We had a 6-man draft at buddies place. I took it down 3-0 with B/R semi bloodthirst, semi-spirit, semi-elemental brew. Too often I see people on here bicker over archetypes. I successfully mixed 3 to get a nice little agro deck with a little card advantage.
I'm in the process of making a simple White/Green/Blue Landfall deck, mostly focusing on harrows/sac lands in conjunction with some cheap common Landfall homies.
Are there any old cards that pop off with Landfall? I have a feeling there's a plethora of them, I just haven't been able to come up with much juice.
Well, all in all, it seems like you and your friends don't ante with anything considered valuable.
Not true... we all play with some power rares, I've won/lost Garruks, Chandras, Braingaesers, Birds of Paradise, Commands, Defence of the Hearts, Phantom Nishobas, Wrath of Gods, Thoughtseize... my one friend has lost 3 3rd edition dual lands over the last year. Often you play 10 games and don't win anything good at all, though.
It seems like not only would you have to have that 60 card deck with you, you'd also have to have quite a few replacements too when you duel through the course of a night.
True that. New and old decks get tossed right into ante. Good decks win and keep being played. ****** decks get dissasembled. Usually we make decks around 65 cards, so when the inevitable loss happens it's still legal. We also don't really give a **** if your deck is 60 or 58 cards.
No. I play for fun. I don't have fun if my one of my favorite cards is at risk of being lost.
Yea, but think how much fun the other dude is having
It works great for vintage format, at any rate. And besides, it's nice to lighten up and realize that while individual cards may come and go, the game itself is always fun. But I'll stop extolling the virtues for now, don't mean to sound like a wad.
So alright, correct me if I'm way off base, but hasn't Magic had 'Mythic' rares for years already? When I first got into Magic in 3rd, there were Rares I had never even heard of or seen, despite opening countless packs, and seeing all of my friends packs. I always attributed this to certain Rares being 'rarer' than others. I recall reading things related to this in a Magic magazine back in the nineties.
Have I imagined all this? I find it hard to believe that, if indeed this was happening, it was by accident.
Either way, it seems everyone is blowing this all way out of proportion. If someone had $25 for an expensive playset, won't they have $35/40 for a Mythic playset? Cry me a river.
1. Most of these major changes appear to be directly aimed at recruiting new players. What type of marketing campaign will accompany the changes, to let new players know about it? It's all and good to have hardcore players debate the changes on forums months before they happen, but what is the use if no one else knows about it?
2. Will the price of booster packs remain, despite the (admittedly marginal) drop in value due to the inclusion of a basic land?
I don't want to pay to play online... but I do love to draft, and waiting until the next one in real-life is weak. Is there any quality programs that allow people to come together and have a booster draft? Or even just a program where I can draft against AI?
She's at 1 life,
She has 0 cards in deck,
No blockers,
And her only card in hand is Vampiric Tutor.
What a fighter!
Ah, Hilary Clinton-Magic humor at it's finest.
Gobama!
Welcome to what every half-way intelligent person realized months ago... Obama will be the nominee. Hopefully he can keep doing what he's doing, and maybe the media will actually cover some of his views and policies, not just his pastors, skin colors, and middle/last names. Wouldn't that be something? Oh right... corporate amerika controls the media... hm...
Seriously, congratulations to the first African-American Presidential Nominee. As a leftist Canadian, I hope he can overcome.
Does anyone know any? I've always been very curious what the whole process is. I've read you just have to submit a portfolio and Wizards chooses a slew of new artists for each set...
It would be just unreal to play a game and see a card you made. But then again, I am a huge nerd.
Have any artists been doing it since the start? Any good websites about the artists?
I've been encouraging my friend to send in his work... maybe they give out some cool promo material or free cards too.
I play with a group of about 7 friends, I've never dueled for ante with strangers... I'd imagine it could get a little ugly. There are always some healthy rule debates, but things are always settled civily.
To clarify, I play that basic land do not count, and each player has one 'no' on the first draw.
I have about 23 decks and run them all. We set up six/twelve decks and randomly roll for which one, so you get a wide range of decks... playing one cheap ante deck would be dumb, and no fun. We still play with the banned cards (including the old ante ones).
And for every time it's your Shivan and his Giant Growth, the next time he has a Phantom Nishoba and you have an Unsummon. Once you start playing, it all goes around and comes around.
I am glad they took it out officially but because it would turn a lot of people off, but for mature player's I think it's great.
Spirits
3 Nameless Inversion,
1 Plauged Rusalka
2 Scuttling Death
1 Thief of Hope
Bloodthirsty elements:
1 Vampire Outcast
1 Duskhunter Bat
1 Blood Ogre
1 Gut Shot
1 Gorehorn Minotaurs
Elementals
1 Sickle Ripper
1 Incandescent Soulstroke
1 Ghostly Changeling (Spirit payoff too)
1 Soulbright Flamekin
1 Spitebellows
Various
1 Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder
1 Burst Lightning
1 Fiery Fall
1 Wrap in Flames
1 Vampire Lacerator
1 Wrecking Ball
1 Copper Carapace
Without getting any real bombs (Endrek was great a force for sure) or lightning bolts, Ashenmoor Gouger etc. still pulled off a nice little deck.
23 Cards, 17 Land.
Are there any old cards that pop off with Landfall? I have a feeling there's a plethora of them, I just haven't been able to come up with much juice.
Any input is much appreciated,
cheers
Likewise for Act of Treason, Grab the Reins, Word of Seizing and Mark of Mutiny?
Cheers

Thanks for the info.

2/3 of my first topics in the wrong forum... oops

What the hell is the 5 color variant??
