They stopped doing seeded packs with BFZ. SOI is the same - you have a chance of getting any mythic rare or rare that's date stamped. And yes, you are allowed to play with your promo.
The first judge conferences of 2015 are on Saturday. As soon as I get my packet, I'll let people know what's in them. Probably not until Saturday evening will we get the cards and they are going to be given out in proportion to the number of talks you attend. Also, exemplar foils have not (apparently) been sent yet because although judges have been recognized, they've not been sent them yet. Of course, those are rumored to be tiered based on the recognition.
Sooo... what was in the packet? I take it you went to the one in PA? I was scheduled for the one in KY and didn't make it - was curious to hear what they ended up getting. (Especially since they were expecting a two day and 11 hour commitment.)
Isn't Entomb an example of why it would NOT happen? Because if Damnation was in modern masters, they would've stashed the judge promo away for a while?
Entomb was slated to be a judge promo and then someone put it in the PDS: Graveborn deck - which caused the judge promo to get yanked for a couple of years and then they released it finally last year. (Like we all didn't notice the value tanked in that time.)
Attended a 2HG prerelease at a different store than I usually attend since my friend wanted to try 2HG. Honestly I really enjoyed it, maybe just because having two pools let us make a pair of really solid decks. Didn't open anything remotely bomb-y though, my promo was Living Lore. Between us we only pulled one Boltwing Marauder (which only ended up on the field once) and two of the uncommon cycle, only one of which actually ended up in the deck. Worked out prety well though, we ended up in first place with 2 wins and a 1-1 draw. The pool wasn't super exciting but I was really happy with how both our decks turned out in the end.
Shame prizes were a bit rubbish. We each got an intro deck for first place, second place was the store owner who was piloting two decks to avoid having to give anyone the bye, not sure what he got. I don't remember seeing anyone else actually get anything at all though, which kinda sucks.
We played nothing but 2HG this weekend ourselves and we had a blast. We got decent pools for 3/4 events we played in but still managed to go 4-0 in every event. Each and every time we played UB control with a splash of white for Pacifisms and GR beats. (The sad part of the story is even though the store pays out 24 packs to 4-0, we still basically opened rubbish. One Sarkan all weekend and no Narsets. )
I did find the 2HG Sealed format enjoyable - I've been burned out on individual sealed since they started the Prerelease boxes - I hate them. I wonder if that's a factor as to why so many people felt like they got unplayable pools (I realize some complain about every prerelease.)
Can anyone explain to me how this printing rules out Damnation in MM2015?
It doesn't fully rule it out. Just makes it a lot less likely. As others mentioned why do a promo of a card that would get a lot of printing in another product. Also from my understanding judges get paid very little or nothing at all. These promos are kind of their payment. They would risk upsetting the judges by printing giving them a promo that is going to go down in value soon due to reprinting in another product.
Yeah - tell me abut Entomb. Ugh. Entomb is an example of why it could still happen - the promo guys and the product line guys aren't always telling each other what they are up to. (I do agree that it's unlikely though.)
I'd give the entire product a 6/10. Modifying Kiora and playing the decks against other duel decks might be a good idea. Just make sure you don't play the decks against one another. Eslpeth will win about 75% of the time.
Yeah - this review was spot on.
We played about 10 games tonight - swapping the decks after 5 games. The win rate was 9 out of 10. Unless the Elspeth player just gets a terrible hand - Kiora simply cannot deal with the white weenie horde. Even casting Whelming Wave and Aetherize, you simply don't ever get ahead with the Sea Monsters - and no one was lucky enough to get Kiora out and ever stabilize enough to ever use her ultimate. She basically gets mowed down in the next swing the Elspeth player makes. The Kiora deck would have been loads better with a smaller island walker of some sort (Bull Hippo or Zodiac Horse would have been cute) and spreading seas. Accumulated Knowledge is cute and all but it just felt like you were digging for stuff that wasn't there in the deck anyway.
Im not upset about not getting a promo rabble I had 2 and traded them away for a playset lol. In your own words you proved the difference between the stores we go to. At mine its one promo no matter how many you buy and after release day the store keeps the rest and resells all of them.
Sadly Wizards guidelines are really "limit one per customer" but as the store judge and a really good customer who spends a lot, I get a little more leeway. My LGS never moves enough full boxes to give them all away for the actual promotion though, so he's not cheating anyone out of them if they were to buy a box. Its a shame to hear your LGS does it - if they're not handing the out like they should, it doesn't hurt to report them to WotC. At the very least they'll receive a polite reminder of the procedures for the promos. Sometimes, that's all a store needs to straighten up their act.

You can check what you ordered here if the site wasn't getting DDOSed. https://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/OrderStatus.htm
They must have a lot more of these this year - I didn't get mine til 11:41.
Try it and see...

I'm surprised they went with Temporal Manipulation and not Capture of Jingzhou - though I like the new art. Hope these are new Judge Promos!!!
Yeah, they've been saying that since they boned everyone over back in August. I'll believe it when I have mine in my hands.
