I picked up this deck online, and it's been insane for me. It does the marvel thing, it plays creatures, but the main wincon is Mechanized Production on Puzzleknots. The upshot is you control the board a little but you're gaining so much life, they can't keep you down. Oh and you're also gaining so much energy, it's every turn a marvel and you still have energy to waste.
I literally haven't lost a match since I picked up this list.
I can't stress enough not only the success I've been having, but the ultimate fun this deck is. I changed a few things based on availability and funability:
3 Gonti's Machinations
4 harnessed lightning
4 live fast
3 dynavolt tower
3 Unlicensed Disintegration
maybe i'm going too deep on activating machinations and having ways to spend energy, it's just tower answers combo, and plenty of removal is good in this format. reaver drone activates machinations every turn if you can't, and spire does as well.
I think that hulk is the #1 last card that should be in this deck, reason being is because your opp always picks the less harmful mode based on the game state. Not to mention, chances are the mode they pick, you needed them to pick the other to win, with that being said, I can understand the pure fun factor of the card but realistically there are better cards that fit this decks game plan and curve. maxing out on cards like hungry flames and collective defiance where you get to burn a creature and the player at the same time, thus gaining tempo to actually burn them out on time and not die. I think flame lash has a serious home in this deck, 4 damage is huge here.
I post my list, because I am having a REALLY hard time versus the REALLY STUPID Red Green double strike deck. I find this match up to be COMPLETELY INFURIATING, and was curious if anyone had some advice on what I aught to be doing?
I generally board in the negate and unsubstantiate in favor of the upper half of my curve ie scrounger, 1 cloak, the reservoir, 1 skyship, and 1 contortion and 1 land
the goal with this board plan is to keep my curve low, don't get blown out by pump spells and land just 1 colo, because normally that ends the game. Advice?
Hey folks I just wanted to add my two cents as I have been playing something SHOCKINGLY similar and to honestly great success!
The deck is beyond a blast to play, and I love Orrery as it + Key to the city give you UNREAL bump and grind for basically a mono red deck deck.
Not that I think it's too too relevant, but I don't know how to do the card linking etc, but here it is!
3 Insolent Neonate
4 Inventor's Apprentice
4 Bomat Courier
4 KEY TO THE CITY (Easily the most fun and impacting card in the deck)
4 Lupine Prototype
4 Scrapheap Scrounger
3 Stromkirk Occultist
4 Fiery Temper
3 Reckless Bushwacker
3 Ghirapur Orrery
Sideboard
3 Incediary Flow
2 Nahiri's Wrath (great vs other aggro to activate lupine and wipe their board, sometimes on turn three ;D)
2 Avacyn's Judgment
4 Unlicensed Disintegration
4 Eternal Scourge (another great creature versus removal heavy decks + super combo with scrapheap)
This. So much this. revoker is good, but idk about just 1. I think this is a really good start to a deck, and should be refined to the max. It can definitely go somewhere.
When it comes to smallpox as a card itself, I think it's a fine attack at the metagame, but It's a little harder to find it a home that can also attack the metagame appropriately. Where my idea of the metagame is tier 1 being valakut, assorted splinter twin decks, and any mono red deck almost.
Making smallpox one sided is really what you want to do with the card. I don't feel like blue can accomplish this. Green has more answers to the metagame, and a few more synergies with smallpox. Not that I am saying you MUST play say viridian emissary with any smallpox deck, but a card like beast within is pretty good with smallpox and good on it's own.
I think for this concept to go somewhere, and I'd like it to, you have to set aside a number of cards for the metagame, then continue building. Things like hand hate, things that stop assorted combo, and ways to deal with red and or titans. I WILL SAY. I think white/black at very least is the right direction. I just feel green can get you there. beast within/ob baloth/emissary/old garruk/etc.
Splinter win version of RUG is probably best, I was thinking about maybe shifting it to look more like a legacy version of rug. In advance, this is just an idea as a list, and, sorry about bad tagging.
So, I just played a ugr d-force deck at the 5k. went 6-3, and I've gotta say, the only way a deck like this wins is by getting destructive force. and because of that fact, it won't go above tier 2. it was fun to play, but no way could i have done better with it. also, even if i could i wouldn't cast force turn 3 or 4.
I REALLY like where this is going.
Not that I really disagree with any card choices here, but I just feel like in the old dredgevine deck we had 2 cards that were happy in the gy, and i want to say despite how hard he is for you to cast him that bloodghast would be a winner your deck. 3-4 copies. Also, 1 giantomancer, 'cause with him in the bin and your ooze, you basically win the game. pretty much straight out. Also maybe steel hellkite.
Let's get this out of the way, since I'm sure it will come up. I'm saying it once and making it clear so don't try and question it.
I do not have the absurd amount of $cash$ to get even one Mindsculptor. The deck can work fine without it. Do not suggest it, do not think it, do not breathe it. Thank you for your time.
The true shenanigans behind my version are simple, abuse the Portal while throwing your opponents creatures and spells out the window. I chose Ornithopter over Memnite simply because if I'm going to buff him with the Overseers, I may as well get flying out of it. The Architect allows me to get more mana for spells and abilities, the Champions will act as my creature based win con, easily getting buffed by the Overseers and going on unblocked.
But you're probably wondering "Why the Forgemaster?" Because I can use the Portals to create anything for fodder. A free Orithopter every turn combined with the ones already there, I can tutor up anything I need.
The SB is just a few things to help. Magnets and Thrones to repeat my Portal Shenanigans. Opal for free mana and Metalcraft, along with Chalice for mana and cheap artiface. Engine for more beats if needed. Oh right, and cancel, which is more counter.
Unfortunately, unless Fabricate comes back, I lack a sure fire way to get the Portal early one without draws or abuse of the Forgemaster. Tis a pity that Fabricate was done for M10, but not M11 where it could really be of use. Cancel for more counter. Engine and Emperion for more beats.
So I read your list, and I think you should probably run Jace 2.0 He gives you card selection which could play a huge part in your deck.
Honestly, it reminds me of those turn 3 Ultimatum scenarios with Lotus Cobra. At least nobody will try to claim that Mox Opal is broken because of that ;o
Jace death rate: 95%
Mox Opal death rate: 5%
Speaking of lotus cobra... I'm thinking turn two titan.

How could it be terrible? Was casting stoneforge on turn two bad? Either they have the removal spell or not. Win/win situation. Explain please.
Also, I wish there was room in this deck for preordain/ponder.
4 lotus Cobra
3 inferno titan
2 trinket mage
2 Consecrated sphinx
2 Oracle of mul daya
2 lightning bolt
4 explore
4 mana leak
1 basilisk collar
2 brittle effigy
3 Dismember
Please do not talk about m12 yet. You must wait until the whole set has been spoiled.
What're you, crazy? Did you not read the part where it blows things up? That seems pretty mythic to me.
Not that I really disagree with any card choices here, but I just feel like in the old dredgevine deck we had 2 cards that were happy in the gy, and i want to say despite how hard he is for you to cast him that bloodghast would be a winner your deck. 3-4 copies. Speaking of lotus cobra... I'm thinking turn two titan.
Hand: Cobra, mox, 2 0cmc artifacts, land, fetch land, explore.
Top of library, fetch land, then titan.
turn 1: land mox etc then cobra.
turn 2: fetch land explore fetch land TITAN
I'm the king of unrealistic and ridiculous plays.
