I was in round 4 of my shop's prerelease, playing against a good friend of mine. He had a Platinum Angel on his side of the board with a few other guys. I had a Demon of Death's Gate and a Vengeful Archon on the board. He was also at less than 0. He plays Overwhelming Stampede... Think his Angel became a 12/12 out of this.
Now, I arranged blocks on Platinum Angel to make sure it died due to combat damage. Would I lose the game, or would it be a draw?
I think I would actually lose, because the Platinum Angel's damage would check at the same time my life would check. Which, would essentially, send us both to the graveyard at the same time; or would it be a draw since the Platinum Angel wouldn't be in play?

I love the concept of an enchantment that blows up creatures. It's rather balanced as well, since it affects both players in a negative way a limited number of times. 8/10

A green enchantment that makes a 0/1 goat token with some effect that gives goats overrun after a certain condition is met.
Sure, Cloudthresher does remove your tokens... Unless you pump them. I did not see a reason to not play this at all.
Harm's Way can basically shock to kill any blockers at any point in which there is damage on the board, so this is great in my opinion... I'd run it main if I could find room.:D
I'm thinking about taking out Qasali Pridemage for Naturalize, just because of the instant-speed thing.
Burrenton Forge-Tender is obviously in because of red match-ups. There's a guy at the shop I play at that plays a casual Fireball/Twincast deck that hides behind walls... So I had to a find a way to stop that.
And Dauntless Escort is just there for any match-up that has mass-removal.
Can anyone find a bullet proof solution to this problem?
Now, first off, you'll probably notice that the sideboard looks a little.. well, to be desired. I did change some of the lineup of the deck right before the tournament started.
Round 1: Mono-White Kithkin
I'll admit, if the deck were in the hands of a more experienced player, I would not have had a chance in this. Game one, he took me to 3, but I ended up winning the game on the back of a flipped Overrun on a Windbrisk.
Game 2, I ended up winning basically unopposed after I hard-casted a Planar Cleansing on turn 6 and followed up with a turn 7 Wilt-Leaf Liege.
Round 2: Some B/G Zombie deck-thing (It was actually pretty cool)
He did keep a 1 land hand, can't really remember why he did, but he tried a Mutavault beatdown and I did manage to get enough power against him to where it didn't matter after awhile.
game 2 was a little closer, but I decided to keep a really bad hand of 3 Noble Hierarch, 2 Path to Exile, an Overrun, and a Wooded Bastion. Topdeck Forest, and basically went nuts. lol
Round 3: Jund
Both games, it was pretty one-sided, he just couldn't get any land or anything started. He would draw either all land, or no land... I felt kinda bad, because it's the guy that always rides up to the shop with me.:-/
Round 4: Some G/B rock thing (had some white)
game 1 was basically the worst game this guy and I had ever played, and it got worse with game 2. The entire match lasted maybe 10min. It was rediculous how fast it went. Apparently, from what I heard, we were done when people were still swinging for 2 with 2 guys. haha
But yeah, all-in-all; I know this is probably a lack-luster version, but I really like how this plays. It's extremely smooth, curves out constantly, and generally gives you whatever you need when you need it.
Does that mean "ramping" to a Cruel Ultimatum is not a good idea? It does help with the mana fix as well. I managed to do a 5th turn Ultimatum because of a Path, and an Obelisk of Grixis. I know the Shard Convergence was not the best idea... But I figured it would be nice to have in case I hit one of the green sources to thin my deck by 1-3 cards. Spell Snip was basically there just for the card draw... I just wanted to thin and thin and thin until I could Cruel Ultimatum or draw a viable card.
I drafted this evening and realized that I just played that draft format like an idiot.
This evening it was Alara Block draft and I ended up 4-0 with an 8-1 over-all. Drafted Grixis taking a Cruel Ultimatum as a first pick and did not have to force Grixis colors at all.
This is a SB'ed version I did do for round 3... I realized that the green splash probably was not the best decision... But I did like it at the time of construction and it did really play a vital role... I actually did 3-1 with Volcanic Fallout and swing through for 4 with a Sojourner in the final round.
I was joking around about maining a Thornling since I first picked it in the Conflux pack... But as you can tell, I skipped on that idea.
But yeah... I feel better now... Alas it wasn't sanctioned... But neither was the one that set me off. I do appreciate the help from you all.
Gloryscale had actually lost me a few games earlier in the draft. Although, I probably did not give it a fair shot since I played against the guy whom drafted the playset of Wall of Denials... I did manage to take one out and trample over for 2 with the Gloryscale at one point, though.
The one I was talking about with the 2 Behemoth's Sledges, I drafted 5 Captured Sunlight and 6 3cc Cascade spells... Still went 1-3. o.o
But I do see what you're saying, and that's kind of the idea I had... But maybe my idea does need some work.
I do appreciate your help on this.
raredrafting will be quite often to one's detriment. Case in point: Sovereign of the Lost Alara is quite bad; his second ability is irrelevant.
Yeah, I actually cracked a foil of the Sovereigns and the Lich Lord of Unx... Took neither and took Terminate. I figured, "If I go up against the Lich Lord... I can just kill it."
I try to avoid rare-drafting unless I'm being sponsored by somebody... Usually then, I still do really well... Apparently not now, though. lol
I'm a huge fan of Naya. We have a draft pool of just Alara block commons and uncommons and I keep drafting almost the same exact Naya deck every time.
I was thinking about going Naya, but I was sitting in between two regulars and they're infamous for rare-drafting... One of them actually picked up 3 of the Sovereign guys. The other guy that was sitting to my left picked up 4 Wall of Denial... It was super-sick...
The Yearlings were actually very late picks on each pack. I kept trying to get Jund Hackblades along with the Borderposts because I do have a thing for swinging for 3 on turn 2 with only 1 land in play... heh...
And I'll be honest... I haven't exactly been involved as much in limited as I was before... So I'm thinking it may just be I'm out of practice possibly. My mana bases used to be really well-made; but apparently not anymore.
What would be the best ratio for Borderpost to Land? I usually go 2 mana-producer for 1 land.
I once saw a guy stall out at the Shadowmoor prerelease long enough to where he swung with 10 guys and Mirrorweaved into Windbrisk Raptor... That was uber silly.
So today, I finally realized that I may be making a mistake in my draft-style of Alara Reborn. A few of us do like to draft it 3x ARB because it does really well... Even if it is not a stand-alone set.
I drafted this and just want to know what I'm doing wrong.
I went 2-2 with this... And I rarely got red mana AT ALL.
I even boarded out a Plains at one point so I could put in a red AND STILL could not get it.
Am I just losing my touch? Or am I just having terrible luck. I mean, sure. I don't get any good rares at all. And a couple weeks ago I drafted 2 Behemoth's Sledge and still went 1-3.
I'm just looking for some sort of feedback. Am I just playing dumb? Or am I actually having bad luck?
I actually drafted almost mono-white. Drafted a couple Stalking Tiger and I did, in-fact, draft Blaze over the Cloak. Red splash for a near sure-fire game winner in limited is not a bad choice.
I try as hard as I can to keep my deck(s) full black-boarder.
I was actually playing extended Wizards for a PTQ and could not find my playset of Mana Leaks from Stronghold... So I went with Rune Snag... Which was actually the better call.:p
I've been trying to get a playset of Tempest Bottle Gnomes but seem to be stuck on 2.
I just traded a full set of 10E Battlefield Forge for an Apocalypse playset of Forges. I have nearly a playset of the original printings of all the pain lands.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is... I use the oldest playset I have available to me.

I'm all for rolling change to get singles. That's how I've been paying for drafts since I've been laid off from my old jobs. lol

If it's so "horrible" how about offering a helping hand and see what would be better?
Would it be better if I dropped off 2 Islands and the 2 Mind Funerals and add 4 land or what?
I drafted this and just want to know what I'm doing wrong.
