Not with what he was showing. You can go off turn 2, but it requires too much to think it's something to look forward to doing. Turn 3 can still be tough.

I mostly use the GP Miami playmat, I have the moxen playmat laying around somewhere. Not the super rare one, but the one with the 5 moxes on it.

I wish all my ascensions entered play with 2 counters already on them. Your 3rd and 4th Manomorphose don't get copied, they just add a counter to the ascension. After your 4th MM, you will have 2 counters and 2 mana on the ascension at which point you use both mana on sleight of hand assuming you added 2 U.

I want to name Demon, and only play the new Ob Nixilis. So I can then say that this card is Ob's Urd.

    Vengevine
    Phyrexian Dreadnought
    Thing From the Deep

In no particular order. Vengevine was such a fun card to play and I just loved the overall idea of it existing. Dreadnaught has always been my fav card because when I was young, I remember visiting my Uncle in NY and I went into a gas station. I was maybe 9 or something. One of the guys working there was sorting through a bunch of cards and I was like oh cool, I have magic cards too. I didn't play at the time, I just collected mostly lol. I said something like "Oh cool, yeah I have this sweet card that has like 8 power, it's so cool." I was referencing Force of Nature. He was like oh yeah? He fanned through his cards and pulled out the Dreadnought and I was like "Woooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh" and ever since then I had to have that card. As far as Thing from the deep... Yeah, the cards is awful, but it was the strongest card that I knew about when I was collecting. (pre dreadnought knowledge.) The only person I knew that had one wouldn't trade it, but I always asked to see it whenever we hung out. Oh man, the good ol'days lol.

That's not true, he chooses the sacrifice option and nothing happens.

"If a creature with champion leaves play before its comes-into-play ability resolves, its leaves-play ability will do nothing. Then its comes-into-play ability will resolve. Its controller may remove a permanent of the appropriate quality he or she controls from the game. If the player does, that card won't come back. If the player doesn't, nothing happens (because the creature with champion isn't around to be sacrificed.)"

hmm, i believe if you doubled up on fallout, mistbind clique would have died and he wouldn't have had to exile something. he can also choose not to champion something if he wanted to keep his BB.

It was a game from 2005 or 2006. I don't remember the exact details, but described them to the best of my recollection. All I know is all of the judges agreed and he ended the turn with no permanents on the board other than a Mutavault and some Islands. It's possible that I killed everything BUT the Clique and he had no choice in what he Championed/sacrificed. It's possible that I described it exactly right in my initial post and I and all of the judges screwed up, but it seems more likely that I just mixed up the details. I do remember something about the timing of how I cast the Fallouts, but it's a foggy memory. I think the point remains that he was a sloppy, sketchy player that tried to work one over on me multiple times. I mean, I had to call the judge three times on him AFTER I missed that he Cliqued without champion-ing in game one.

*EDIT* I think... I think he wanted to exile his Bitterblossom, but, after I doubled-up on Volcanic Fallout, he wanted it to come back into play. The judges told him he could still Champion the Bitterblossom, but it would be permanently exiled. Then he tried to bring up the Mutavault even though he was tapped out. That sounds about right. So, he had no other non-land permanents save a Bitterblossom? Crap, I don't remember now. Again, it was, like, eight years ago.

Actually, you described it correctly, with the Champion ability on the stack, you double fallout, killing everything on the battlefield, including mistbind clique, this leaves the champion ability on the stack, which he HAS to exile something, it's part of the ability, if Bitterblossom was the only Faerie permanent on the battlefield, he'd have to exile it, permanently.

He doesn't HAVE to exile something. Championing says that you either exile something OR sac it. So, the guy cliques, with the champion trigger on the stack, double fallout happens. Things die, life totals change, then the leaves play trigger resolves first, followed by the champion trigger. The champion trigger says exile something or sac me. You can do either if you want, the obvious one is not to exile unless you really don't want you BB around, which sometimes can happen.

A little bit of a bump. I played this deck today at a small tourney. I have played with the deck some, not in a tourney though. I feel like I'm missing something with the deck though. I don't know how to sideboard against decks. Is there a write up on this deck somewhere? My list is pretty basic. I'm not playing IGG or anything, just rituals, duress/cabal therapy, cantrips and what not. Thanks for any advice!

What is wear and tear potentially 2-1ing that 2 damage isn't better than? I can think of dsphere and pithing needle, which is pretty decent. Maybe rakdos keyrune and chain to rocks or something? OOOOH! It can hit the weapons and another thing, gotcha. Makes sense then :).

  • posted a message on Ben Stark "What does Thundermaw do?" How would you respond?
So I watched the video because I was bored. The reason why he could have asked is because he wasn't sure if thundermaw tapped only the creatures that were dealt damage or if they get tapped regardless. It seems like he wasn't 100% on the wording of it and wanted clarification. Baneslayer does have pro dragons, so if it was worded in a different way, it wouldn't get tapped by T Dawg Hello Kitty.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. Still could be poker face.

Since morbid is triggered from something dying, and for something to die, it has to go from the battlefield to the graveyard. Nothing can go to the GY with RIP out, so morbid will not be in effect.

When it comes to hobbies like this, people always remember the bad but when it comes the good or indifferent, it's not even taken into consideration. Bad things are publicized a lot more often than the good things, so it's very easy to become jaded about these things.

There's a guy at a sop I go to once in a blue moon. Everyone call hims "mad guy", because he gets upset over everything all the time. If something doesn't go his way, he gets all pissy about it. It's actually hilarious. I remember one time I had finished my match and there was a discrepancy with his match. Apparently, he wanted to name Oblivion Ring with Pithing Needle to stop it from working. His opponent said that doesn't work as intended and he got irate saying "YES IT DOES, EVEN ERWIN SAID IT WORKED IN ONE OF HIS VIDEO". At which point everyone was like "It doesn't work dude..." We explained to him the difference between activated and triggered abilities and he just wouldn't have it. "SO YOU'RE SAYING AN L3 JUDGE RULED THIS WRONG?" in about as sarcastic as you could get tone. He brought up the video where Evin Erwin was talking about when Reid Duke was playing drownyard bant, and he made a play the E.E. talked about. I watched the video, and what actually happened was R.D.'s opp had a Garruk, Primal Hunter under R.D.s Detention Sphere. R.D.s opp went to Oring the Dsphere and R.D. responded by Alchemist's Refuge Needle naming Garruk, so the guy couldn't activate. E.E. specifically even said "Pithing Needle naming Garruk, Primal Hunter."

Anyways, the mad dude ended up getting all frustrated and irate and was just like "WHATEVER". I tried to the best of my ability to get him to understand the interactions and what was going on, but he willingly wanted to stay ignorant. He's kind of a punch line to jokes now.
