Bob Snapcaster and Goyf in the same standard... sounds like BUG would be Tier 1.

Good reason to also reprint Spell Snare...

I'd classify it as 'Midrange-Control'. And either way, it's a far cry from Delver or Tempo or Aggro-Control. Not with the incremental CA engines and slower game-plan. It's not on the 'Tempo' side of the circle by any means. It's more aptly classified as Control. Imo, anyways. And i think a lot of the SCD that could happen in this Sub-Forum is much more conducive than the Tempo sub-forum.

For example; throwing Gifts-Rites in this deck isn't necessarily GOOD, but it could possibly warrant discussion, and it's something to be discussed in the subforum. But, a Gifts-Rites thread in the Tempo Subforum seems like a horrible idea.

And come on man, Baneslayer Angel? How does that not scream "This is NOT Tempo" to you? =P

What baneslayer angel? Where the hell are you getting your lists from? And gifts-rites is already in the sideboard of most UWR delver decks...in the tempo subforum...so i dont really see the issue.

The deck plays out like a U/W faerie deck. Firmly a tempo deck.

This really isnt a control deck. It is firmly in the Tempo/Midrange category. While this deck has a slightly longer game than the delver decks in the format it doesnt really aim for the long game and doesnt really have a long game plan (other than playing dudes and bashing). This deck is very different to the squadron hawk strategy. this is basically just a UW faeries deck without most of the faeries.

Categorising control by what counterspells it plays is a pretty weak argument, and this deck plays all tempo counterspells anyway so there was no reason to move this thread to the control forum.

The Format is wide open. Quite sick of the 'best deck' mentality at the moment. Also, anyone who thinks the current Solar Flare deck is a control deck is just wrong. It's actually a midrange deck in disguise...

But yes, Liliana is overhyped, as are many other cards by SCG. People who that the articles in the weeks after release aren't entirely meant to feed sales are entirely mistaken.

Clearly, Torpor Orb would be sided in so Emrakul wouldn't gain the Time Walk effect as long as I manage to get it into play in time, I should have stated but that would be the plan.

Umm you do realise that Emrakul triggers on cast right? Torpor Orb doesn't stop the Time Walk...

If you're playing Clique and Spellstutter Sprite, have you considered Familiar's Ruse over Deprive? It bounces a creature instead of a land (meaning that it's ETB effect can be reused). Thoughts?

    Quote from Adam W
I scrubbed out at the last tournament I played, but I did have an epic moment that almost made it worth it - playing the mirror, opponent SBs in Memoricide. It's turn 4 of Game 3.

    Opponent: Memoricide, naming Primeval Titan.
Me: Ricochet Trap, Memoricide now targeting you.

You do realise this doesn't exile his titans right? The card is only chosen on resolution, and the spells controller can choose not to exile any cards, because Memoricide specifies "any number" of copies, which includes 0.

Why are you surprised? Valakut is one of Mono Black's strongest matchups...They can never beat Obliterator game 1 and find it tough to beat games 2 and 3 (they have to have dismember). I remember this one time I was playing valakut and had to race the mono black player with memoricide before he could cast the obliterator. Never playing without dismember in my 75 again...

Wow, this would be just borderline playable at W, and it cost 1WW, lol. At least it isn't only red getting the ****ty new cards.

Yeah sure...Grim Lavamancer not good enough for you????

Anyway, there has to be limited fodder, so why are people complaining about it? Some people enjoy limited. This card is pretty boss in limited as well...kinda like inspired charge, only worse.

What I do like about this card is the Three Musketeers reference... XD

I agree that the advance of technology and the spread of enlightenment would be the correct place for U to go in a Gothic Horror setting, I think that blue has been doing just that a little too much in recent blocks...I mean, think of the Great Synthesis, then think of Esper. You can go as far back as you want, and you will get all points on the spectrum from the Early Modern to the triumphant Modern. Wizards would really have to do something a bit more creative than that....

  • posted a message on [NPH] Karn Planeswalker. Why, Wizards?
    Quote from Skibo
There have been several characters in magic capable of planeswalking without being planeswalkers. (Night's reach for instance)

And Karona was more powerful than planeswalkers, and could planeswalk. Yet she wasn't considered a planeswalker.

You need an active spark to be a planeswalker. This is firmly esablished time and again. Being power, and being able to planeswalk doesn't change this.

We don't actually know as much about the parameters of a neo-walker than we did about the original walkers - we don't therefore know the parameters of what is necessary to be printed as a "planeswalker" card.

    Quote from Skibo
Not all theories are equally valid. Could Yawgmoth's ghost ressurect Slobad so that Slobad could wish on the Mirari restoring Karn's spark and everyone in the multiverse will live happily ever after? Yes... but that's not a valid theory since it's contradicted by many known facts.

Most of us here have a passion for the story, and have read the books. We understand the rules that lie beneath. If one of us says a theory is invalid, there's probaly a good reason for it.

You clearly didn't read my post. I said that mildly plausible theories (such as the dual personality Karn) cannot be 'dismissed' on one person's say-so. Your final comments indicate to me that you're less interested in thinking through the lore ramifications than you are in feeding your ego.

While you may have read the books, and be interested in storytelling, do not suggest for an instant that somebody else hasn't, or isn't until you know that for a fact.

Also, the fact that you know the lore does not indicate that you understand anything about storytelling. Maybe you should come back to this thread when you can appreciate these things.

If Karn was an extremely powerful walker before the mending (almost as powerful as our elder dragon friend), then if he lost his spark but still has the planeswalking engine, then he could still be as powerful/more powerful than a neo-walker.

However, I think it's impossible to make a definitive comment at this point in time, and anyone who thinks they can is deluded, including those who think they can 'disprove' somebody else's theories. Anything that is mildly plausible as valid at this point in time.

Generally against the mirror you would probably play either viridian corrupter or natures claim...but in this case he doesnt run monument, so those seem like dead cards.

Fog seems ok...but its hard to tell without seeing your list as well. Have you played against said person before? If you have, how did the match go?

If you play jace, then liquidmetal coat him, then use tezzeret to make him a 5/5 you'd have the following.

    Jace, the Mind Sculptor 2UU
    Artifact Planeswalker Creature - Jace
    His usual abilities
Loyalty = whatever his loyalty currently is
    5/5 power/toughness

at least that's my thinking. not 100% sure based on my understanding of the rules that tezzeret's second ability would remove any types or supertypes.

Sorry but this is incorrect. Read above.

Viperesque, does this mean that 0 loyalty wouldnt kill the PW?
