I started building this deck the other day, and got stuck so I figured I'd post it here for some help. It's a budget deck, mostly commons but I think it'll get the job done. Any input or constructive criticism is appreciated.
Basically this is a sterotypical burn deck with a little blue splashed in for defense and card advantage, It's my first attempt at making anything like it, so if it's terrible, that's the reason why. once again, suggestions/comments. thanks.
Sapphire Medallion can definitely help out as it allows you to turn 3 Illusions, turn 4 pay CU and Donate, especially if you're willing to go mono-blue.
Otherwise Echoing Truth > Hoodwink. It's more useful since it can hit tokens or multiple permanents if you need it to.
I'm a bit worried for your playgroup, 4 Demonic Consultation, 3 Demonic Tutor, AND 3 Necropotence?! I'd check to see if that's cool with them before you finish making this. I can say that it wouldn't be for my playgroup (we tend to follow Vintage or Legacy rules).
I will take your advice with echoing truth, and replaced Hoodwink with it, otherwise I'm going to keep a U/B build.
I play casual for the most part, and my playgroup continuously tries to 1-up each other. They'll be cool with it, they might complain...a lot, but they won't stop me from playing this. (There's a guy who play's a channel+Banefire combo all the time, its not funny.
Gush with only 3 Island is a really bad idea. Paying 5 for two cards is just to inefficent for the deck, even on a budget. Mana Vault as I see it, only helps you to cast IoG and that would not make my cut.
Now to suggsestions: Gush slots could be filled with another two Brainstorms, a DT and a Hoodwink or a Contagion (whatever you need more).
I would replace Vaults with a counterspell - whatever fits your meta. Remand, Delay, Mana Leak, Froce Spike (no Daze!) are some that come to mind.
Actually now that I look it over, gush was a HORRIBLE pick. I'm going to replace it with Disrupt
And I think I will cut the vaults.
Formatted the original decklist to include the new picks, anymore ideas?
Not too long ago I posted a kind of Trix deck (before I learned how often it was used, and that the actual version of it can run upwards to 400 dollars to build. I want to be able to play this deck, so I devised a poor man's version, that will only see play in casual. Please provide feedback, and understand that I am not willing to spend more than 10 bucks on any single card. (no force of wills or Underground seas, I just don't have the funds :[)
As you can all see, what I did was take the basic Trix deck, and took out the really really expensive cards, and replaced them with cheaper variants. Unfortunately, the changes I've made may have compromised the functionality of said deck, but here's hoping it didn't. Feedback and suggestions are requested, I want to make sure this'll work before I go ahead and spend the money.
Yes, this is classic, Look up Trix for a good reference. It is a Vintage version of this deck.
I would first work on the mana base. The lands you are using are not optimal. I would rather just use a basics and Dark ritual for sum fuel. Artifacts and Tolarian Academy If you end up putting a bit into this.
Bounce (Echoing Truth, Chain of Vapor) is defensive and allows you to get the Illusions back right away to your hand and for group you'll get to play the same one out again.
And for some bonus fun you can add Necropotence to draw your pieces with, then donate it with a Mindslaver activation on the way.
Later,

Bounce is a great idea, for some reason I was buiilding around bringing cards back from the dead. Here's the new decklist:
Basically this deck is based around a well known combo chain. the deck utilizes Illusions of Grandeur+Donate to generally cause chaos, while the rest of the deck is used to defend myself and aquire the needed cards. The only problem is that I can't really come up with a deck list that seems stable enough, so I figured I'd turn to you guys for help :D. Here's what I have so far
Mischievous Quanar is included to copy diabolic tutor on cast to let me search for the entire chain whenever necessary. Counterspell, and Daring Apprentice are around to make sure no one breaks the combo chain, The wall of air is... well a wall of air.
most of the other cards are included to help me search for cards, and to make more copies of Illusions of Grandeur
I for one am pretty happy with the new prerelease structure. As a lifelong citizen of Nowhere, New York, it's nice to see our little comic shop get a breath of life.
Ha, I think I was the one that posted that decklist....so of course I would recommend that you leave everything the same:p
Honestly, I preferred Lash Out to Lightning Helix because you don't care too much about lifegain (Feudkiller's Verdict), and with a higher curve, you often win the clash enough to make it worthwhile...but the Helix is a very solid card. And Thundercloud Shaman acts as a Pyroclasm here.
And really, neither of those 3 cards you mentioned should go in here...Furystoke Giant is more for token decks that can really take advantage of the CIP ability...Lovisa seems just subpar, as Sunrise Sovereign gives the same bonus with a more relevant ability (trample)...and I actually had to click on the link for Impelled Giant to see what that does, but in the same vein as Furystoke, that wants a deck with a decent number of creatures out to give it the bonus.
I think if anything, you could cut a Goliath, a Behemoth, and a Sovereign for 3 Pyroclasm/Lightning Helix if you're worried about the early game
It was you! how goes it my fellow giant user?
I think i may just swap Lash out for lightning helix, and leave it at that.
I'd recommend running a set of Pyroclasm to compliment your burn to survive early aggro rushes. I'd probably cut the Hamletback Goliaths and 1 Thundercloud Shaman to open up 4 slots for them.
Whoa. Ive never even heard of lightning helix. I want a playset now xD. Pyroclasm sounds like a good idea, but im not entirely sure about cutting the Goliaths.
I don't understand this part of your question. Your deck should always be shuffled face-down and remain face-down throughout the game unless a card tells you to do otherwise. The backs of your cards, regardless of whether they are white- or black-bordered, are the same so I don't see how using white-bordered lands helps you "keep control of when a land is coming up."
I worded it wrong, what i meant is so i can find them faster when i'm searching my library.
alright I'll make some modifications and make it not illegal

I agree, That is Epic *insert Angelic song now*
I don't think I'd ever use progentius, I'd just put him on my wall and stare at the sheer awesomeness.

I hate brain freeze with a passion. Brain freeze stormed with Sanity Grinding, and traumatize *shudder*
