it out, right? Or are you finally understanding the difference between theory and proof?

    Quote from Pale Mage
Also, I'm pressed for time. If we're going to do a mass claim, today is the best time to do it if we care about having perfect information for the remainder of the game. Regardless, I'm claiming in full at this time:

I be Radamel, Herald of Frost, Elemental of Cold! (*Theme music*)

I'm an owl. I like to picture myself as the owl from the old Tootsie Pop commercials, but feel free to use your own imagination.

I have two abilities. Both are WINTER and active and night.

Sudden Chill (+3 +5 +7) is the roleblock.

Winter's Might (+0): Freezes the Aeon Clock until the next Night (or until I croak if that happens first), so it can't move forward or backwards. This ability is a one-shot.

Last Night it was Winter, I targeted DJ Caughtscum. Let's lynch him. The end.

Look at you driving things so hard. (The fifth grade called, btw, and it wants its' namecalling skills back.)

    Here's what I see:

-You claimed a roleblock. No one died. You're theorizing that A equals B and I was clearly the one who was attempting to off someone.

-You have zero proof other than screaming "Occam's Razor!" until you're blue in the face.

-You haven't made a case. I've been in this game since it started, and you've ruled out 99% of the rest of it to prove your current point. If anything, you went off on me for not trying to nail iLord for for claiming a different flavor role than the one I have, and not saying anything until, you know, THE MOD ADMITTED AN ERROR AND I QUESTIONED HIM IMMEDIATELY IN RESPONSE.

-You're acting like an overcaffinated jerk all of a sudden to drive it home for some reason.

I literally don't have another thing to say to you, so I'm done responding to you. Keep screaming.
