Dwarves, I'm sold. Yup, it was that easy.

And a sidenote for anyone that has played Shadowrun, dwarf riggers are now a thing in Magic.

Legion of Bolas, I am excited for the block that is based around the two super teams warring over multiple planes.

I have to agree, while I do not hate the whole Jacetus league or Gideon yelling, "Walkers ASSEMBLE!" I do miss those lone wolf kinda characters. I would love to see maybe a R/B/W walker that is just a hero/assassin for hire. He's a super skilled sword fighter and has heard the countless legends of Gideon and how he is nigh indestructible (aka keyword). This guy seeks Gideon out for the sole purpose to challenge him. He doesn't care what's going on he just wants to beat the greatest shiny beacon. Think Predator/Deathstroke kinda deal going on. Hunts for the purpose to proving to himself that he can best them. Ensue crazy rivalry that eventually leads up to a team up (my assumption would be that Bolas manipulates him and when he figures it out he gets a bit peeved and does the whole, "Let's do this bro-fist" with Gideon and punches an elder dragon).

A rawr kinda female walker, very much like a female hulk. R/G, like Sarhkan and Gideon her +1-2 ability to to turn into a big O'smashy creature. While I like most of the female planeswalkers I'd like to meet one that is either a solid powerhouse like Wonder Woman or a fountain of anger and growth, aka Red She-Hulk style. I think with the loss of Elspeth there is a bit of a vacuum for melee badassery from the female walkers.

I love when people claim the storyline is going to kill magic. You realize that about 80% of the players could care less what happens with the story as long as they get a fun and dynamic limited and cards for their decks. Since the rise of the planeswalkers as the main characters this game's storyline has quickly become a super hero comic (literally introduced a character in a comic book).

I think people need to stop freaking out over a card game's story line. They do a pretty awesome job in my opinion. Was the death of Koz and Ulg bad? No, have you read a justice league comic book in the last seventy years? It is so easy to recon their death. Go with the old, a single cell remains and starts to regenerate. Particles from both were left over and bind to the plane, going deep to the core, regenerate and merge together to form KOZIMOG!

The story is fine to me. I got an epic struggle feel and big old alliance bringing down the hurt to crazy powerful baddies. Jace is Batman with mind powers, Gideon is Superman (because he's indestructible and all Lawful Good), Nissa is pretty female Swamp Thing, Chandra is Starfire, and Kiora is Aquaman.

Now what do I want from the story? I want a block for the Legion of Bolas. Focuses on all the baddy walkers getting together and forming their own gatewatch. ALL THE COMIC TROUPES!

Randomly popped into my head because it would be an interesting way that an "artifact" construction kinda plane (maybe Chandra's home plane) would protect their mana from hungry Eldrazi trying to snack on all their lands.

I do not think we will see it in Innistrad, but I am really starting to think that the Raven Man is going to be the main BBG in Shadows so that would leave Emmy to show up in a future set to nom nom nom a plane. The mechanic just seems like it would be a good "counter" thematically to stop the eldrazi without the Justice Avengers of Planeswalkers.

A warring tribal intensive set like Lorwyn et al. or Onslaught. Merfolks, goblins, humans, zombies, elves warring for domination. Story could be that the ruling elementals of all colors suddenly disappeared and the populace is fighting for power. Then players can go online, choose a side and accumulate points. Whichever tribe wins gets rewarded somehow or another. This would make things way more interesting. They did this with RTR and man was that an utter fail since it didn't add anything.

    NO OTHER RACES.

And then they could focus on true color flavor with allied and enemy elements that may mix. Innistrad kinda had that flavor until they messed up the humans/werewolves.

Implement symmetry correctly and similarly add key elements of tribalism:
    - lords
    - avatars
    - oracles
    - heralds
    - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 CMCs
    - tribal sorceries that require participation
    - messengers - reveal a <non-self-tribe> creature and obtain either A, B, C or D effect depending on what you revealed.

Finally, whichever color wins, they make a community card in that color and whoever was part of it can vote.

I really like that idea. They could very easily just have alternative art commissioned for the five "warlords" that show up in the second set. The tribe that wins gets their lord's full alt art as the next set prerelease or release. It should be shown that when there are fun activities at prereleases they sell a hell of a lot more cards.

Give me an underdark themed setting or any setting where we can give some love to the dwarves.

I too would love to see dwarves come back (and in an age of magic where there isn't 80% bulk). All the fun creatures that they have the rights to because WotC owns DnD. It would be very cool to see drow. A tribe of elves that are only black (maybe a little green here and there). Mindflayers would make a great base for blue. Myconids (return of FUNGUS!) for green. Dwarves are red. White could be deep gnomes maybe? There isn't much "white" in the underdark haha.

Kaladesh - Steampunk sort-of-India-inspired setting would be awesome.

I too think that would be a very cool idea. An Indian theme has not really come up a whole lot and would be cool to see more Elephants (Loxodons) and Rhox's show up in a set.

Just wanted to start a discussion (I'm sure it has been done before) about any kind of theme you would like to see show up in a future plane. I would like to stay away from places that we have already been in the game and focus on a culture or theme that you would like to see for the first time.

Egyptian block - The egyptian pantheon has always been one of my favorite. I would like to see a plane that is very desolate (maybe they survived the Eldrazi and the plane is slowly restoring itself?). Color would be very important but generic mana costs would be large in a lot of cards. The theme could be the rebirth of the plane or reawakening of mana. I am just spitballing but I think the mythology has a lot to give and would make a great set. A lot of room for undead, insects, snakes (asps everywhere!), humans, aven (bird), and it would be neat to see maybe Nissa or Tamiyo to uncover how to reawaken the world (It would be like Sherlock, Tamiyo is Sherlock and Nissa is Watson). Influence from other middle eastern cultures would be nice to help fill out creatures and spells.

Norse block - We did get a little bit of the barbarian feel in Coldsnap, but I would like to see a plane that is basically the fields of Valhalla. Tons of legendary warriors, angels (valkyres) overseeing the battlefields, fighting against the unending hoard of evil (new big bad, demons, giants, whatever). They are holding against them so they cannot escape into the multiverse and spread death everywhere. Again there is a lot of great mythology here that could build an amazing set with a very epic feel. I am a bit of a Thor fan so obviously I would really really enjoy seeing this show up. I do believe there was a plane in planechase that kinda suggested a eternal war plane. Of course the planeswalkers can be the main characters again because someone starts tipping the balance on the bad guy side (Bolas or new spark baddie) so the Gatewatch as to Assemble.

I have some other ideas, but I'd love to see what you guys think would be fun to explore as well.

I hope we do not see a Jace card but rather we see a Tamiyo card. If I recall correctly, Nahiri is actually likely since she and Sorin (who is basically a given), had some sort of falling out and Sorin is purposefully going to Innistrad in part to find her since Ugin has been found.

I think that Nahiri will probably get a card because Ugin, Nahiri, and Sorin imprisoned the Eldrazi. If Sorin is fighting one of them on Innistrad I can see him calling upon his old friend.

I really do not want to see another Jace card. I am so tired of that guy. I hope he is just doing a lot of "councelling" the main characters to the set so he'll be featured in a few cards. To the mention of Ajani showing up, I kinda think that may happen with all the angels and white power over death that is on the plane. He might be there trying to figure out how he can get Elspeth back from Hades (already having set the whole shatter belief into motion on Theros).

Outside of that I really do not care who shows up as long as Jace doesn't get a card (I'm just tired of him being the central character in so many of the plot lines. He is just a Mary Sue it is just annoying.

  • posted a message on How are you able to play standard right now.
I just recently started to play again so I'm rebuilding my collection. I do plan on playing Modern more than Standard once I assemble a better pool of cards, but for the time being my local meta is not horrible. It has been said before but people really seem to be brewing right now. Trying to hate on the established tier 1 and just mix things up a bit because none of the BfZ cards are not being used.

FNM is a great place to experiment and I believe that is how a lot of people are currently treating their environments.

All that said, I look forward to the future state of Standard as this is not the best time I have had in the format, but nowhere near the least (I'm looking at you CAWblade *shudder*).

    Quote from 13055 »
If you choose to target both Zada and the token (for some reason) then Zada is not the only target of the spell and she will not trigger. If you only target her, then the spell is copied, with all its modes copied (so only 1 target per copy) and you redirect each copy to a viable target.

I think you might be missing that Zada reads "...spell that targets ONLY Zada..."

I did misread it, thank you.

I feel like it would do well in an aggro landfall deck. If more of the spell lands have any decent +attack abilities I could see these to be very useful (currently they could be used to (sift lands, first strike and trample, recycle, vigilance, or freeze. I'd guess they might be seen in some RUG, Jund, or Naya midrange. I do not think they should be written off, but right now they do not have, a home without the rest of Gate.

I actually really like the idea of being able to recycle creatures with some form of cantrip effect. Could be a nice foundation to a new form of Jund (aka crazy good card advantage).

I understand that the Zada, Hedron Grinder 's ability is only triggered from a cast spell. My question is if Coordinated Assault is the copied spell do you still pick two targets for every copy?

    Example:

Creatures in play are Zada, Hedron Grinder and two goblin tokens. Coordinated Assault targets Zada and a token. The total targets would be six correct?

Alright, thank you gentlemen (and maybe ladies). That is what I thought, but I just wanted to make sure outside of experience and play testing if there was a decent way to just jump onto a half-decent mana base.

  • posted a message on A proper mana-base
I was wondering if anyone could lead me to an article or two on constructing a proper mana-base. I understand the concept of certain combinations of mana production is required to be able to cast spell X by the turn intended, but I am unaware of the physical formula that is used to do the math.

This is a simple question coming from a decent casual player that is trying to get his bearings a bit before attempting more competitive formats.

I know I'm spamming the board a bit, but I just got back into Magic since Scars and I'm a little rusty.

Ajani's Chosen's ability will trigger from either Heliod, God of the Sun or Hopeful Eidolon. My question is with the interaction of bestow. Bestow creatures are not considered auras unless their bestow cost is paid correct?
