Alpha had tons of misprints that were corrected in beta. Alpha only had two versions of each basic land and was missing Volcanic Island and Circle of Protection: Black as well. Besides that they are identical. I'd choose beta for tourney play because after a while you can tell the difference through the plastic with opaque sleeves. Alpha for the binder for prestige purposes though. The print run of beta was almost triple what alpha was.
