While it's likely that Cackler is still the first choice for red 1 drops, they certainly have more than 4 slots for them, and this is almost certainly better than Denizen and Legion Loyalist. The Satyr should definitely see some play.

People are ultimately responsible for their actions, and participating in a activity that requires knowledge without learning said information yourself is irresponsible (obviously in the context of trading cards).

I'd have to agree with that. If you decide to run some trades, but don't feel like figuring out the values of your cards and the cards you want, and then complain that your partner doesn't tell what they are worth, that kind of seems akin to entering a boxing match and getting upset at your opponent for socking you one in the chops.

I meant that there has been little talk about actually passing legislation to enforce borders. I know that more have been being deported, but there has been little legislature(outside of Arizona, which I believe Obama opposed, but I'm not sure) to stop it.

In fairness, even Governor McDonnell of Virginia criticized the Arizona legislation, and he's about as right wing as you can get without having massive portraits of himself in the governor's mansion. While illegal immigration is certainly an issue, the draconian legislation Arizona passed is treating the symptom and not the cause. The cause being that they are being given jobs by corporations. If we just made corporations unable to hire undocumented workers, there might be a bit less incentive to come here illegally.

And also, the idea of having to carry documentation everywhere has some unsettling undertones if you were to check out a bit of the history of the Soviet Union.

I agree that he's pretty much stopped using sound-bites, but he did that quite a lot during the campaign(as did Sarah Palin). Now he just sticks to rhetoric instead of actually outlining his plans.

Another thing I don't like are the people saying that people who disagree with him are just racist. That's not his fault, though. My question is... how does that make me racist? He's American, I'm American. We're both of the human race.

I was never making the point that you or anyone else in particular was racist. I was only answering the original question in that comment, asking why people have turned against him. My logical assumption is that some people that criticize Obama are racially motivated, not that if you criticize him, you are racist, that notion would be preposterous. He's certainly done things that both sides of the political aisle should criticize him for justifiably, regardless of his racial background. I was merely saying that people weren't holding massive rallies and chanting things like "terrorist" or "kill him" when Clinton was president, nor the claims that he's a secret muslim or terrorist(which apparently many people seem to think are one in the same ;)) and I find it hard for anyone to say that Obama has shown himself to be significantly more left wing than Clinton was.

    3) He talks in sound-bites and bland rhetoric. Instead of asserting HOW things will get done, he says that the WILL get done.

Personally I'd have to say the larger problem he has is that the exact opposite of this is true. The problem is that he can't get his message across in simple sound-bites and bland rhetoric, at least not anymore. During the campaign, that criticism certainly was founded, although its not an entirely fair criticism, because I would argue that people actually do want to be talked down to, even if they are reluctant to admit it, but now he is having significant trouble explaining his message in simple, easy for people to understand ways. The democrats have actually gotten significant things done, whether you agree with them or not. But he and his party have done a terrible job selling those things, such that democrats are running ads saying they didn't vote for the healthcare bill and generally throwing the administration under the bus. For an example to elucidate my point, prior to the health care debate, 60% of Americans supported health care reform, but because the Republicans were significantly more effective at getting their message across, opinions greatly turned against reform, including from people that probably benefited from the changes brought about by it.

Also running against him is the fact that he kind of inherited a bit of a sh*tstorm with two separate wars and a pretty huge recession, not to mention the fact that it's hard to argue that race plays no factor when we have a fairly checkered history with race here in this country, including the fact that we fought a war that literally split our country in half over it, didn't pass a comprehensive civil rights bill until the 60s, and have generally been behind most other developed countries on race relations for most of our history. In a country where it took until 1995 for Mississippi to ratify the thirteenth amendment it's hard to argue that it plays absolutely no factor in the backlash he has received.

It also doesn't help that our highest rated news channel tells us that he's taken what was a perfectly good country and completely ruined it in less than 3 years.

I love the design of the new Elspeth, and the way her -2 meshes with her ultimate. She puts out 3 chump blockers to protect herself, and then she can pump herself towards disking the board, while using the chump blockers to ensure that she can get her ultimate, and forcing the opponent to over-commit to the board to get past the chumps, which in turn makes the Disk effect even more effective. The only concern with her I can see is that she doesn't mesh well with Jace TMS in the way that something like Gideon or old Elspeth does, as her ultimate will also get rid of him. This might restrict her to more aggro based decks, rather than giving her a spot over Gideon as the second PW of choice in UW control. Speaking of Gideon, I've gotta think the spoilers of Venser and Elspeth 2.0 helps his value in the new standard, as he still seems to be the best 5 drop planeswalker in UW control(which seemed to be in doubt since there were two blue and/or white PWs coming out today) vs. Venser(who seems more suited to Reveillark shenanigans this extended PTQ season)/Elspeth.

Unless you're one of the people that got jobbed out of your pre-ordered boxes I can't see any logic in people complaining about this. Wizards basically just gave added value to people for playing Magic with no catch, and people find this to be the deathknell of a game that has lasted sixteen years(and the last two sets have been selling like crazy, even before the priceless treasure stuff). It's not going to lower the prices of any of the old cards, considering the number of different cards inserted and the rarity of the cards themselves it will not be flooding the market. From the sounds of reports it may be adding 20-30 of each card to the market which really shouldn't effect the value of them very much if at all.
Oh, and considering these are probably only in the original print run of the set, I can't understand the argument that they are doing this as a cash grab. They didn't even promote this, and all the pre-orders were sold before anyone opened the priceless treasures anyway, because the set has alot of powerful cards and enemy fetchlands that people have been requesting for ages, so how is this a cash grab exactly? Just seems like what other companies have done in the past with excess inventory of sports cards.

Maelstrom Nexus + Dream Halls. Pair with Conflux and you can pretty much play anything in your deck, plus the extra Nexuses can help you play anything else.

That seems kind of bad actually, it's only the first spell played in a turn that gets cascade. I mean if you're resolving a Dream Halls, it means you're playing Vintage, and thus should probably be able to win immediately, which that doesn't let you do. Grozoth searching for 4 Searing Wind just seems much easier for a Dream Halls kill.

is the flavourtext of the grizzled leotau real? I like it ^^ And imagin the leotau with doran, the siege tower! 2 mana 6/6? Okay XD

It most certainly is. Well almost. It's just missing the author.

As for the spoiled cards, the snake is pretty nuts, while susceptible to bounce and 1 mana more expensive, it could definitely see play alongside Goyf in legacy in tempo thresh builds. Considering the ponder+top effect, on top of the fact that Brainstorms are permanent giant growths it gets big really quick.

Yes. You may be right. This set is getting out of hand. I don't know when it should reach the point where I should stop being happy and start getting scared. I mean some of the cards are on par with the better cards in Urza's block and even the crappiest crap common is an easy easy 23rd card in limited. If they don't make Yawgmoth's Will 2.0 here I'll be surprised.

I'm going to have to assume you didn't play when Urza's block was in all it's pre-banned glory if you think this is close to that level. The cards in this set have looked powerful, but I mean, come on. Academy, Will, Bargain, Memory Jar, Monolith, Frantic Search, and on and on. I highly doubt we'll ever see a set of Urza's block insanity.

I was thinking the same thing when I read that card. Definitely the nuts in Kaleidoscope.

I love the thought of Pondering into Ancestral Recalls or Balances in Extended if there's a way to efficiently get the thing into play. And yes, it is the perfect Johnny card, no doubt.

It's probably not playable in constructed, but it's such a Windmill Slam in draft. It fits into most color decks with the reasonably colored mana cost and its removal, plus a burn spell(Or a 2 for 1 when they block). Just sick. Similar in effect to grab the reins, but cheaper. And grab the Reins was sick in limited in its own right.

Take that Cylian Sunsinger! I knew you sucked.

In the past, the third set in the block was usually the worst set in the block. Alara Reborn looks to be making the Shards of Alara set break that pattern quite effectively. Grin
Yeah, this is the eighth multicolor set in the past four years, but at least the cards are interesting and powerful, so I'm looking forward to it.

Jasura seems playable in Dark Bant/Ziggurat Aggro as a 3 power flier for three that has late game value seems pretty strong. Not sure if its good enough to make the cut, but it definitely has potential.

On the other hand, the Defiler is kind of meh in a format filled with tons of tokens where his Abyss ability will rarely hit something good before he gets killed.
