Hey all, I haven’t been the most active on here lately, but I still wanted to share an event I’m hosting next Saturday 8/24 in Worcester, MA. It’s a memorial Magic tournament for a friend who passed a few years ago. I think a few of you are in the area, so it’s be awesome if you could make it. Even if you can’t, feel free to share it around. Thanks! Details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/364590500827485/?ti=icl
I’m already very excited by this set. I support +1/+1 counters very heavily across my cube, so there’s lots of good stuff here. I like Jiang and his dog, as well as Flux Channeler for counter shenanigans, and also Cruel Celebrant, Paradise Druid, Eternal Taskmaster, and maybe Kiora for just general good stuff.
According to MaRo’s blog, the 20 uncommon planeswalkers will come from three cycles: two five-card monocolor cycles, and a ten-card hybrid cycle. Ten hybrids had me excited that we’ll get at least a couple cubeable ones.
I'm actually very interested in both Song of Freyalise and Tatyova. Song seems like it will go very nicely along with the +1/+1 counters and go wide themes I have in green, and Tatyova seems like an interesting spin on a late-game value-generating card for Simic ramp decks.
Not a fan, you'll almost always end up on the losing end of that exchange unless you've got serious lifegain to go along with it. Having said that, slapping a Gift of Orzhova (if anyone still plays that card) on this guy is a real fast clock.
This is a cool concept for a list, and is making me consider doing something similar with my Peasant cube. The one card that stands out as a little out of line power-level wise is Frost Titan. Comparing it to most other creatures in the cube, Frost Titan is pretty clearly more powerful. Otherwise, I really like what you have here.
They're good in tempo decks, letting you get ahead, apply pressure, use most of your resources every turn, and (hopefully) counter your opponent's stabilizing play. I find that it's best on turns 4-6, when your opponent is most likely to be tapping out for a value creature or something like that.
1. Has it be printed at common/uncommon at any point in the games history? This counts masters sets, MTGO only sets, and early sets with no clear vision as to what qualified as uncommon.
2. Is it a card I like and think my group will be happy to play? If a card passes step one, it then has to be evaluated based our preferences, the types of decks the cube supports, and the types of decks just enjoy playing.
Other than that, there are no other rules for my peasant cube inclusions.
I have a thread here too, but I don't maintain it any more. All the interesting discussion on my cube happens in the comments sections of card changes and draft decks on Cubetutor.
